  1. Could be a main battery issue -- when was the last time you replaced?

    Folks,

I'd been noticing this for the past few days - happens intermittently but when I turn off the ignition and open the door - the sound that typically comes from when you drive without your seat belt, comes on but stays constant. The sound goes off when the door is closed. It is almost like when the ignition is on (and not the engine) and a door is opened.

    Have you seen this before?

    Any insights are much appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch!

  2. This site has a lot of info on Cayenne brake jobs: Start:

Could someone direct me to a DIY for changing the pads front/rear on a 04CS? I really can't bring myself to pay someone $1000 bucks for that (which is what my local dealer wants). I know it can't be that hard... I would also like to know materials/parts needed (sensors?) and what pads you all recommend. (oem or aftermarket)

    thanks for the help!

  3. Hi -- I get your point. I was thinking you meant a person could easily switch from iPod/other to CD changer via PCM as they drove along. Yes indeed, you can bypass the Denison (or Mobridge) for service and other reasons, the hassle is you need to do the switching on the device (and usually cycle the ignition off and on) and the device is mounted under the dash or in a place that's inaccessible while driving. But the Denison has the accessory mode selector which is really cool. You could place that selector in an easy to reach position.

Let us know how the Denison works. I like the USB port a lot -- as you say, music on USB thumb drives is nice.

<You must set the mode selector switchto service mode (bypass, CD Changer)position otherwise the servicecomputer may detect an unknowndevice in the fibre optic system whichcan lead to errors reported.>

As to switching between the Denison and the CD changer everything I've read about Porsche MOST systems is you need to eliminate the CD changer section of the loop to use an iPod but you can research more and determine.

If you install please let us know how it works. It would be great to keep the CD changer active and have an active iPod inerface.

According to both Dension and BumperPlugs - on the Cayenne you can keep the changer and have the iPod interface. The Gateway 500 has a switch assembly (looks like it also has audio phone plug inputs of some type) - with a simple switch on it. Flipping the switch takes the Gateway out of the MOST loop, and apparently allows the headunit to then recognize the CD changer again (and it's also done if you take it in for service so the MOST net doesn't show an unknown device.)

There are some specific switch positions on the GW51M02 shown for the PCM with CD-Changer enabled. If you go to Dension's website - they have a PDF of the installation sheet that shows most of this. I think BumperPlugs has a more detailed installation instructions for a Cayenne.

Total cost with a Dension BlueToof interface from BumperPlugs is $500 for the Gateway and BlueToof - and it comes with an iPod cable, and it looks like a standard USB extension cable (for those of us who haven't moved to iPods yet - but have lots of MP3 USB sticks and players kicking around.) According to the writeup on it - it can even use the PCM 2.1 to display the folder structure on a memory stick - name a folder as an album name (and it appears then as the CD name) and name the songs inside the folder (they show as the track names.)

Looks like a good solution.. have to think of what I have kicking around to sell so SWMBO won't notice I bought it.. Anyone need any BMW M3 winter rims and tires? Don't have the M3 anymore (gotta get off my butt and take some pics and sell these puppies.. they're just taking up space in the garage.)

  4. The Cartronice item (Bluetooth interface) I note above is agnostic to any system -- it simply plugs into any iPod/iPhone cable. it's a $79 item and well worth it. As I note, you can move it from cars to portable speakers, etc. As it happens I use it on a Denison system in my VW. Visit the Cartronics site and hopefully it will make sense to what I posted earlier.

As to switching between the Denison and the CD changer everything I've read about Porsche MOST systems is you need to eliminate the CD changer section of the loop to use an iPod but you can research more and determine.

The Cartronics (which appears to be a kit with a Mobrige interface) is almost twice the price of the Dension..

I found this statement on Dension's website: http://www.dension.c...its/gateway-500 "Gateway 500 emulates a CD changer, but has a switch which allows you to swap between the Gateway and the changer."

According to BumperPlugs - who is a dealer - this works on a Cayenne. Sounds also like the Dension will use a USB memory stick as a source, which the Mobridge apparently dosen't. Since I have lots of CD's I haven't bothered moving to MPEG format - and lots of CD cartridges - this sounds like a better (and cheaper) solution for me.

  5. Comments below: >

And if you have a CPO as your extended warranty take your vehicle into a Porsche dealer ASAP. Much of this should be covered.

My Cayenne S has a couple of strange things going on I was hoping someone can help me out with. Mileage is right at 84 k

    1. Occasionally when I pull to a stop or slow down almost completely stopped ( like rolling through a stop sign , I hear a single "thump" that seems to come from underneath the front passanger seats. It's not all the time and is always a single thump... any ideas? something loose down there perhaps? what should I check?

    > Could be many issues -- drive shaft, suspension, etc. Any codes surfacing?

