  1. all good! it's a real tight fit but after removing the two coolant pipe brackets and spreading the pipes apart the fuel filter slides out where the pipes widen. it sure will be a lot easier next time.
  2. i'm in the process of replacing the fuel filter on my2000 996 cab. i removed both plastic brackets that hold the aluminum coolant pipes so that i can spread them apart. it looks like i also need to remove the bracket that holds the fuel filter in place so i can spread the pipes even further. is there any other tricks? will the filter slip through the space where i've marked with an red X? thanks for the help.
  3. plugging it while i make the switch is the way to go. thanks for the info.
  4. I had the water pump replaced a year ago but just noticed the hose encircled in red (attached photo) doesn't look very good. I'm planning on replacing it as soon as the part arrives. How much coolant should i prepare to lose when I remove the hose? Thanks in advance.
  5. does anyone have an on board computer stalk cap in gloss black that they like to sell? i've been told porsche doesn't make the gloss black stalk cap any longer. thanks to loren and a few other members i just did the obc 4th stalk upgrade and it works! thanks.
  6. loren, bill you guys rock. i can't tell you how much i appreciate the help. thanks very much. **** i love this place!
  7. loren- there are four connectors on the back of the instrument cluster do you know the part number for the white connector? i have a my00 996 cab and i need to replace the piece that slips over the connector that holds in the wires. i kinda screwed up a obc computer hack and i'm desperately trying to fix my mistake. evidently, i didn't push the wires into the connector properly and i'm not getting a good connection and the 4th stalk isn't changing the computer. the connector cover is so tight i can't slide it off. once i get the new part i'll slice the cover and re-seat the wires to the obc. thanks very much. -steve
  8. loren- i really appreciate the quick responses! happy new year.
  9. i just looked closely at the oil indicator and i discovered it's working it's just not illuminated. i must have either a bulb out or a bad connection. regarding the 4th stalk not working- all my connections are correct right?...does it seem like my ground is bad?
  10. thanks loren. i might have pinched the blue wire trying to seat #2 into #20. i attached the ground to one of the ground connectors behind the instrument cluster. does that sound right? i noticed that someone said that the ground should go to an electronic ground but i wasn't sure what that meant.
  11. i have a my00 996 cab. i've been planning this for weeks, reading everything i could find on the obc 4th stalk hack. i ordered all the parts from sunset and i really thought i was good to go. so today i performed the 4 stalk obc hack and now the oil level indicator doesn't illuminate and when i cycle through using the 4th stalk nothing happens. all the wiring for the obc hack uses the white connector, does anyone know if the oil level indicator uses the white connector as well. i'm wondering if i did something when i was inserting the molex connectors. i ran #2 to #20, #3 to #21, #4 to #22, #5 to #25 and ground to one of the ground connectors located behind the instrument panel. i'd really appreciate any insight into what i've done wrong. i'm really bummed. thanks.
  12. i'm planning on doing the obc 4th stalk install on my 2000 996 cab. the computer has been turned on and i have all the parts. i'd feel more comfortable having as much detail on the install as possible so i went to order the Werks DVD 2: "On Board Computer & Activation" and learned that it's no longer available for sale. is there anyone out there that's willing to sell their copy or lend it to me? thanks very much.
  13. guys- i finally answered my boyhood dreams. this spring i picked up a sweet, 2000, triple black, 996 cab. i love this car and i hate getting out of it. this site was a huge help before i bought and it's a constant resource that i couldn't do without. the answers here have allowed me to fix the ignition switch, make the perfect oil change and clean out the cab drains. now, i'd like to turn on the obc and add the fouth stalk. i also know that this topic has been covered completely on this site. but after reviewing all the info i'm confused about one thing. if i pickup an OEM steering column switch assembly (with all four stalks) does it simply plug into where the other switch assembly was connected or do i need to make a wiring harness to make it work. i'm just not clear on the connection process when i add the complete four stalk assembly. thanks.
