  1. Currently my driver seat is not moving at all in my 1999 Carrera 996. The passenger seat works perfectly. My question is because the pass seat works does this mean the very expensive seat control unit is Ok and I should check for the actual seat driver switch itself?if so doe anyone have a number for the two lever switch? Thanks
  2. I see the info for the micro switch on the frame but what I was talking about are the switches inside the latch. There are four inside there and a small circuit board. Also where us the exact location of the potentiometer . Hardto tell from the diagrams. Many thanks for help. Dennis
  3. Great I could use some help for the part numbers as I believe there are four (?) up in the top latch assembly. Wondering if there is a diagram showing which is which . Thanks for the help.
  4. Can the micro switches in the top latch mechanism be purchased separately or is it one unit?
  5. I just had a guy check out my top and he said he read fault code 5 for the convertible top? Can anyone tell me what that is?
  6. Ok I got the clamshell working! It was the potentiometer the adjustment was too far down from some previous person.I backed it out so that it would not disengage so far from the inner spring movement.I did notice that the white nylon piece was cracked inside the meter and that did not help but it is working. Now for the rest. Of course now that the clam is working the rag top stopped. I added fluid and closed the screw per instructions but it started to work and stopped. It is stopped in the closed position but the top latch works and opens and closes. It's just that the rag top will not move now. I hold down the button and the top warning light flashes. I don't have any electronic testing equipment. Need some advice here. Ho can I test the multi switches in a simple manner. What should I look for? Reset opportunity? Help!
  7. Ok I have taken apart the clamshell gear drive box and it is fine in the center teeth and on both sides. Cords move well when ratched by hand. I plugged in the clamshell motor and had someone operate the top and the motor for the shell operates in forward and reverse when the canvas top operates. Remember it is only my clamshell that is not closing. The rag top works. Three possibilities. 1. The micro switch for the clamshell lock. Not sure because it opens but doesn't close. 2. The top needs calibration 3. Or this....... I noticed the hydro fluid in the jar is only about a 1/4 inch deep . The rag top works but I don't know if this ties in with the electronic operation of the clamshell even though the rag top is working. Thoughts?
  8. Update... I had my son press te close top button and I was in back and helped the clamshell close. It did with my help and then I opened the whole thing te right way and the clamshell opened but still would not close on the button operated close cycle. Thoughts?
  9. I have a little problem with my clamshell. It is stuck in the open position. The canvas portion of the top opens and closes correctly. I do hear some motion or clicking for about three seconds or so when I hold the open or close button down. It seems to be coming from what looks like the long box in front of the hydrolic box. I have the cover off and can get at everything. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  10. My 99 boxster seems to be losing coolant. There appears to be a coolant smell while driving down the highway when the windows are cracked. When I look at the areain the trunk around the cap after a drive it is wet and appears to be loosing pressure around the cap It was a newer one not long ago from pelican parts I have heard of a bad batch of caps but I have tried about three What is the latest part number for the latest cap? Thanks I meant coolant cap sorry
  11. How about 166k on a 99 Carrera ? Picked up preowned 3 months ago. Did a DIY on coils, plugs, 4 o2 sensors, spark plug tubes , aos, cleaned throttle body and air idle control valve, replaced maf with a $50 china model, fuel filter and running fine!
  12. Wing not working

  13. Yes and thanks on the tire note but no jack either. I think the carcass was picked over when it was used car game.
  14. Thanks gents. I bought my car from a fly by night dealer. Jack missing Tool kit missing Owners manual missing Thanks for explanation however It is now in good care taker hands and improvements are being made weekly.
  15. My triptronic while in the auto mode when starting from a dead stop begins from second gear as opposed to first. When in manual mode it begins in first and can shift upwardly just fine. Why would this occur and what is the remedy? Thanks for the info.
  16. Clean the idle air control valve on the left side of the throttle body. It's possible like many things are possible Sounds like an intake leak. Check all clamps listen for leak. Assembly quality after aos?
  17. I also wonder f this is where the dura metric would help? Since I have not used one yet I really do not know
  18. Just read some more and found out how to open the cluster so I took it apart again and went deeper. Got it open without any damage. Now the digital speedo works and I lost some of the left side illumination around the speedo with the needle. I can't understand this thing. What could be up with this inconsistent power? Ps 1999 996 cabriolet
  19. When I purchased my 1999 used 996 the LCD for the odometer was not lit. When you got close you could read the mileage I followed the instructions for cluster removal and moved some of the bulbs around to see if that would work. I also tried to get the cluster apart but unsuccessfully. I partially separated it at the base but when it would not open at the top I stopped. After I put it back together none of the lcds are lit but everything else seems ok. Any ideas?