2 My key FOB's have BOTH stopped working. but one "actual key" will start the car, my other key will unlock it but will not start the car and gives a message on the screen that I can't recall exactly (needs programmed? expensive?) Also, for some reason when I unlock the car, my alarm goes off IMMEDIATELY, instead of the usual 20-30 seconds if I don't insert the key. not sure why this changed all of a sudden.

    > Replace your main vehicle battery if it's time (of both if you have two). Also change the batteries on your key fobs. Really easy to do.

    3. My instrument cluster LCD has been acting strange for a while... image kinda shakes and some of the data normally present is not legible. ( this comes and goes ) and I notice it more during the day. Every thing is nice and bright in the evening/night

    > You can see this discussed in the forums -- replacing your main battery may help. Or you need to replace the cluster LCD.

    4. i have the crazy servo thing in my dash... sometimes it sounds like something is alive in there. Is there a way to fix that? I do have some extended warranty but not sure if it would be covered. in conjuntion, the driver and passenger have seperat temp controls on the ac but the "fan speed" seems to be linked together ( seems like when I bought the car each person had control of fan speed) any way to "un-link" them?

    > Your manual has this all detailed -- how to go from driver control of all climate settings to passenger and driver having separate controls. The sound could be the AC servo motors. Search the forum to read all about it.

5 finally, need some direction on brake pads... is there a good resource for pads ( low dust ) that you can recommend?

    > For sure search the forums -- lots of discussion around brake pads and dust reduction and efficacy, etc.

I'll stop there for now, thanks for any help!

    John

  6. Your entire multiple CD player will be out of the MOST [fiber] loop and no longer part of PCM -- the iPod emulates the multiple CD player. The Denison manual covers it and you can read a ton of info on this forum. Search "iPod."

You can place a Bluetooth adapter on the male end of any iPod cable connected to your vehicle be it Denison or Mobridge, etc. It's a very cool and elegant solution. I just got one (Cartronics Anystream) and it works beautifully. I'm surprised these are not used more often. They work with any Bluetooth device -- phones, iPods, etc.

This is what I got: http://www.cartronics.com/POM.html

I use it on in my VW GTI ('03) and on a stand-alone speaker system at home. I plug in the Anystream device (it's about the size of a pack of matches) to any iPod jack/cable and stream Bluetooth audio from my iPod Touch. It's so basic -- and the Anystream can move around with you. It leverages the Bluetooth headphone pairing protocol. Audio quality is excellent. I use it to stream audio from my iPad to the car stereo when my 3-year-old is watching video on the iPad.

Never had a problem -- the Anystream is powered via the iPod cable.

Folks, is it the Dension 500 that allows you to keep the CD changer function (just loosing disk 6?) and I seem to recall there being a bluetoof adaptor available for it also.

    TIA!

  7. Be sure to read and search this forum.

    1. The big items are coolant pipes and drive shafts. You'll consume a lot of gas and tires but you know that if you're interested in Cayenne's. Replace your battery regularly. Use a CTEK if you store the vehicle.

    2. Mobridge, et al. Lots of iPod and Bluetooth solutions detailed in the forums. But to answer your Q, yes an iPhone can generally work just as an iPod does -- depending on device generation, firmware, etc. iPod and iPhone cables are interchangeable. (Or simply stream music via Bluetooth...)

    3. Exhaust upgrades can be problematic (like anything) -- aesthetics are subjective. I happen to like the stock set-up.

    4. The red "S" is being discussed in another chat -- you'll see the order info. It's a $50 part and yes, it's peel and stick.

    Enjoy your Cayenne.

Been a long time p-car nut (currently own a 996 TT) and its time to trade in the Grand Cherokee SUV. Hence, I want to look at expanding p-car family.

Found a nice, low mileage CPO 2010 Cayenne S and had a few newbie questions:

    1) anything I should be on the look out for? It does come with a extended P-car warranty as I'm buying from a dealer...but I will ask anyway!

    2) there looks to be a ipod/aux/usb option inside the center console- will this allow me to hook up my iphone too? what type of cable do I need?

    3) it's got the stock exhaust package- which I just dont like. I really like the quad tip look, do I have to get a new valance if I want the quad exahaust tips? I will likely need to to with a TechArt or Fabspeed exhaust system right?? any other suggestions?

    4) totally lame question: I would like to add the red "S", is this simply a peel off the current "S" and peel and stick job the new "S"? Should I be able to get a red "S" from Sunset?

I'll stop there. Thanks in advance to any and all insights you care to share!! Cheers and enjoy the ride!!

  8. They sell just the S -- it looks like the same S from the GTS. It's $.03 more than the GTS emblem and the S is probably a bigger size.

Here's the link to just the S: http://www.suncoastp...e=9552S_Emblems

Somewhat annoying is Suncoast does not list part numbers or dimensions.

