  1. Hi. 'got a 2000 C2. brake lines look fine and the car has always been well maintained. When I bleed the fluid (~every 2 years) it's always pretty clean.

  3. wow, that's some analysis. I wonder how/what tool they used to check pin 54 of the DME.
  4. May be orthogonal but I think a valid question is: what's so special about the 2002+, in tank filter that makes it last "forever" as opposed to the 2000 one that's inline and "must" be replaced?
  5. Thx everyone for the ideas. This was the problem: when I removed the fuel sender to replace the fuel pump, I saw that the two hoses (from fuel pump to sender) where disconnected from the fuel sender. They were sort of on but not clicked in and very loose. That would cause all the symptoms I've been having. I replaced the fuel pump anyway and made sure the hoses clicked in. car started right up. BTW: I had to make a special tool (equivalent to VW 3217 or whatever) to remove the plastic fuel sender retaining ring. I don't know how the heck you folks get it off without that tool. Banging it on the edges didn't work for me.
  6. oh, sorry, no, not that connector, the one just to the upper left of it. The thingy is inline with one of the fuel hoses.
  7. Hi. In the upper left corner of this pic. It seems to be some sort of valve? I think it even has a electrical connection on it? fuel pressure sensor maybe?
  8. still troubleshooting this. I was wondering of the fuel sender (AKA fuel level sender, above the fuel pump) could cause this. Is that thing just a passthru or are there actually valves in there that have been known to fail?
  9. well I may be facing a similar problem with my 2000 C2. I'm about to replace the fuel pump (for the first time) and hopefully that's it for me, we'll see. I re-read this thread and did not see a mention of the fuel filter being replaced? On my 2000 it's a separate item under the car. on yours it may be in the gas tank? Either way, could be something to look at.
  10. Was the fuel pressure ever checked? If so, was it low when the prob was happening?
  11. cool idea. thx very much. i tried and same result though. i doubt the fuel pressure regulator is bad since I just replaced it during this T-shoot cause I though it was stuck closed.
  12. Thx. Doesn't seem to easy to chk that. But I did check one thing: If I remove the fuel pump relay, put a voltmeter on pins 85/86, and turn the key, I do get constant 12 volts. Which I guess means the DME is trying to start the engine (run the fuel pump).
  13. If I run the fuel pump for a few seconds and remove the fuel return line from the fuel rail: not a drop comes out. I don't have a pressure tester but it would have to have read zero if I connected it there. My current theory is that the fuel pump runs but doesn't really produce enough pressure. I guess I'll order the $300.00 fuel pump and see how it goes.
  14. High level view of the problem is that the car cranks but doesn't start. No fault codes in Durametric. Fuel pump pumps fuel but I have not checked pressure yet. Any help is appreciated as I'm pretty desperate at this point.
  15. replaced the fuel pressure regulator and it still won't start. I'll check the fuel return line tomorrow but now I have this theory: the fuel has failed in such a way that it still pumps fuel when there's no resistance, but cannot produce pressure in a closed system. The evidence was that it doesn't have enough pressure to pass thru the fuel regulator. Maybe I'll pick up a fuel pressure kit from Sears tomorrow. But could that be it?
  16. Hi. The car is model year 2000. I don't have a noid, I'm just using a regular volt meter. I remove the injector fuse under the dash, connect the voltmeter leads to it, crank the engine and see ~7 or 8 volts.
  17. I wonder if the ~7 - 8 volts is normal since it oscillates and the voltmeter (I don't have an oscilloscope) is averaging it out? but is it supposed to oscillate like that if the engine is not running?

  19. it's one of the relays in the rear parcel shelf. I'm troubleshooting a problem and I'm going thru all potential relays and I don't know what the purpose of that one is.
  20. Hi. I have the workshop manuals and I thought is was complete, but when I go to the wiring diagram section (I'm looking for the one for my 2000 C2 Tip), it's missing.
  21. Hi. I'm troubleshooting a problem where my 2000 C2 Tip cranks but won't start. Fuel pump pumps fuel, so I started thinking maybe something to do with the fuel injectors. If I remove the 30 Amp fuse number 2 from row C under dash (fuel injectors and oxygen sensors) then turn the key, the voltmeter I attach to the fuel injector fuse leads say ~7 to 8 volts (battery gives 12). Is that something to look into.
  22. ordered a new fuel pressure regulator. I'll report back in a few days when it arrives.
  23. Ah, if I remove the fuel pressure regulator, and run the fuel pump, fuel does come out of the hole that the fuel pressure reg was sitting in. Maybe the fuel pressure regulator is bad cause it seems like it's a kind of valve that sits in the path. I would like to T-shoot that part to verify. I have a hand vacuum pump and I can give it vacuum but when I do I don't see or hear anything special.
