  1. Thanks, Jeff. Now we'll be ready when they release Trivial Pursuit Porsche Edition! :D
  2. I've always wondered what these 2 things are--totally useless, but probably good trivia: There's an elongated oval "blank" to the left of the ignition (just below the vent), and one on the passenger side, just below the vent. Are these for optional switches? On the passenger side, just below the vent (I suppose where the ignition would go on RHD cars), there's a round piece with perforations. Could it be the a/c sensor?
  3. I ran 2 wires from the spoiler switch to the PSM switch to get lighting power. The wire colors are a bit different depending on year. Mine is an '04 Carrera, and here's how I did it. The spoiler switch has 2 unused male connectors. You need to buy some wire and female connectors that will fit the male connectors on the back of the spoiler switch (I got them at Radio Shack). Cut 2 lengths of wire, strip both ends of each, crimp on 1 female connector to one end of each, and connect the female connectors to the 2 outside unused male connectors on the spoiler switch. One is the LED power and the other the ground. Remove the plug from the back of the PSM switch and insert the stripped ends of the 2 wires, one into the ground wire (blue & grey w/ brown cross stripes) plug, and one into the common/power wire (blue & red) plug. Then plug back in the PSM connector, with the 2 stripped wires held in place. Test it works before fully snugging up and putting back together. If it doesn't work (or the PSM LED indicator light is always on), reverse the wires and try again. On the back of the PSM switch, there are 4 vertical male tabs across the top, and one horizontal male tab at the bottom. Looking at the PSM switch from behind, the ground wire is the far right top vertical tab, and the common/power wire is the horizontal tab at the bottom.
  4. The bag that mine is in has a label with a 3 number code starting with 0, and below it is "IDxxxxx" the x's being 5 numbers. Your dealer can look up your code in their system.
  5. Now I understand why Porsche charges 3 times as much for their short shifter. It's the fashionable black paint :D (the B&M blue is so yesterday, as my 9 year old daughter would say :D )...and...the top is flat...probably saved a gram or 2 of weight...
  6. As my son likes to point out, everything that says Porsche on it is very expensive... :cursing:
  7. I had the full install done on my last Carrera, and believe me when I tell you that it caused a lot of interior noise!!! :censored: :cursing:
  8. The bypass valves in the PSE mufflers are controlled by electronics and a vacuum system, so I don't think there's any elegant way to move the valves from their normal (sport mode) position. Perhaps you can crawl under the car and manually move the valves and hold them in place with wire or something.
  9. Got it installed. Used Rob in WA's recommendation for hanging it using the sun visor clip, inserting it between the headliner support and the windshield--very sturdy, and you don't have the suction cup marks on the windshield, so you can't see it unless you're almost right up against the windshield. I had it installed to the right of the rear view mirror, since I couldn't get the driver's visor further forward than 90 degrees from the roof when it was on the left side of the mirror. With the concealed display mounted on top of the steering wheel housing, there's no need to have it right above your head. I ended up having it installed by Erick at Custom Exotica in Mountain View (I remember Paulsha having it done there). They charged me $50, which was too good to pass up. Great install, no interior trim panels removed (except, of course, fuse panel surround, where they spliced into the power). Highly recommended.
  10. I'm going to hardwire the Valentine 1 and the remote display in my Carrera coupe today, and am wondering if anybody who had done the install on a coupe has pictures or can describe how to hide the wire down the a-pillar and get it under the dash, and run it to the center console for power. Do you have to remove the a-pillar cover (and, if so, how)? I've seen a few DIY sites for the install, but they gloss over this part of the install. Any other tips also appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  11. A few weeks after getting my CD changer installed, I noticed a malfunction. While listening to CDs 2 - 6, if I press the button to select CD 1, nothing happens. If I then press the button for another CD, other than CD 1 or the one I'm listening to, it goes to that CD. Then I can select CD 1 and it works fine. Turn off the car and the same malfunction happens. So I took it in to the dealer today. They swapped out the radio, same problem. Swapped out the CD changer, same problem. Went to a new car on the lot, same problem. Swapped out the radio in the car on the lot, same problem. They said they believe it's a problem with the radio (CDR-23) and reported it to Porsche and will let me know what Porsche says. Anybody else have this problem with a CDR-23 in a '03 or '04 with the MOST bus?
  12. Yes--that piece was in the bag with the fibre harness. In the picture I took of it, it's on the left side, at around 9:00.
  13. Those fibre optic harnesses are like 8 headed monsters! When I got mine, I couldn't believe how complicated it looked, and it was clear to me what instructions to use: 1. pick up telephone 2. dial local Porsche dealer 3. make installation appointment 4. bend over and take it like a man when they hand you the bill 5. save the inner handy man for another project... :D All kidding aside, I think this is one of those examples where technological advances make a DIY pretty much impossible. But if anybody can do it...it's you guys! :notworthy: FYI--I paid $350 to have mine installed.
  14. How could I forget the MOST bus--after the CD changer install!!
  15. I tried that--it would work on my '02 to turn the chime off earlier. Now it just gets rid of the message in the display, but the chime continues. If anybody knows of a hack, please let us know!
  16. I had a '02 and now a '04 Carrera, and there are very few noticeable differences (aside from the 10th digit of the vin!), but as always I'm sure Porsche made many unnoticed refinements. Seeing one in a parking lot, though, you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference visually. The radio is now digital, and I think the Bose system sounds a little better overall (they added "audiopilot"), and the bass is not overly thumpy like the '02. The overall ride quality, and amount of rattles, seems much improved, but who knows if that's really the case. If you get sport exhaust, there's now a dash switch (new in '03). A lot of very small refinements, like the armrest covers now have little bumpers to rest on--I imagine to address a rattling issue. My son noticed there's a florescent emergency handle in the trunk now, and the trunk clicks close with much less effort now. This time I got Pilot Sports (which weren't available in '02), which I like a lot better than the Contis. On the negative side (aside from the '03 price increase--'04 prices stayed flat), the seatbelt chime stays on as long as the car is moving, until you put the belt on, whereas in my '02, it went out after 10 seconds or so. Dealer said it can't be changed...
  17. Success! Got my car back today with the CD changer installed. I have a '04 C2 coupe with Bose, and bought the following parts: 996 622 705 00 fibre optic harness 000 044 900 72 CD changer retrofit kit (contains changer, cartridge, brackets, electrical harness, bolts, etc.) The dealer charged $350 (just under 3 hours labor) to install. The cost of parts can vary by more than 50%, so my advice is to shop around. The local dealer told me that the CD changer kit is back ordered and Porsche can't give them an ETA, so their guess is it's at least a month out, so you'll need to find a dealer with one in stock. There are around 10 different fibre optic harnesses, depending on configuration (Bose or not, C2 vs. C4, etc.) so make sure the parts guy gets you the correct one. Total cost installed was around $1,100. Obviously cheaper to order it from factory, but I bought my car off the lot. Thanks for all your assistance, and I'm happy to answer any questions anyone may have.
  18. My dealer used Wurth Rubber Care Gel Stick on the window seals in my last car, and it worked great. It also works great on the outside of the window seals on either side of the car, which tend to develop water spots. Makes them black again, and lasts several washings.
  19. That was my first "mod" (if you can stretch the term...) on my new Carrera. I had it on my previous Carrera, originally because the CD holder rattled like crazy, and after having the extra storage space for a cell phone, garage door opener, sunglasses, etc., I was glad the CD holder rattled. :D
  20. Can a '04 Carrera with the Bose system get the Porsche CD changer installed if it didn't come with one from the factory? Are the cars prewired for the CD changer? Is this a big deal/expense?
