  1. Just wanted to follow up with everyone. Zim's did the work and replaced a bad cv joint boot and the tab came out to just under $1,200. I'll be picking it up this afternoon. Cant wait to get my baby back!
  2. I got a quote from them to replace the clutch, disc and thowout bearing for $1,128.90 (thats the parts, labor and tax). Sounds like a decent deal to me. I know they have been around for years but I dont know how reputable they are. Has anyone used them before? Thanks BTW, here is their website: http://www.allzim.com/ They are not too far from Dallas.
  3. I'm probably going to end up replacing it myself next weekend and inspect/replace the RMS and IMS. Is there anyone in the Dallas area that has done this before? Could I offer beer and lunch for your input during this excercise? I've got/will get all the necessary tools. I dont have one yet, but I'll be ordering a four-post lift so I dont have to work with jacks. I'd love to take some pictures and do a write up of the whole thing as well. There doesn't seem to be a lot of reference material around for this type of procedure. Any takers? :clapping:
  4. Yeah, I want to go ahead and replace the IMS while I'm at it. I'm still a little confused about that. Does the IMS replacement consist of that triangular flange and the bolts or just the bolts or the actual bearing? I talked to Sunset yesterday and was told that my 02' should already have the updated IMS. I'm confused, could anyone shed light on that? I'm also considering replacing the RMS too.
  5. Can anyone reference a reputable mechanic in the Dallas area that can replace my clutch? I was going to do it myself but just dont have the time. I called Eurosport in Plano but they wont let me provide the parts, which would save me hundreds of dollars. Thanks!
  6. I just put new tires on a few weeks ago so I might take it back to make sure they properly balanced it. I'll also inspect to see if there is any play in the suspect hub. Thanks all and I'll report back with what I find out.
  7. Hello everyone, I've been searching through all of the posts to see if I can figure out a vibration that I have on my 02 Boxster S. At first I thought it was a bad front engine mount but the problem is that the vibration does not go way if I let the car roll in neutral. I usually let the car coast when I am pulling off of the highway (average speed is 65 mph). The vibration stays the same. I am beginning to think that the problem is with the real wheel bearings. Does anyone have any info on diagnosing a bad rear wheel bearing and replacing them? I did not find too much on the net about this so if I do the work I want to take pictures and post it up here for others as well. The vibration sounds like it is very much dependent on the speed of the car and not on RPMs - when I let the car coast in neutral I still get the same noise. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!
  8. May I ask what you would sell it for (the 3.2L)? Do you have pictures?
  9. Please forgive my ignorance. What is a core and how is it different from a used engine?
  10. Jack, I have no doubt that a rebuild will be challenging. That is why I am considering starting the process now while I am not in any hurry to get back on the road. :) I would definitely like to order your video when it comes available. Looking at your chart it looks like the power is maxing out around 5500 RPMs? (I am probably not reading the chart correctly, I've never seen this before). Anyone know where I can pick up a used 3.2L engine for $1,500.00???
  11. Thanks Steve! I will look those names up. Jose
  12. I am planning to change the oil in my 2002 Boxster S myself and wanted to know if there are any DIY resources available. What oil should I use? What kind of Filter? I have read that changing the oil every 5k miles is good, which I intend to do because this car is my daily driver. Thanks!
  13. Hello Everyone, I am a new Porsche owner! I just purchased a 2002 Boxster S with 45k miles and I am the 3rd owner. The car drives like a dream. With that said, I have been reading about IMS and RMS issues in various websites and forums. They are quite scary and I am finding myself driving with a bit of paranoia as I am nearing the 50k mile mark. I have very little knowledge of cars but I am prepared to get my hands dirty and do as much work on the car myself as possible. Something I am considering is locating a used 3.2L engine and beginning a slow (I'm talking years here or whenever/if ever my new baby experience IMS or RMS hell) rebuild process. I am fortunate to have a place to store the extra parts as well as many of the tools that might be necessary. My father is a passionate Alfa Romeo collector and I can keep the 'emergency engine' stored in our stable with our Land Rovers and Alfa Romeos. I know this might sound quite extreme but if I can find an engine for a good price and in small steps work to rebuild it and keep it handy just in case why not? If I make it to 200,000 miles then I will have a fresh replacement at the ready. I have every intention of driving the hell out of this car and I dont want to worry about putting mileage on it. I wanted to get some pointers/feedback from the community about my thoughts. Going back to the IMS and RMS problems, how hard would it be to pull the transmission and inspect those items? Would it not be cheaper to do that than risk a failure? Thanks all and I am looking forward to a long and enjoyable Porsche experience. Jose L. Velez Dallas, Texas
