  1. No, I changed the Polybelt to an OEM due to a squeel I'am experiencing on Cold-Startup. This did not help the squeel. It sounds much like starter grine. I did the oil cap test and could not get the squeel w/the cap off, however I put the cap back on and could not get the squeel then. I also changed the air filter, washed the engine, powder coated and rebuilt calipers, installed new rotors and brakepads. Which I am stopping quicker now and it is on these sudden stops that the oil light flashes. It does not occur on slow stops. The oil level is correct now, however when I first changed it I over filled it by 6 or 7 oz. thanks for any advise -michial
  2. Just diy'ed the 75,000 mile oil change on my 2000 Boxster 2.7 and now getting an Oil Pressure fault at idle while hot. It only flashs on for 1/2 second they back off at stoppes. I used Mobil One 0-40 Full Syn. Should I replacing it with 15w-50 and see if that solves the problem or disreguard the light totally? I live in Arizona and it gets very hot here in the summer.
  3. I have a cold squeal as well. If it goes away while the oil cap is removed what is that an indication of?
  4. Thanks Guys! That is a great example of how not to paint a caliper. I will be using the Duplicolor High Temp spray paint.
  5. I have a guards red Boxster and looking to repaint my calipers red. Suncoast Porsche sells a High Performance Caliper paint but it is a brush on and I am thinking brush mark. Should I risk the brush marks or is there a good spray paint for calipers? Also, I am replacing pads and rotors at the same time should I remove the caliper to paint them or is this an un-needed pain? Thanks for any help.
  6. I found the problem! There is a nylon gear in the transmission that cracked. This was not allowing the top to fully open or close. The part number for the transmission is 986.561.180.03. It looks like the gear is not replaceable without replacing the whole transmission. A new one is about $500.00 Can one find a used one anywhere?
  7. Found part of my answer in this post: Boxsternaut Group: Moderators Posts: 2,376 Joined: 19-June 03 From: San Jose Member No.: 4 Wow, very good. CTS, the company that makes the top, should hire you. You are correct that the new style transmission has a microswitch. I pulled one out and it is in my fingers. I guess that is why the lever/microswitch above the top motor was eliminated when the new style transmission went into production. You do need the after running time, the second or so the motor continues to run, when the top is down. This pulls down on the black rods attached to the clamshell so that the clamshell is held tightly to the body. The underside of .clamshell, in turn, has those 5 round rubber discs which clamp down on the canvas. Otherwise you would have rattle city from the top and the clamshell. I thought the run time was controlled by the top relay/control unit and that there is some type of timer in it that allows to motor to run that extra second. Your device stops the power to the motor sooner than normal. Is that what it does? Did you ever try another relay and see if the problem went away? Attached thumbnail(s)
  8. I am experiencing the following symptoms with my top: 1. The open top indicator remains lite all of the time 2. I am having problems get the top to move from a fully open or fully closed position. Once moving it operates normally. I feel it is a micro switch failure, but cannot find the switch. I tried to use ronbonner's "micro switch trouble shooting sequence" (posted under "Boxster Convert Top Won't go up Car on/Brake up. Swith does nothing" 26 May) for my 2000 Boxster and could not find the B pillar micro switch or the compartment lid (motor) micro switch. micro_switch_troubleshooting.pdf
  9. Thanks, I was thinking it was more like a timing belt. My concern was from an experience I had with a 300zx turbo that broke a timing belt at 63,000 miles and it cost me over $4000.
  10. My 2000 Boxster is due it's 60,000 mile service. The dealer is asking $700.00 to do this service and said it requires replacement of the crankshaft poly-rib belt. Is there a place where I can find details on what is required for each service interval? Also, has anyone performed this task? If so how hard is it?
