  1. Forgot to ask: Any suggestions on track tires in 18" sizes? The R888 looks to be the only tire in 18" sizes that has an OD close to stock. Also, what are the suggested alignment settings for a stock suspension car that will be on the track? thanks again.
  2. sorry for the confusion--the original sticker was $97K; he got it for under $50K.
  3. The friend did buy the car in question, not sure if the cam test was done before hand. Sticker was 97K so it has a lot of stuff on it.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Not sure why the PPI didn't include a Cam deviation test, but it isn't on the PPI. I guess the question is whether it makes sense to buy a car like this without one.
  5. Hello all: A good friend is thinking about moving from the 930 series to a 997S; 07 model, 6 spd. with about 50K. Nice condition, 2 owners, no over revs on the PPI or track use. What did show up was some dampness around the IMS flange--no drips, just a bit of seepage. No reports of a cam deviation test.Questions:Anything to look for on this particular model?Weak points?Insist on a cam deviation test? Are these models affect less by IMS failures than the 987 platform? This car would see extensive DE use if purchased. Thanks for any help.
  6. Logray: Thanks for the reply; I'm planning on doing the 160deg. Thermostat in the spring and thought this might be a good add on to do with it, but am rethinking it. Had it inspected in april and everything looked/sounded good.
  7. I got a suggestion from a mechanic to replace my water pump--that would be done with some other work--to avoid near term problems with it. The suggestion was that it should be replaced at 40K. The car is an 06 2.7l with 38K, not quite 6 years old, driven on the track with some frequency. No issues or noises to this point. Any merit to this? thanks in advance
  8. 30K on the shocks with lots of track days. Any info on how long these should last or indicator--other than leaks--that they're done?
  9. I've got an 06 987 with the 2.7L motor/18" wheels and PASM. I do about 8 track days a year and after a 3 day session at VIR thought some mods might be in order to settle the cars rear end a bit (feels loose under hard cornering) and get rid of some of the body roll. current alignment is -1.0 front, -2.0 rear, no toe in front a bit of toe in rear. I've been running tires like the Kumho XS and Nitto NT-05 and intend to move to the NT-01 when the 05's are done. Suggestions I've gotten to improve handling from mechanics has been mainly add GT3 LCA's and rear toe links to start and then add TPC bar and drop link. I have no doubt this will improve thing but the complete package runs about $4k which is way out side of my budget. I'm looking for something to improve handling a bit without ruining the ride; Has anyone tried the Mantis Sport Rear brace? If this were a 986 model I could move to the ROW M030 suspension is is very inexpensive, but the new car doesn't seem to offer than option. thanks for any help with this.
  10. A good friend came across a low mileage, '99' C2 with 22k miles on it; one owner in excellent shape. The owner is looking to get $20K for and my friend asked if he should pursue it. I haven't owned a 996, but haven owned 2 boxsters (a 99 and an 06) both of which have performed flawlessly. Having said that, I know early M96 engines had issues--particularly '99' models that might have had the liners pressed in or the "D " chunking problems. My question is are there enough problems with the '99' to stay away from and look for something a bit newer, or pursue a car like this if you get it at good price. Since this is my friend's first Porsche, I'm trying to be up front with him on all of the potential issues so he can make the best choice possible. Thanks for any help in advance.
  11. I'm thinking of purchasing a used 987 HT for DE use but wonder about just how robust the top is and if the mounting hardware is strong enough to keep the top on during a rollover. Would appreciate any suggestions/observations on this subject--thanks in advance.
