    Everything works on my instrument except the speedometer (analog part, digital part lights up and shows miles, but won't count miles) The speedometer works when plugged into another Boxster though... My mechanic says it might be the speed sensor... Any input on this? How could I diagnose this to be sure that the speed sensor is the problem and not some other senor? Any input appreciated! Thanks!

    He told me would open it up and used compressed air to blow the dust out, but wouldn't clean the crystals because he didn't wan't the liability(?) Is it that complicated?!? Hence my question on how to replace or clean.... So, what would you recommend? Have you done this before? Thanks again!

    Thanks for the info! Actually I just purchased a used instrument cluster from Gary @ Oklahome Foreign and sent it out to Palo Alto Speedometer, Inc. to reprogram my miles. I had another question. The used one I bought was kinda dusty.... How could I safely open the three sections to clean inside of them? Thanks!

    Also, the instrument cluster that the mechanic plugged in was for a manual car while my car is a tiptronic... Would that make a difference? They're different clusters with different part numbers, right? Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply! Actually, everything worked on the instrument cluster except the speedometer. The digital and analog tachometer, the ODO, and everything else worked. The mechanic said the speedometer didn't work cause it had to be reprogrammed. Is that right? Thanks again!

    Hi there, I'm replacing the instrument cluster out of my Boxster because according to my mechanic, the original one got fried for whatever reason. He plugged in another cluster and everything worked, except the Speedometer, he told me that it didn't work becasue his instrument cluster would need to be programmed to my car. Is that true? He told me I could buy a used one and use it. I found one with 60,000 miles for a $400. Is that a good deal? My car has 19,500 oroginal miles on the old ODO. I found this place called Palo Alto Speedway that will reprogram the miles, so that is not a problem. My question is, is there anything else that needs to be done to it besides reprogramming the miles? Does the VIN # of the new instrument cluster need to match the VIN # stored in my DME, immobilizer, etc? Thanks! Any help appreciated!!!

    Hi there :( Just like many other Boxster owners, the rear plastic window on my 1997 Boxster cracked. Anyone has any suggestions on repair? My car has no more warranty. I've read that some local shops change them for a reasonable fee. Anybody has any idea of much this would cost at the dealer? I guess I'm looking for an experienced upholstery shop that has changed these windows before... I'm located in Stow, MA. If you kow any shop in the state would be great, but if not, I could always ship the whole top if the price is right. Thanks!

    Actually the other fault code is 56 (instrument cluster activation). Could you tell me what your manual says about this fault code? I appreciate all your help.... Thanks!

    My local dealer... What could cause those fault codes? Since I replaced the engine, the instrument cluster has been acting weird. It worked fine, then the tach, odo, and speedometer stopped working, came back up and then stopped working again... Could it be because I do not have the original set of brains in the car? (DME, Tranny brain, alarm control) Would I need to reprogram these brains with the car's VIN #? I don't get it though, because it worked for a while like that... Thanks for your help!

    :( Please help!!! I get the following error codes in my Boxster's tiptronic fault memory when I hook up the PSII to it. Any ideas of what's causing this? 56 Instrument cluster activation 22 Load signal <-- DME CU I'm getting the following errors on my instrument cluster due to this: Tachometer, speedometer, odometer do not turn on while everything else still works. The lights that tell you in which gear you are are flashing between "D" and "4" rapidly. Please help!!!

    :( Hi Boxster Guru, I have a big problem... My intrument cluster but it went partly dead. By that I mean that the ODO is not showing the mileage, and the tachomoter and speedometer stopped working. The gas gage and the temp gage and the back light is working fine though. I recently had to swap my engine and this started happening since then. It went out, then came back up and now it is gone again. Could that be a ground wire or something like that? Also, the lights for my tiptronic are flashing back and forth between D and 4. Please help!!!

    Hi there! :( My rear window cracked also and the dealer wants to install a new top. Where could I find an aftermarket top? Any websites or retailers selling quality tops? Do you know how much they would charge to install it? (dealer or local upholstery) Thanks!
