  4. Well, I recently sold my 02 Boxster S and have a notion to make good on that dream as a teenager - one day I will have a 911 Carrera just like the one in poster hanging on my bedroom wall. I am trying to buy a 911 of the mid eighties era (probably 1985) and have a few questions for those in the know. 1) Did all sport models come with the whale tail - how can I easily identify the sport packaged equipped 911? For the 85 year was there basically 3 choices - Carrera Coupe, Carrera Targa or Turbo? 2) Targa vs Coupe - is the body rigidity really that much reduced in the Targa? 3) Having never driven one - how is it likely to compare to the Boxster S I just sold. Is it as fun to drive, .......how will it handle in comparison? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.............Alan

  6. Looking at an 03 Boxster s and just wanted to check the option codes. I have most of them from the Option codes lookup - but a few are not coming up. Any ideas on these X97 X98, 239, 476, 502 and 584. Thanks......Alan

  8. Well - been quite a week - sold my 02 Boxster S and after just 1 day of intense withdrawl am looking for another. I am looking at an 04 Boxster S that has the option codes 665 and 670 for PCM with Navigation - as my 02 did not have this gizmo - and I believe I read on the 996 board daytime running lights could be activated by certain PCMs - is this also true for this car with this PCM. It is a US car and I would import into Canada and require DRL - just hoping I could save $200 if this car is optioned for an easy on/off capability with DRL via this PCM. Please can the informed - inform me. :) :) :renntech: :renntech:
  9. I believe the vaseline is to protect the rims from the harmful brake dust and general road debris. The vaseline is the right ph to not damage the alloys as some other over the counter products may do. I have wondered the same so perhaps a more experienced Porsche owner can add to my comments.
  10. They have an interesting website www.swissvaxporsche.com Very expensive detail kits. The Mother's 3 coat kit was about a tenth of the price.
  11. Just wondering if anyone had tried the Swissvax detailing products? I have just done the Mother's 3 stage detailing (Boxster S looks great) and just wondered what more would the Swissvax products have achieved? It seems realy expensive but just read an article on them in 911 and Porsche World June 2009. Any experience with the products?
  12. I also have a US Boxster S and now in Edmonton - when I need tires I am taking a road trip to the US. Way too expensive in Canada. Petee C - what rubber was on the Boxster before you had new tires put on? Did you have to do anything else to the car before it could be 'passed'? I had an airbaglight issue on mine and front brakes and rotors needed done.
  13. Was leaving my top down quite frequently in and around Edmonton, but just hate the dust that can settle in the interior. I was not too concerned with theft from the open top. I now always put the top up when in the garage also for that reason. I have noticed the crinkle appear in my rear window 02 Boxster. I have found by pausing half way down and then exiting the vehicle to fold in the crease that appears in the middle of the window, then jumping back in the car and continuing to put the top down - has really helped.
  14. I thought I read somewhere that if you were due for an oil change prior to winter storage , it would be better to leave that service until you bring the car back out in the spring......something to do with oil breakdown with new oil sitting for a prolonged period of time. Any thoughts? Alan
  15. How often to Renntech members change the oil on their Boxsters. I am so used to changing oil every 5,000 kms with regular oil on my other vehicles that even with full synthetic on a performance car I cannot get my head aroung Porsche's suggested oil change interval - just seems way too long. I am going to change every 6 - 8,000 kms (depending if mainly highway or in city between changes) but just wondered if I should always change the filter at that time, or if every two would be good. I use OEM filters. Alan

As another Canadian that became a US import Boxster S owner last summer, all I can say is you will enjoy your car..............but more importantly you will be thankful you found Renntech before you took ownership of the car - If I had found this site a year ago I would have tackled my own brakes and rotor replacement and saved a considerable amount of money. Don't forget that your RIV and provincial inspection will fail the car if brakes, rotors, and tires are not up to spec your axle problem may give you some grief at those inspections. Enjoy!!
