  1. Thanks! I wasn't aware of the age issue. The tires look brand new but I checked the DOT# and they are 9 yrs old. That sucks, they seem perfect.
  2. Haha! Thanks for the advice. I don't want to post online because I'm too lazy to ship them! There are tons of P cars around Toronto so I figure Kijiji will do the trick and someone will pick them up.
  3. Hi All, Just looking for some guidance in setting a value on 4 OEM rims and winter tires. I'm in Toronto and thinking of selling them, they came with my 996 and I have not, and likely never will use them. They were on the car one season only, by the first and only other owner. (A friend of mine). He only drove about 100 miles total, as he had another car for winter and only took the 996 out for a run every few weeks just to keep the battery charged etc. After the first season he stored the car each winter, and I have done the same. The set were bought from a Porsche dealer as their recommended winter wheels/tires for the 996. Any clue what these tires and rims might be worth? Rims- OEM 18" Cayenne S (I assume these are the rims I have as they are identical to those online, see pic) Excellent condition, barely a scratch. Tires- Dunlop Grandtrek WT MZ. 235/65/18 (Easily 95% tread left) I figure the tires were about $200 each new, so it's really the rims I need a value on. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  4. Turns out my hydraulic fluid was low... followed this DIY and all is now good! http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/56-cabrio-top-hydraulic-fluid-step-by-step/
  5. Any luck? My motor has struggled for a few weeks and is getting worse. I'm hoping its just a hydraulic leak as opposed to a burned out motor. Did yours just stop working or die gradually? Any help is appreciated.
  6. My 2000 Cabriolet just came out of winter storage and the roof now needs help to close, and the windows are chattering. I found the thread recommending the BMW lube, but are there specific areas to target, or just aim for roof hinges and down the door sides? I'm not too handy, but I figure I don't need the mechanic for this! Thanks for the help...
  7. Just had the exact problem on my '00 996 with 110k kilometres. In the end I needed a tranny rebuild. The OEM bearings are crap, supposed to be sealed but grease leaks out over time with heat and pressure. The whine is the ball bearings banging around in the dry bearings. While I was in there I had the RMS and IMS bearing done as well. Pricey but worth it, no worries now!
  8. Tech forgot to reset codes after repair...done ...3 days later and still nodash lights coming on. Brake light switch was a quick easy cheap repair !:thankyou:
  9. Had brake switch replaced, drove for 70 miles then lights on again!! Next?
  10. Can anyone recommend an HONEST Toronto area mechanic? I live in Whitby, but Yarko is unavailable. I have tried DFC, HPC (Heimrath - Mario) and a small indepenent, but I got hosed each time. I'm not looking for a deal, just honest work at a fair price! I know there are a few in the west end, but are there any in Scarborough/Durham region? I just need some minor work and a place to go for oil changes, brakes etc. Thanks, Note - I am not looking for an ant referral, as my typo in the title suggests  I meant "any"
  11. I've been offered a set of OEM red calipers from a Cayman S, to replace my boring black ones... Anyone know if they will fit?
  12. I replaced the tubes with simple clear plastic tubing of the same diameter, bought it at Home Depot! The leak was worse on driver side, maybe 65/35. For the cabs...I will bet some or all of your 6 drain channels are blocked with gunk. This prevents drainage to the rear wheel wells and water backflows inside. Check my earlier posts and Loren's guide pix...
  13. Brake lights are fine. Lights now come on every time I press the brake the first time after start up and stay on 'til key is off. Pads seem fine, braking is good. Any other ideas before I go to the mechanic for code reading? Thanks Loren, As always you are a great help..
  14. I have a 2000 c2 Cab. About 2 weeks ago the abs and psm dash lights were coming on intermittantly. My mech said he couldn't find a fault, as the lights didn't come on when he test drove it (of course, the light never comes on for the mechanic!). He figured it was just dirt or something on the sensor, as the brakes and fluids were fine. Now the lights come on every time, as soon as I press the brake pedal. Any thoughts? Is my mech wrong? The car handles and brakes as it always has.
  15. I tried this AM and it worked, and the dash brake light was on. I didn't notice if the light was on when it failed. Hopefully I won't find out!!
  16. I have a '00 C2 cab, US car, 6 spd. My top no longer raises using the toggle switch, it raises fine using the key in the door. When I attempt the toggle the dash light flashes 3 times, but no movement. The key is on, the handbrake is up, the hood is latched...HELP!!
  17. Would you start with cleaning the MAF or just go to a shop? I don't mind spending the cash for a repair, but if a dirty MAF is the likely culprit I'm content to give it a go.
  18. Car runs fine as usual. Not sure if codes are old or new...CEL came on last summer but just getting around to it now. I've replaced 2 o2 sensors over the past 3 years so I assumed CEL was for the last 1 or 2 sensors.
  19. I have a '98 Boxster 2.5 (US model) with the following CEL codes....I don't know what they mean and I'd like to go to the mechanic with a little info in my back pocket. Do I need new sensors? Thanks, P1123 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Lean Threshold P1125 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Lean Threshold P1128 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 2 (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Rich Threshold P1130 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 2 (Cylinders 4 - 6) - Rich Threshold
  20. I have a new set of rear pads from my Boxster, never installed. Will they fit on my new '00 996 or should I sell to my Boxster buyer? Thanks,
  21. Note....Next day found small amount of water on rear floor. Replaced tubes behind rear speakers, old ones were cracking and dripping. Will update...
  22. Cleared all drains....just "rained on" and washed the car and no leaks! Thanks!