    Here's the part: http://www.suncoastp...e=9552S_Emblems

Call them (or Sunset Imports who give a discount to Renntech.org members) and they can give you the color spec.

On a related topic, can someone tell me the correct number/source for red 'S' for a 2010 Cayenne S?

Is the one listed at Suncoast, the right version of the 'S'? looks a lot like the Carerra 4S......

  9. As Loren and wvicary note, change your battery. Also, be sure to become a contributing member -- you can download useful files.

Below is from the 2004 owner's manual (I have an '04 Cayenne S) -- it describes how to get your vehicle out of park if it's stuck in park.

Let us know how it works out.

I was driving around this week and kept getting an intermittant message "Four Wheel Drive System is Faulty"....but only occasionally. Then the other day it came on again, on my way home. I parked up and left the car. On return, I opened the car and got a "STEERING FAULT" message on the dashboard and everything was locked. I cannot start the ignition, although the seats etc still work, the steering wheel is locked and the transmission is stuck in PARK. I tried jumping the car, but this did not help....please help somebody.....the Porsche dealership cannot send anyone for another 2 weeks....!!!!

  10. Attached is the first page of headlight changing instructions from the the '04 manual. The rest you can read in your manual or downlaod it from this site.

Congratulations on your purchase -- you'll enjoy your Cayenne. And be sure to become a contributing member here on Renntech.org. It's the best $25 you can spend on your Cayenne.

Assuming you have HID headlights -- it may be as basic as a failing bulb. If so they are amazing easy to repalce -- the owner's manual spells it out. (You can download the maual here on Renntech.org.)

can any one tell me why my head light will burn white and then one day go to pink and then back to white

    thanks

  11. LED bulbs, compared to stock, even if the exact same form-factor/size will disrupt overall electric function simply based on their differing load (less) requirements compared to stock incandescent. Often the case is you can replace a few bulbs with no consequences but one you get to a certain number of bulbs some electrical issues surface. If your switch is OK, and not damaged, try putting stock bulbs back everywhere you replaced them and then try LEDs only in the center console (after you put stock bulbs back in the center to confirm the console is not damaged). I remember reading about the requirement for LED bulb power adaptors when upgrading -- much like putting HID headlights in non HID vehicles requires more then a basic bulb/housing swap.

Let us know when you sort it out and post some pics -- it must be a very sleek look.

I have changed almost all bulbs to white led inside. Looks nice, more updated and not (as I feared) tacky.. However am experiencing odd behavior as well with the center light console becoming in-operational after the ligts turn themselves off if doors remain open too long..The only way I found to get the light back is to close car (like you were going home) and re-open..

Can it be so that the LEDs disrupts the function somehow?

  12. Very cool. Let us know how the installation goes and please take some pics, if possible, of the process.

Well, I went ahead and ordered one. Was told there were only 2 left from their initial batch.

I figure it will be a lot easier and quicker to do the repair with this product then to remove the drive shaft assembly.

If my bearing goes out, then I will just replace the bearing at a later time as I can schedule the repair (bearing failure can be predicted/heard whereas this failure was pretty instantaneous).

The cost is high but the ease of repair is worth it to me.

FYI - 2 year warranty and was told it has been tested for over 12 months on a cayenne TT that was extensively driven prior to offering the product.

  13. That looks like a great idea -- thanks for posting. Not sure how much is hype though. The same company sells a cheaper support:

    http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/113549%20Porsche%20Cayenne%20Driveshaft%20Flex%20Disc%20Guibo.aspx

Bottom line, if it works, it makes a lot of sense. The red-colored pieces must be a shock polymer of some sort to allow some torque/flex in the shaft. How long until those polymers deteriorate?

So my drive shaft bearing damper gave out (2006 TTS 65K miles) and in looking for repair options I came across this brand new product:

    http://www.vertexaut...%20Support.aspx

    http://www.youtube.c...u/0/kP5IQxph_yY

So, I am looking at doing this repair instead of replacing the entire drive shaft assembly.

    Has anyone used this yet??

    Thanks

    2GOFAST

  14. Me too -- I just ordered one as well. My set-up will be to tow a twelve foot trailer with a diesel powered generator, diesel tank and and a 100 gallon tank of distilled water. I'll run the power and vapor lines from the trailer under my Cayenne with a pivot assembly and up into the engine bay from below. Really easy and basic set-up. Should just take an hour to configure and soon I'll get 783 MPG!

Anyway, this is all somewhat insane .

    Popular Mechanics debunks it here.

    >

Water-Powered Cars: Hydrogen Electrolyzer Mod Can't Up MPGs

After batting down the hype over start-ups and DIY'ers claiming they could run a car on water, Popular Mechanics senior automotive editor installs a hand-built HHO kit—only to find he was right the first time. Can bad chemistry keep the myth of the water car alive? More heavy testing in the PM garage will tell.

