  1. The transmission drain plug uses a 16mm triple-square (aka cheesehead) tamper proof (has a hole in it) socket. I looked in all of the local auto shops and could not find it anywhere so I looked around online. If you need it go to: http://www.zdmak.com/ Search for "triple square" and you will find it easily. It's $14.99 + shipping ($7 to GA) and would be handy to have before you take off the covers underneath. ;)
  2. Have you disconnected the battery recently? When you reconnect the battery, you have to turn the key to on without starting the engine for 1 minute minimum then turn it off for 10 seconds minimum before starting the engine. That allows the computer to regain all of the settings it looses when the battery is disconnected. If you have disconnected it recently and didn't go through the procedure, disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect it and run through the routine.
  3. It could be the clutch disc or the pressure plate or synchros as mentioned above. Without looking closely, there's really no way to know for sure. If it's the clutch, you can DIY for waaaayyyy less than the $4K. Parts are around $500 for clutch plate, pressure plate, release (throw out) bearing and pilot bearing. Shoot, you can even throw in a new flywheel for another $700 while you're at it if you want to. Then, if you do that, replace the RMS since it's a pop-off job once the flywheel is off. So you get an entire new clutch, flywheel and RMS all in one for about $1200 plus 8-10 hours of your time. The bonus is you'll be real intimate with your Boxster after that.
  4. Is part #996.606.113.00 the temperature sensor that turns the fan on if the engine compartment is >80 degrees C? Thanks!
  5. I am having trouble with the blower in the engine compartment not coming on. The red coolant temp light flashes slowly so I checked it out and found the fan not operating. Here's what I've done so far: 1) Replaced the relay and no change. 2) Tested connections to the relay for power. All incoming have 12V and light mV on the outgoing to the fan. 3) Jumped the relay to see if the fan turns on. Fan works when jumped. I tried jumping it from each incoming connection on the relay. Two of them will make the fan turn on but it won't stop when the car is turned off so I disconnected that and put the relay back in. 4) Swapped out all of the relays that are the same type as the engine compartment fan relay. 5) Checked all fuses, none blown. Are there switches/sensors tell the engine compartment fan to turn on I can check? Thanks!
