  1. Car is a 2003 Porsche 996 C4s. I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the Headlight not sitting tightly once tightened? I hit a bump the other night and the driver side headlight went out. Upon inspection I very softly touched the light and if flicked back on. Any ideas? I did some searching and could not find out if anyone had similar issues. It seems like the "bar" that holds the headlight in has slightly worn the plastic on the headlight housing, thus not allowing it stay in the connector, however I just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything. Thanks! :D

  2. Update: The cap does end in 01...Don't know what I am looking at. However, it seems damp on the inside of the cap. What are the symptoms of a bad cap? I have ordered a new one that should be here tomorrow. Thanks!

Usually a bad cap sweats or leaks. Look for residue on the top of the coolant tank.

Thank you Loren. I did noticed some moisture and residue around the threads of the cap. I will update once the new cap is installed and car is driven. Thanks again.

  3. Check the dipstick and oil filler neck for emulsification. This would be a sign that the moisture has made its way into the engine case and thats ungood. If you don't find any have the cooling system pressure tested and observed for leaks. The part number on your expansion tank cap should end in 01. Is that the case?

As of now I see no sign that moisture has made its way to the engine case...I assume this is the whitish look that I have seen pictures of? Also the cap ends in 30 and not 01. Thanks for the quick responses!

    I've seen 00, 01, 02 and 03 part number caps but not a 30. Can you take a pic?

    Loren,

Thanks for the help. I will take a pic tomorrow and post it. Thanks for the help as always...

  5. Currently my car 2003 c4s is using a little coolant. Some background...

    - I have searched the forums and found it could be a tank issue.

    - My cap ends in 30. Is this one that needs replaced?

    - The car runs just a tick over 180 under normal driving, I assume this is normal? Never has gotten out of the middle area, even on a 94 degree day.

    - The level when needing filled is slightly below the min level on the tank and never gets lower than this point.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly apperciated. As stated, the car runs and performs perfectly...no issues. Also, I have no visiable leaks under the car. I have checked it after every drive. Thanks for your help in advance. :D

  6. Update: Took the car to GT Performance and what a great shop! Gennady and his son, Egor, both race and were extremely helpful with my car and had me out in the shop to show me everything on the car. They were extremely accomadating and very helpful with some of the questions that I had. I would recommend them to anyone in the Baltimore area! Thanks for the ideas on where to go.

  7. I just picked up my 2003 C4s with 82k on it and when I went to my garage tonight I noticed a small wet spot under the car. The leak "appears" to be coming from a 5 mm allen bolt on the rear portion of the engine. It is very wet and it is directly above the wet spot? Any ideas...been searching but not much luck thus far. Any help is greatly apperciated. Thank you.

  8. My wife and I just purchased our First Porsche ( YAHOO!!!) It is a 2003 996 4S. However I do have a couple of questions. The previous owner was very helpful and did all of required maitenence up until this point. He also just had the oil changed and a state inspection. Anyway, on to my question, I just noticed today that my electronic oil gauge is on the bottom bar and blinking, upon about 2hrs of browsing on here and reading the manuel I have come to the conclusion that it probably should get a 1/2 qt of oil. My slight concern is that the car just had an oil change not that long ago and the previous owner noted that the car did not use oil. It was a rather long drive ( 200 Miles ) to bring the car home and I thought maybe it did use some oil just because of the long highway drive and that was not typical of his driving. However, is it bad that the oil is that low? Will this hurt anything if I need to move the car? I also only have a small amount of oil on the dipstick on the lower end upon doing a cold check...car sat for 2 hrs. I also am going to follow up with his shop ( Gave me all the major service records ) to verify what weight oil they put in before adding any oil. Thanks so much...look forward to becoming a part of the Porsche Community!

Assuming measurement was on level ground, try adding only small amounts at a time (200 to 400ml) until you get desired level on stick and on electronic gauge - don't dump in 1/2 quart all at once.

Car was on level ground...In my garage. I will add small amounts. Thanks...any other thoughts?
