Jay replied to AIB's topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)The difficulty is that it is next to impossible to diagnose whether the leak is from the IMS or the RMS without pulling the transmission. If you intend to keep the car long term it may be advisable to inspect. It would make more sense if you were close to needing a clutch job, which would require the same labor. Regards, Maurice. and do the IMS Retrofit and RMS while you are at it....... Can the dealer do the IMS retrofit? I only know of LN Engineering that does the retrofit
I'm closing in on 25,000 miles and the brake pads look like they will need to be replaced soon. Least from what I can tell. Some posts state the rotors should be replaced at the same time the pads are replaced. Others state rotors should be replaced once they are worn out. What are your recommendations? How can you tell if the rotors are worn out? Sorry not a DIY expert
Jay posted a topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)Anyone know how to remove the air vents for the AC/Heater so they can be replaced with the carbon air vents?
Jay replied to Noor's topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)Yeah I got mine, MY05 C2S for 43K with 19,100 miles but no warranty. I get nervous reading about RMS and IMS issues with the 05s. The PPI was fine and the mechanic stated that the car was a great deal. My only worries would be brakes and tires. Still wish I had a warranty. I've dreamed of owning a Porsche since I was 14, because they were considered daily drivers, well engineered and rock solid exotic cars. I go to sleep banking on that reputation. I drive the car as hard as I can without getting a ticket or hitting a tree. RMS, IMS be damned.
Jay replied to Jay's topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)Thanks. Will do. What's the difference between check engine and service now?
Jay posted a topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)I finally have the opportunity to buy my dream car after finding a below market deal on 2005 C2S with 18,000 miles. The original owner just had the oil changed at a Foreign Auto repair shop, but did not turn off the sensor light. I drove the car hard and it ran just like a brand new one I test drove at the dealer. The car is clean, car fax is clean and has almost no scratches. The interior just needs to be cleaned up and the car is perfect. The owner allowed me to take the car to the Porsche dealer to check, but the shop did not have the time. I think the car is perfect, just concerned about the light. Can a Porsche dealer tell you why the Service Now light is on and provide a recommendation within a few hours? Any ideas what I should do?
