  1. I am missing the DME completley. What are the immobilizer codes, I was under the inpression that I did need the cat numbers and type of car. What is a good option besides new. The DME and the driveblock (alarm) computer must be matched or the car will not run. If you don't have the DME you need at a minimum the immobilizer code from your car to program into the new dme so the car will run. If you buy a used dme you will need the immobilizer and dme codes from the dme you purchase in order to program it to match your car so it will all work. This programming can be done with the PST2 or the new PIWIS tool. Todd
  2. Yes the boxster and 996 models that use the same DME can be remapped to run the other vehicle, as long as you have the DME and immobilizer codes from the donor dme and the vehicle in which it is to be installed. Todd
  3. I have had the clutch interlock shorted closed on my car since I purchased it 2 years ago with no problems at all IMHO, if you can't remember to depress the clutch when you start the car, you probably shouldn't be driving a Porsche. Todd
  4. Kanin, The 3.2 should be the same as the 2.5 with the addition of the line from the intake to the resonance valve solenoid, then from the solenoid to the valve. Essentially off one plenum you have a line running to the fuel press. regulator from the port on the rubber connecting sleeve. The line from the sleeve on the other side of the plenum goes to a 'T' fitting, this has the one way valve on it to keep constant vacuum regardless of throttle position (black side towards the intake manifold), the lines from this go to the vacuum reservoir (black canister) and the vacuum solenoid valve for the air injection You add a line to the 'T' and run it to the vacuum solenoid (the horizontal fitting), the vertical fitting has a line attached and is run the the vacuum valve. If you are using the 2.5L throttle body the only line to it is the hose to the tank vent valve. Since I believe you are using the 2.5L fuel rails and throttle body, I believe this should be correct.   5. The times I have removed them was for engine swaps, so yes the exhaust was removed. I think it is much easier to drop the exhaust than mess with removing the control arms, but that is just my opinion. Todd
  6. The axle can be removed without taking apart the control arms, just remove the outer nut and the inner bolts. Todd
  7. Kanin, I am keeping the 3.4 and putting it in a '98 Boxster I just purchased so unfortunately it is not available for sale.   8. You won't need to change the fuel pump, it works fine with the 3.4 and 3.6. If you have the stock 3.2 DME harness I would be interested in purchasing it from you. Todd

Both are 12V solenoids, I believe the 4 way function on the timing solenoid is controlled by the duty cycle of the voltage to the valve which causes it to hold position and thus hold the timing at its current stage. The valve lift solenoid is the same as the tiiming, so while it could be controlled on or off, it is also variable viat the duty cycle. Todd
  10. Pecivil, I am using supersprint headers, Dansk cats and a supersprint exhaust. I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with Steve's parts, they are what I was wanting to use but he was having problems with his fabricator at the time I needed the parts. Todd
  11. Kanin, I would not use the 2.5 intake on the 3.2 even if it can be made to fit. Like the 996, I imagine if you use the single cross plenum manifold you will lose significant performance. How are you getting around the egas? Personally if it were me, I would reprogram the brain to the '99 996 program that shares your stock dme, install the 3.2 with a throttle cable throttle body (from your 2.5L or a 3.4L), and run the extra wire from the DME to the solenoid that controls the vacuum to the plenum butterfly like is done on the 3.4 swap. I think this would work fine and save you from dealing with using the 3.2 engine harness, updating to egas and using the 3.2 brain. I have never done this, but it would be the approach i would take to stick a 3.2 in pre-2.7L boxster. Todd
  12. Kanin, Yes I am in the US. I don't think it would make sense to ship it. Actually I am looking at picking up another Boxster to swap the 3.4 into and then sell the converted car. Easier than shipping the motor and a good way for someone to get a nice converted car at a reasonable cost. Todd
  13. I am using the stock gearbox and stock flywheel. You could also use a lightweight version. If you are looking for a 3.4 the one I took out of my car is available. Todd
  14. Just a little update on the swap. Where the car with the 3.4 was fast, this thing is now scary fast. The torque difference between the 3.4 and the 3.6 is incredible. Don't know if it has to do with the variocam plus and the greater variation in cam timng, larger valves and lift but I am quite happy with the swap. The only 'issue' is that due to the greater cam timing variation in the variocam plus vs variocam, (40 degrees vs 25) the check engine light is on since the 3.4 program in the dme thinks there is a problem. Hopefully I can work with someone to reprogram the DME to get rid of this issue. It makes some nice noises at full tilt, just better make sure it is pointed straight ahead when you push on the fun pedal. Todd
