  1. Thanks for the link but the two codes on my print-out don't seem to appear in the list :(
  2. My 2003 Cayenne Turbo has just started giving me messages on the dash for PSM and Air Suspension and having read the codes got these: 1425 Pressure sensor (brakes) 1316 PSM Control Module What do these two actually mean as the air suspension seems to work perfectly going up and down on the switch without a problem? Thanks Pontypool
  3. Sorry to open this thread up again but I have got a similar sounding noise from my turbo and I just wanted to see if the sympoms are exactly the same. I get: - Chirping noise from front of engine bay somewhere, but hard to pin exact location (but think it is from around turbos) - Only on start-up idle, disappears once under way - Stopping after 1/2 a mile and at idle the chirping is still there - After three or four miles the chirping on idle stops completely. What am I potentially looking at?
  4. Three months ago I had the engine out after a rattle developed and had new IMS bearing, crankshaft bearings, chain tensioners, water pump and air/oil seperator and for the last 3,000 miles everything has been fine. Had the oil changed 1,000 miles after the engine work was done as recomended so I am now mystified what could be cuasing a new rattle. No "check engine light", no drop in oil pressure, no loss of performance just a rattle from the left-hand side of the engine. What is over that side to check out? ETA... ominously when i lifted the lid it actually sounds like exactly the same noise in the same place as before on the right-hand side of the engne compartment and very internal!
  5. It would be helpful if you tell us what country car we are talking about. The phone options/service varies from country to country. Sorry, it is a UK car. Having been through all the codes in the bookelt and referenced that site it seems I don't have the phone module afer all On a seperate note what is the best iol to use in these? In my 996 Porsche reccomend Mobil 1, but every specialist I have used always puts in Castrol, is it the same with this big turbo?
  6. Just purhcased a 2003 Cayenne turbo and the only thing I can't figure out is if the phone module is broken or simply not fitted to our new car. What option code should i look for on the sticker to know whether I have it or not? Did they fit all cars with the SIM tray irrespecitve of whether it would actually do anyhting? Thanks
  7. I replaced the engine compartment temp sensor with a brand new one from Porsche and makes no difference, the light still start flashing on exactly 93 degrees (for example when sitting in bad traffic) , but the coolant remains on MAX and the coolant temperature is not doing anything out of the ordinary - the car is not over-heating. Next thing to change is the coolant level sensor, but where is it and is it a simple DIY?
  8. Has anyone got diagram/photos/instructions for how to change the coolant level sensor? Is this a simple DIY (for someone with small hands)? Thanks
  9. Latest update... the engine is out and stripped and IMS all fine! Seems that one of the cylinder bores was scored/scrathed by something that had gotten into the cylinder (no I don't know how either) and this was cuasing the rattle and why the engine was still seeming to run ok. New bore liner being sorted, IMS bearing being uprated anyway while the engine is out and also new Crankshaft bearing to be on the safe side and new water pump. Hopefully should be all back together at the end of this week and "bobs your (expensve) uncle" back on the road with a fully sorted engine with somepreventative maintentance done as well.
  10. Think the noise heard was from the IMS bearing starting to fail and may have been stopped just before a big, terminal failure - but will know for sure soon!
  11. Update: the car is having the engine dropped today and then stripped for investigation and so should be able to report on the findings in the next couple of days, but inital diagnosis is IMS failure... :(
  12. Just started it up again and the CEL light hasn;t come on but the rattle is there at idle and is coming from right-hand side of engine bay - is that the water pump on the front right driven off the belt? If so rattle could be coming from in there...but would that have triggered the CEL briefly?
  13. Driving to work this morning in some very heavy traffic the Check Engine Light came on and then as my heart was stopping it went off again about 15 seconds later. There wasn't a chance to pull-over and turn the car off where I was and so very gently proceeded the last 500 yard to my office car park. There at idle the car sounded fine but under light throttle there was a bit of a rattle, but under heavier throttle it went away. Not started it again yet, but anyone got any theories?
  14. I had the old wet carpet symptom and so at the weekend took the wheel off and cleared out a load of black gunk from the exit valve - all good. Removed the rear speakers and pulled out more crud that was in the trays. However, on the near-side one of the short tubes that goes feeds the collection tray is not connected to anything at the top. It's mighty tight in that space and I can't tell by feel or from looking at the diagrams previously posted where does the top of this tube connect to? I guess that without the tube being attached the water won't even get into my nice clean collection trays down to the perfectly working valve and so keep the carpets wet! ---- Edited to add: Does no one know what the top of the drain tubes attahces to?
  15. Having watched the guages like a hawk: 1. Engine compartment fan cuts-in when coolant temps is exactly 75 degrees C 2. Red light starts flashing slowly when coolant reaches exactly 93 degrees C 3. Coolant temp will not continue to rise on dial or digital read-out 4. Coolant still sitting on MAX level 5. Front rads not blocked with leaves 6. Engine Compartment temp sensor in the grommet correctlly. Is there a way to tell if the engine compartment temp sensor is faulty without PIWIS?
  16. Thanks Loren, but would partially blocked front rads contribute to a dodgy engine compartment fan? I left it idling for a very long time after a spirited drive and the temp crept up to 103 then the rad fans cut in as they should and the temp dropped back down. Seems to me that the coolant temp is reading ok but something esle is amiss...
  17. ETA Hello - long time lurker but first post! This site was invaluable sorting out my roof's low hydraulic fluid problem out but something new has cropped up.... I have searched all the relevant threads alredy but nothing seems to quite fit the problem on my 2000 C2 cab tip (UK car): 1. After driving for about 10 minutes the engine compartment fan comes on (at around 75 degrees C according to the digital read out) 2. After a few more minutes the temp guage starts flashing slowly 3. If i turn the car off and on again and continue my journey the flashing light waits another 5 or 10 mins before coming on again (the fan reamins on) I am 100% topped up with coolant and it is not losing/lost any at all The sensor is not hanging down by the exhaust but is sitting in its slot between the air intakes The fan shuts down a few minutes after parking The coolant temp sits dead upright on the dial and the digital read out gives between 87 - 93 depending on traffic conditions - not over heating at all When I disconnnect the plug on the fan to stop it working the light still waits 10 or 15 mins before it starts slowly flashing. What could be going wrong here????
