  1. When it rains... does the alternator get wet?

Do other parts of the engine compartment get wet?

I would certainly also check the 8 plug socket on the engine (current distribution) - since all the current distribution goes through there.

Where is this socket located and which pins are used for testing for alt output?

Try following the wires back from the alternator.

As you can see it is out of the question, do the alt wires run through the big round main eng connector?

  2. No, not off hand but will try to get a hold of one. thanks

When you replace brake pads there is no need to open the Hydraulic system. If this is the case and you never had issue before then maybe its just coincidence and the Master cylinder is bypassing. If you did open up the hydraulic system then you will need a brake pressure bleeder and a TEXA Scan tool or the factory scan tool to do the Abs bleed Procedure.

Not sure how the brakes where before doing the brake job, when I got the car it was the first thing I did during my inspection, so did not have a chance to drive it. The pads and fluid needed to be replaced. Not sure if my car has ABS, but do not think so, but how can I check.
  3. I need to replace my Clutch Master Cylinder, I don't see a DIY on that one and the old workshop manual only shows how to replace the Clutch Slave Cylinder. Please Help.

If you are takling about the one on the tranny it's easy just remove hydraulic line then the 2 bolts holding it on the tranny (from back of car it will be 2 Oclock position right side) pull out then replace new one and reconnect every thing and rebleed by following instruction in the brake bleeding DIY section. Good Luck

  4. Thanks Loren,

Pedal pressure old fashion (open valve on down pedal and closed on pedal up then pump up and redo) with assistant pumping brake and clear bottle and clear bleed line. Bleeding both first outside then inside valves per wheel. Would I see bubbles in master cylinder fill resvoir if I was leaking back in master cyl? I could have gotten the pads dirty or slightly oiley during cleaning and installation could this cause the pedal to go down? When my master cyl went out on other cars if I was holding the brake down I could feel the pedal leak to the foor but in this case it just seems to go along way down before any braking action occurs.

  5. Man do not get it I Installed new pads from europe with ceramic in them forget the name but after 25 miles or so they seem spongy and go almost to the floor so I reblead and retest same thing. Well took wheels off again and there is allot of black buildup looks like dust so I cleaned rotors (did not remove pads) installed new fluid (Gold) and rebled brakes with no leaks noticed and they pump up but when I drive they are still soft and want to go to floor. The fluid level never drops. I am rebleeding using the brake pedal with assistant which always worked on my other cars. At a loss anyone?

  6. Follow up:

Well it's not the tranny, but the CV Joints inner and outer both sides. They had hardley any grease and when removing the boots found water coming out out of them so I cleaned repacked and reinstalled. Ran through 2-3 gears and no noise so far, but it is still on jacks. The bad thng is it took all day and man was it messy and when I finished I forget to get hand cleaner or should I say body cleaner. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

  7. Ok wheels off and up on stands at idle first gear video's. But still cannot isolate, not sure if it starts in tranny and works to wheel through shaft or maybe CV joints which I know nothing about. It does not seem like pads they are not grabbing and there is not any clicking vibration when I touch the calipers. The noise is more pronounced in passenger wheel. ??

  8. Strange problem I have 2000 996 and got some used seat belts (front) But they will not extend. They seemed to be locked and both are the same way. There are no electrical connections to them. I was just trying them without mounting them first and also looked for some kind of way to unlock including giving them a quick pull and release ,but no joy. What's up anyone?