  15. The 'crack' was only a fraction of a mm deep, it was ground down to remove stress risers that may allow the crack to propagate so it should be just fine. Todd
  16. A little info on my motor I found out. It is a factory reman motor, installed in Dec 2005. The car it was installed in backed over a parking curb and according to the dealer had an oil leak caused by a crack in the case, they wouldn't fix it so it was replaced, paid for by insurance. The engine has 2600 miles on it. Below shows the 'crack' in the case. and the location of the galley boss on the case Yep that is is, it is only in the oil galley plug casting, surface crack, the leak was probably because the oil galley plug (gold coloured plug with screw in it in the second photo) was knocked loose, a new oil galley plug and a little JB weld to fill the crack just in case and it is as good as new.   18. Spent Thurs-Sat swapping motors. The motor is in and it runs, at least well enough to get me back and forth to work. Just need to get some parts to see if I can control the cam timing and valve lift to get better driveability. It is definately quick, or maybe it just seems that way since Friday and Saturday I was driving my '84 944 around. Didn't take any pictures, physically the swap is the same as the 3.4 one. Had to lengthen some of the original wires on the Boxster harness and I reused the 3.4 injectors and fuel rails so I don't have to upgrade the fuel system to the non-return system used on the later cars. Also used the 3.4 throttle body so I can keep the cable setup and not worry about e-gas. I need to thank Loren for providing me the 3.6L engine wiring pdf on Thursday night, that was essential. Todd
  19. Thanks I think the info I am looking for is in the pdf you posted. I understand how variocam works,(there is a great description in Paul Frere's 'Porsche 911 Story'). I just want to know when the solenoid is activated by the DME, does the cam timing advance or retard. Same with the valve lift. I am assuming that the timing is late and the valve lift low, when the solenoids are not activated (since this is the condition at idle and low loads and a peg holds the cam rotor in the late timing until oil pressure builds), but I would like some conformation of this fact.   21. Does anyone know when the solenoid valves for the cam timing and cam profile (lift) are actuated on Variocam plus? Is the solenoid activated by the DME to provide late or early timing? I am pretty sure that the solenoid for valve lift is actuated to change from the low to high lift cam profle but again I am not certain. Thanks Todd
  22. I really liked everything about the 3.4. Nothing not too like, car dyno'd at 280hp at the wheels, runs just like a factory car with no issues. If I can't get the 3.6 to integrate in a similar fashion I will probably put the 3.4 back in and sell the 3.6. Or maybe sell the '99 with the 3.4 and pick up a post 2002S to stick the 3.6 in, that would probably make the most sense. Todd
  23. Lowering the engine has nothing to do with fitting the stock exhaust or not. The exhust mounts to the engine and tranny, not to the body. I ran my 3.4 with the stock 2.5 exhaust until the proper exhaust arrived. There is really no reason to not lower the motor and install the proper 996 intake. Ruf does it, that is good enough for me. The boxster intakes bolt directly to the heads, the 996 manifold bolts to the aluminum intake stacks, that is why the bolt patterns on the plastic portions of the two intakes are different so I am pretty sure you could bolt an 'S' intake to the 996 head after removing the aluminum stacks. I believe the X51 intake is the same height since the pictures I have seen of the ruf intallation uses spacers when installing that intake as well.
  24. Tool Pants, I hope that is a photoshop job. Mee, I assume you are referring to John at Vitesse Racing, who says he has a way to control the variocam+ in the pre Motronic 7.X.X cars. i think I have an easier (cheaper) way of doing it and I will let you know how it works out. Without having a donor car to transfer all the required pieces from to update to the later CAN bus electronics, I think the cost would be quite prohibative to get the later DME7.8 electronics to work in the earlier chassis. But this is always a possibility. You are only dropping the motor ~1", the lowering at the front is balanced by different mounts at the rear. If you don't like lowering it, then use a Boxster S manifold. I chose the 3.6 rather than the 3.8 simply because I got a great deal on the motor. If it works out, it will be no problem to drop in a 3.8 later when I can find one at a good price. Todd
