  1. Hi there, there is a small flap on the painted horseshoe that lifts up, part number 996 561 062 02, the actuator that drives it broke, can it be ordered separately? Sorry for the crappy explanation, it's not powered, but spring loaded, it's what actually opens and closes the little flap.
  2. Hi Gyorgy, my seats had just seen way too much ham. A bit saggy they were. The foam swap is easy breazy, the seat cushions come off without any seat frame diassembly and it very easy to replace the foam. I was lucky and found a switch missing the horizontal button for a 25 bucks, good as a new one is 500 and the wreckers want 250 for a used one. The connectors were a bit tricky, you pull a piece out on the side and then they swing out. Made the seats feel like new.
  3. Huge difference, while they were out I used Sonus leather cleaner and conditioner, they are like new. Well worth it.
  4. Yeah I can vouch for that, my buddy put my 996 cab into a guard rail, paid out of his pocket for the fix, was 2g's for one headlight. They are nice though. Fender was only 500 or so, go figure.
  5. Hi there, I just put new seat foam in. Not too bad, $84 a side from Sunset, easy to do, there are white plastic connectors, 2 each per side, right under the front of the seat, just pull the pins out and you can remove the cushions. I did break the pass side seat switch. They disassemble, but you don't have to take them apart to get them removed. Whoops. I broke the plastic switch that controls the bottom, not the electronic switch, the plastic one that goes on the outside. There are four small switches on the inside, they have small springs and a "cup" like thing that the springs go into. I lost one of the cup things. The new switch is around $500, whoops! Any chance on buying the small bits that I need? I was thinking that maybe Audi or some other manufacturer might sell them. Thank you! Joe
  6. I have a buddy that wants to get a 996. Does anyone know which models came with the wide body? Was it only the C4S or did the C2S also have the big hips?
  7. I just did my drivers side headlight with the Sylvania kit. Outstanding results, there is a new headlight on the right and you cannot tell them apart. $24.00 sure beats 2 grand.
  8. I tried that, and agree that my little Fraulein gets upset without proper attention.
  9. I checked out the fuses and they were fine. I found what appears to be an add-on, bunch of wires with semi-ghetto connections. Took the tape off and it looks like 2 additional relays wired in for some reason. The ground had come loose and when I put it back the car started fine. Hmmm, now to figure out what the add-on is, and why it would keep the car from starting.
  10. 2002 996 Cab. Went on a trip and left my car at the airport, was gone 7 days, when I got back it wouldn't start. Everything worked, lights, radio, window etc. Initially I thought it was the battery, but for some reason after monkeying around with the key, it started. Well I went to drive it today and no dice. Everything appears fine, it isn't the battery, turn the key and nothing happens. Could it be the switch? I hate to just swap out parts without really knowing what it is.
  11. with the latest weather (cold and damp) my hopeful response is that as water condensates in the exhaust and cats its blown out as you start it up as water vapor. If it goes away quickly, it would lend more creditability to my suggestion. crossing the fingers. Yeah I'm thinking so also, however it seems it may be AOS also. Great news, I was thinking intermix issue. I love this car. 75K on it, bought it with 40K. My little schnitzle runs just fine.
  12. If you can find an old school car electric outfit, take your alt there and have them put a voltage reg in it. Had it done on mine, 2002 996, cost a hundred bucks.
  13. The past two days a large cloud of white smoke has come out of the exhaust when I start my 2002 996 up in the early morning. We live in Ventura and it has been a bit chilly at night. It had done this a few times in the past, but I attributed it to water in the exhaust from rain or the sprinklers. No sickly sweet smell of antifreeze, antifreeze isn't losing level, no water in oil. Any idea what's going on?
  14. I bought a 2002 996 Cab in March of 2009, it is seal grey with the nice 18" wheels, xenon lights, flared rockers, supple leather, bose. It had 40K on it and I paid $29000. It now has 73K on it and I have replaced the right side window regulator ($220), the voltage regulator ($150), the coolant overflow tank ($125) and the drivers side door latch to fix a microswitch ($100). I have not found the parts to be excessively expensive, have you tried Sunset Porsche? I do the maintenance myself, the plugs are easy if you take the muffler cans off. The coolant tank is easy if you lower the motor. This car is not too bad to work on if you know the tricks, which you can find here. I put Sumitomo tires on it rather than the Pzeros. Cost about 500 for all four. I love this car. I plan on putting the alternate suspension on it, don't know what it's called but it's not the OW30 one. and then I intend to drive the crap out of it.
  15. Hi there, getting ready to replace the clutch in my 2002 996 Cabriolet. It doesn't slip when short shifting, which I use as my benchmark, however if I have a friend in the car and get on it, it slips. Also, I cannot seem to break the rear tires loose. When replacing the clutch is the straight OEM enough? Are there any upgrade options to consider? Maybe GT3 clutch? Also, should I replace the seal while everything is out? And the tranny oil? Thanks!
  16. I have worked on lots of cars through the years and here is what I have experience with my 996. It's a little different, everything has to be put back exactly as it came off and always use Porsche OEM parts when it matters. The Porsche coolant isn't that much if you order it from Sunset Porsche and always use distilled water.
  17. 2002 996 Cab, 6 speed, 68K Put air in the right front tire today after filling up, after I pulled out of the gas station I started getting "MPH limit exceeded" popping up on the dash. Happens when I start moving, goes away at 20 mph or so. Any ideas? thanks!
  18. All fixed, with the door open, fuse did not pop, close door slightly, fuse pops. Took door panel off, jiggled wires, nothing out of the ordinary, put it back together in stages, no fuse pop. All back together, and it is working fine, odd that I didn't find any thing actually wrong. Although I did park it on the curb the other night, I would be upset too.
  19. Hi Loren, looking at the fuse diagram I see that there are other fuses for the locks, windows and alarm. Could I take these fuses out, put C3 back in and then put the others back one at a time and see which cause C3 to blow?
  20. loren, is there a relay map? The relay block has at least a dozen.
  21. Loren, thanks for the reply, the top goes up and down fine, and the windows lower and raise with the top. With this fuse blown the door locks do not work, nor do the interior lights. The alarm seems to work though, at least it beeps. I did just put a new latch on the drivers side, maybe it is the locking mechanism? Alarm beeps when you press the button, and beeps twice when you manually lock the door.
  22. Loren, thanks for the reply, the top goes up and down fine, and the windows lower and raise with the top. With this fuse blown the door locks do not work, nor do the interior lights. The alarm seems to work though, at least it beeps.
  23. 2002 996 Cab, manual Power window fuse is popping, I believe it is C3, 15 amp, pops when new fuse is put in. Just had drivers door panel off, will take a look there first. No water on the carpets. Any suggestions.
