  1. Just to update you, I was able to install the aftermarket gas pedal without bolting it down to the floor. I simply modded the existing accelerator assembly so that I could use the hinge. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can elaborate on the procedure. Thanks to everyone for their input.
  2. Yes, I really like these pedals. Just know that they are not an exact fit for a 996. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380161417554&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_1449wt_941 Does anyone know what kind of bolt I should use to bolt down the pedal to the floor? Also, what bolt length is sufficient?
  3. After conducting more research, I realized that there are gas pedals (typically ones used for heel toe shifting) that allow the ball-joint to be attached to several different positions (top to bottom) along the back of the pedal allowing for different pedal heights. Thus, I don't have to be too concerned with the angle which I was referring to. Can anyone confirm this? If you guys could provide some feedback to my bolt question above, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again. Jason.
  4. You'll need the radio removal keys no matter what. Just search porsche radio removal keys on ebay and you can find some for under $4. That's how I got mine. Also, search the forum for CDR23, mobridge, dension 500, or nav tv and you'll see all the threads discussing the replacement of the CDR23. Then you'll discover that there is no cheap solution for what you want. Good luck.
  5. I have the Valentine 1 and it has saved me from several tickets. I was driving down a toll road late at night well past the speed limit. There were few street posts so lighting was poor. Suddenly, the V1 went off, I hit the brakes, and just down the road a cop car was hiding in the shadows of an overpass. The V1 paid for itself right at that moment. The only thing is that I have it set on high sensitivity so it picks up other devices on the same frequency. Also, after a while you may have to update your V1, if you choose to buy one, as police departments will occasionally upgrade their scanner frequency.
  6. Wow! That is one nice looking car. Congratulations. I know what you are feeling as I am a new Porsche owner as well as of last August (996 also). I should post some pics also. Have fun!
  7. Has anybody ever tried this HID conversion kit from Notto? http://www.carid.com...at=86679&page=1 I selected 2003 911 996 since that's what I have, but they also carry kits for all other years of a 996 and more. The price seems too good to be true. Perhaps those of you who have tried this kit or those of you who are knowledgeable on this topic can share with us your thoughts on this conversion kit. Hope this thread is useful for you guys. I also attached an image for reference. Jason
  8. Thanks for the feedback guys, but the gas pedal is indeed a replacement of the factory pedal. I have already installed the clutch pedal and the brake pedal. I'm just concerned mainly about the gas pedal right now.
  9. Over the weekend, I purchased a set of alloy pedals from ebay for my 2003 911 C4S, but I screwed up because in my hastiness I ended buying a set that does not exactly fit my model. However, I can still use the set if I do some minor customization. But I need some info and advice before I implement a customized solution. My apologies if I don't know all the terms as I am new to this and this is my first Porsche. Here is a little background on my situation. My main issue is with the gas pedal. The new gas pedal is a complete replacement of the existing pedal as opposed to a cover that simply attaches to the existing pedal. I am at a point of no return as I have already removed the existing gas pedal and damaged the 4 rings, for lack of a better word, that are located on the hinge at the base of the pedal. Behind the existing pedal is a ball and rod that extends out through a tiny hole of a housing, and the ball connects to the pedal by use of a socket, creating what is essentially a ball joint. The new pedal is intended to be bolted to the floor. I have attached a picture of the pedal set. I can upload more pics later if you guys need it. My first question(s) is do I need to make sure that the pedal face is a certain angle to the ball and rod? If so, what is that angle? 90 degrees? What effect does it have if the angle is not exactly right? My second question(s) is what is beneath the floor upholstery? When I bolt the new pedal down, what will I be hitting? I am assuming that it's just a uniform piece of metal, but I'd like to make sure beforehand. Is a 10 mm bolt long enough or is that too short? Lastly, are there any precautions I should take or any pieces of advice you can share with me before I start poking around the gas pedal? Thanks in advance everyone and sorry if I am overthinking this. Note: the pics attached are from the ebay posting, so the pic showing the pedals as installed are of a pre-996 set up.
  10. Hi everyone, I’ve been shopping for a used 996 C4S and I found a listing for a 2002 996 C4S manual with approx. 56k miles for $29,995. The catch is that the transmission and front crankshaft oil seal were replaced at around 24k miles. The vehicle history report says the car was never in an accident. I’ve heard by word of mouth that there may be a factory defect with 996 transmissions, but I haven’t found a statement like that in the forums. Should I stay away from this vehicle or is there nothing to worry about? Thanks for your advice. Jason