    >

I've placed my order for two of the units to install on my Cayenne.

  15. Be sure to become a contributing member here on Renntech.org -- you'll be able to access TSB's and other instructions. Regarding your specific questions be sure to search the forum, this is a well covered topic.

    Welcome and enjoy your Cayenne.

Hello, I have a 2005 Cayenne Turbo and my navigation will not load up( says starting navigation, but never starts). I bought a 2008 DVD for the navigation but it will not work either as I have the older version 2.0 and I need the 3.0 or newer. My friend is a mechanic at the dealer and he said I need the entire software upload. Does anyone out there have this for cheaper then the $500 plus from the dealer? I sure would appreciate any help you all can offer. Let me know. please. thank you!

  16. Do you have a picture?

when I changed the air filters on my 2008 Cayenne GTS I noticed an extra intake hole on top of each air box, about 3X5.5 inches with a thin piece of material stretched across.

I can't imagine much air flow around this intake since its within the engine bay and protected by the plastic covers. but it is there and must serve a purpose.

has anyone else seen this on their Cayenne? I didn't see these extra intake holes while viewing pics of S or Turbo models.

any guesses on function? does the GTS need a little more air than the S model so they cut a hole on top of the air box?

I've called a couple dealerships and nobody knows or cares.

  17. Not sure where you are in Sweden but the GPS constellation has some gaps -- not total gaps but sections which do not have the same level of satellites per sq/km then others. It's odd though -- most NATO or NATO-proximity countries have enough GPS coverage for basic functions (time/space location). Other constellations are in development but for you, Galileo will not be operational until 2013 and your vehicle (stock) will not interact with Galileo when it launches in 2013. The Russian Federation has something similar to US GPS as does China -- you can research those options. But, all this said, you simply may have a problem with your GPS receiver. When was the last time your vehicle has it's battery replaced?

    >

Galileo will be a global network of at least 22 satellites providing precise timing and location information to users on the ground and in the air. Its development will cost billions of euros and it will become operational by the end of 2013. The investment makes Galileo one of the biggest space projects initiated in Europe.

    >

Yes, gave it a few days and now its upp and running smoothly. Strange thing though...

Nevermind previous post, I got the same problem again...

As soon as I traveled about 150 km from home, I turned on the gps (after those kms) and it gave me wrong position again. It was only connecting to 1-2 satellites.

When i was back home it found the right position again.

So what? Do I have to turn on the gps as soon as i travel with the car, so it stays in position?? Or is it something wrong now...

  18. Give it a few days/driving cycles and it probably will lock in your proper position and you'll be set. I changed my battery and the same thing occured. Now it's fine.

So i bought a Cayenne 2005 from a car dealer. When we tried the car, the navigation system was working great, showing the right position of the car on the map.

Three days later, when getting the car from the dealer, the gps is showing the wrong position of the car, about 120 km away from the actual position.

Was thinking about a factory reset, but I want to know if someone has some other clues to this problem?

  19. Mudman2 make a very important point -- never tow with auto engaged. Use manual shifting and always start in 1 also never use 6.

Thanks for the battery change heads-up.

I have the upgraded rouched leather seats in my 06 TT and in following the instructions in my owners manual managed to break some plastic trim behind the front seat. I have an eleborate piece of plastic trim that slips and locks over the seat rails only accessible from the rear seat compartment. When I raised the front seat it cracked and pushed off the trim. Had I known about it, it would have just taken a small amount of force to pull them off (one on each side). Oh well, I will know next time.

Another problem I had was in removing one of the fron seat mounting bolts. The Tork 50 was a loose fit because the inside of the bolt had been stripped by a previous owner or hamfisted mechanic. I eventually got it off by hammering an old 5/8 socket over it.

Apart from that we had a great day on Saturday. I towed my boat to the gulf and was very pleasantly surprised at its towing capability. She couldnt be coaxed into 6th without going into manual despite the flat terrain but acceleration was great and the car rode like a champ. Now if I can only find a way to get more than 9 mpg....

    PKN

  20. I have an '04 S -- the primary issues are well known (drive shaft, coolant pipes, coils, etc.) and can be resolved. Once resolved these vehicles are fine. Add a few $k to your after-purchse budget and you'll be set. I purchased mine used under CPO and the majority of the issues were resolved or had already been replaced prior to the CPO-certification. Overall a great vehicle. I've added roof rails, clear side lights, replaced the battery, tires and other basic stuff. Mine had all the options I wanted and also what I did not want.

Love the vehicle overall. It sucks a lot of gas and goes through tires but you know what you're getting into so this should not be a surprise. They are amazing handlers, track beautifully through rain and snow and are safe and stable.

But yes, if you have the budget, newer may be better. I happen to prefer the headlight design on the 9PA much more than the 9PA1 and am happy with the purchase.

That's the kind of information I'm looking for, thanks Phil!
