  1. While it is a bit tough to give an exact cause without actually seeing this, the 4 point bearings on the mainshaft and pinion shaft are known to go out on these from time to time. We have done quite a few of these and while they are not the most difficult things to work they do require a 45 ton press to press the gear clusters apart. Not really a job for someone who has never done this before. I realize that you post is a bit older, but if you are still having issues with this feel free to contact me and I will be happy to talk to you in more detail about this problem.   2. While I could be mistaken here on this I would have to say that the easy answer to your question here is NO there is no upgrade to the center differential available. I believe that because of the electronics involved with the AWD system that to change this out would be more costly then would be worth it. Just my thoughts on this. Erik Johnson
