Hi 70Sixter,
Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking on/off for about a year and learning about 996s. My previous Porsche experience is with a 911SC, now with a 3.6 conversion,gears,etc

It reminds me of the MAF sensor problem that i had in my toyotas. Sometimes it would throw a code and sometimes it wouldn't.Those things are a pain when they start to go. Once i replaced mine, it was fine. I always try the least expensive things first. Clean the MAF sensor and make sure you don't use an oiled filter.

About a year ago I bought a 2005 C4S from a friend. The car was in excellent condition,13.5K miles,serviced at regular intervals,etc. I now have about 20K miles and other than a leaking RMS, now fixed, I've had no problems.
The car runs well,idles quietly and smoothly but it was sort of uninspiring under acceleration. I've done many Italian tune-ups, put injector cleaner in the tank, even used a tankful or two of 104 oct with only temporary improvement and then back to a sort of linear acceleration going thru the gears.Not much fun at all !!
Everything changed yest. When I got in the car after work, I accelerated as always but the car leapt forward and kept revving and picking up speed as if I had another 75HP, the way I always expected it to be !!! Today it has been a pleasure to drive it, stab the throttle and instantly feel the rush of speed.
Any theories to explain the sudden change?

Winter Driving
in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)

I drive my '05 C4S all winter, except when the snow is really deep, as mentioned by others,more than 6", as you can get high centered on the ruts/mounds.
I have Pirelli SnowSport Winter tires , 225/40 and 265/35 on 18" rims and they have great traction on snow and adequate grip on ice. Just remember to slow down!.
The temp range most of winter is -20 to high 20 low 30s
I have two winters on them and I'm happy so far.
