  1. Ferris Bueller's Day Off sorry I *thought* I was being funny...
  2. Unknown cause at the moment My 1997 porsche boxster is making this awful squeeking noise from the left side around the airbox area, can't seem to figure it out, any ideas?
  3. I agree, but also unknown sounds could be identified by more knowledgeable people, and tagged as such. My particular sound - Dirty Starter - only happens about once a month, during cold starts in the morning, so I could never get my mechanic to actually hear it, until after about 20 tries I finally caught it on tape.
  4. I thought it would be nice to start a database of sounds that can be used to identify problems. Here is my contribution Dirty Starter: http://bigspaceship1.com/986-startup.aif
  5. would be nice to have a database of funky sounds, perhaps I'll start a topic...
  6. just curious if it sounded like this: http://bigspaceship1...986-startup.aif
  7. Would they be visible readily if the car was jacked up 5 feet? He tightened everything he could see.
  8. I'm having a problem with my 2001 US Boxster w/tip In high-torque situations, I am hearing a thump from somewhere behind me in the center. I.E flooring it from a dead start, flooring it from 5th down to 2nd gear. This problem started to occur, I think, soon after I accidently put the car in drive when the car was at about 2-3k rpm - my foot was off the gas, but I did hear it "thump" The sound does not occur flooring it in reverse. Reading over older posts, my guess is the engine mount, but: No thumps turning, nor any shaking at 3-4k rpm. never hard to put it into any gear, nor any problems switching gears at all manually or tip. During my oil change today, i had the mechanic look at all the bolts around the tranny and rear end, and nothing was loose. Does an engine mount failure still make sense? would it be front or rear if the thump doesn't happen in reverse? Thanks for any help
  9. thats exactly what i did, and after about 20 minutes it released....thank god!! it's my main driver... but what would cause that?
  10. My 2001 Tip Boxster wont shift out of park. Engine starts fine, and shift lock button will go down if i hit the brakes. Never had a problem with it earlier...overnight bam. I've also tried to take it out of park with the engine not running...no go.... Any suggestions?
