  1. Update: The car has never ran better. The only problems seem to be that it is running slightly hotter, closer to 200F rather than 180F previously, and at the higher temp the idle is a little uneven. I may invest in a new MAF just to see if it helps. I found the Bosch MAF for the 2.5 at autozone for $267 can anybody beat that price?
  2. I don't know where you live but in California you would pass smog for a couple weeks after a CEL. The DME has to record a certain number of "good" drive cycles after a CEL or it will fail. Wow with all those codes the first thing I would check would be that the DME cable is tightly screwed on. The I would look for loose vacuum lines. A clogged fuel filter could explain the rich threshold faults and maybe the misfires but not the air pump. The air pump could be a fuse or perhaps it is unplugged. If the CEL is flashing you risk damage to your cats if you drive the car. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The first day, for a few minutes as it was really popping, the cel flashed then it went back to solid. The 410 and 1411 have been around since January. Just for fun and having nothing better to do last night I decided to pull the MAF and soak it in alcohol to clean it up. Amazingly the car has never performed better. My idle has risen from 900 to 1000 and it is was still a "little" cold blooded this morning (no misfire) but at this point I'll settle. I haven't cleared the cel yet to see if it comes back but it looks like another unexpected result from cleaning the MAF, weird.
  3. Been awhile since I last bothered you guys. In Feb I had codes 410 and 1411. The car ran just fine and a mechanic was able to shut off the cel long enough to pass smog. other than the cel on all was well. Four days ago I started the car and was greeted with popping and spitting, it would idle but acted up when I tried to drive. As the car warmed up all was well and stayed fine (with several hours between statups)until the next morning when I went through the same process. I just got back from having the codes read and here is what I know: 410, 1411, 1124, 1126, 1128, 1130, 1140, 1316, 1317, 1318, 1319, 0300, 0305, 0306. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Steve

  6. It's not that I have anything against the dealer, but at $110 an hour I'd like results. From some of the posts I've read it seems the dealer can chase a problem just like an independent. If they had the golden bullet I'd take it to Gaudin in an instant. I just may give your guy a try. That's the Lake Mead on the North side correct? I'm in Henderson on the South side.
  7. I bought it from a private party for 17k, thought it was a deal ha ha ha! Originally I took it to Meyers on Boulder hwy. I've had good luck with them in the past, but they didn't want to touch it. They recommended that I take it to Tony and Son's on Boulder Hwy and Lamb. The only code I have is the 0410 that I got from the smog booth. I think I'll be investing in a code reader, any suggestions?
  8. Hi, I've been browsing here for a couple of weeks and thought I would join in. I recently bought a plain Jane black 98 Boxster 5 spd. Unfortunately the check engine light was on and I foolishly believed the guy who sold it to me when he said it was always on but still passed smog etc. Of course being OBDII it won't even test with the cursed light on. It kept coming back with the secondary air injection (I believe 410) code. I took it to a foreign car shop and they referred me to a porsche only mechanic. Needless to say he is an old time porsche mechanic and seems totally lost as to what the problem is. Several hundred dollars later he was able to clear the monitors long enough for it to smog but told me he couldn't fix it permenantly for under 4 grand. He thinks there is a problem with the injection system being carboned up where it enters the exhaust valves and he has to take out the motor and completely tear it down in order to fix the problem. Frankley I'm not all that confident in his diagnosis. The car runs fantastic doesn't smoke or use any oil. Does anyone here have any thoughts on what the problem might be. My mechanic and myself have checked all the hoses for leaks and I'm stymied. Teach in Las Vegas
