  1. To use the latest map disk in a 2005 997, you have to update the operating system software. The updates contain an update to the amplifier software, and the early Bose amps aren't compatible. When you run the update on such amps, it turns them into a brick. (Only of use for building a wall.) The part numbers of the two amplifiers affected are 997.645.333.04 and 997.645.333.05.  Amplifier number 997.645.333.06 can be updated, but according to one TSB I have, it has to be updated using a PIWIS tester.  Just something you should be aware of.

     

    Yes, if it ejects the CD magazine, the fuse is good.

If you put the loop in place of the amp (assuming it is faulty), all the messages should go, except for "no sound".  The other systems should start working, albeit you will only have control, but no sound.  At least it would prove a point, without spending £200 on a used amp and finding nothing is wrong.

I think your problem is only with the coding.  The instrument cluster and DME can be coded without any wiring connections.  Make sure the order code is stored in the DME vehicle data first.  Then go back and do a complete control module search before coding the cluster and DME.  I'll PM you the wiring diagram.

  4. This is what the diagnostic manual says, but it isn't very helpful as it doesn't pinpoint the problem.

  5. I find it very strange that there is a tick by the navigation software, and that values are shown, because you don't have the navigation drive installed.  The amp, CDC, and phone modules are from your old PCM2.0 system, so that probably explains the warning triangles.

    I think it would be risky trying to update  those 3 modules, and you won't get any increased functionality.  If it works, then I would be tempted to leave well alone.  Many people experience the warning triangles, without having problems, and just ignore them.  The update disks are all for software 1.0 to 3.0 so I don't think they would work anyway, or might even downgrade the PCM main unit.  I can let you have them, but it would be entirely at your own risk.  PM me your email address if you want them.

  6. I assume you have coded the Gateway to remove Navigation, because you need to do that if you haven't got the DVD navigation drive.  That being the case, I expect that is why the compass feature isn't working.

    What are the "Actual Software" versions (firmware versions) of the units you have installed?  The Actual Software versions will be different from each other anyway.  If it is a Bose amp, and it is working, it would be dangerous to try to update it with the update CDs.  It can brick it.

    If you aren't using the navigation module, then there is little point in updating the system.  You only have to do it to use the latest maps.  I have a set of update CDs, but the update process depends on the software levels of the installed components.  Also note that early PCM units can't be updated to 4.1 anyway - there are hardware differences which prevent it.

  7. Can you just clarify exactly what you have done?  I am reading this assuming that you have removed the old PCM2.0 head unit, and retrofitted a PCM2.1 from a MY2005+ Cayenne, along with retrofitting the DVD navigation drive.  I wouldn't get hung up about trying to change the VIN in the PCM coding - I don't think it would make any difference.  I don't know how intelligent the system is, but your VIN would be out of range anyway.

    I think you need to focus on making sure all the modules are coded correctly.  The components of PCM2.1 are coded in the vehicle's Gateway module, and I am not sure that the Gateway module of your 2004 car would have the coding options for a 2005 PCM.

  8. The genuine PSE uses a relay connected to the grey/pink speed wire on the jumper plug on Loren's image. I don't see why you couldn't fit the PSE relay, and wire it up to your system. I don't think you would be able to adjust the cutout speed range though.

They only made 600 996 Turbo S Coupes (worldwide) so it is always going to be more desirable than a standard Turbo, which (in the UK at least) means they are already commanding a sizeable premium.  I've seen them advertised for £80,000 (currently over $100,000) for a reasonably low mileage manual car.  Seems like the only way it is going is up.

  10. You can fit it without removing the steering wheel. Turn the wheel 90° each way to get to the screws behind the wheel on the column cover.  The others are easy to get at.

    Yes, you can. The OBC stalk is the only one you can remove. It is held on with two Allen screws, and will screw straight on to yours.

  12. Did triple locking work?  If it didn't, I think you might have a problem with the driver's door lock.  When you turn the key in the lock it physically locks the driver's side.  At the same time it operates a microswitch, which sends a signal to the alarm unit to lock the passenger side.  If the switch is broken it won't arm the system or lock the passenger side.

    Yes, you will need to go to the dealer or a good independent Porsche specialist to program a new key head.
