  1. congrats colin a mint looking car. I know theres always the turbo and the gt3 camp and I am swaying towards the gt3 albeit i have driven a 996 turbo and that was one grin i couldnt get rid of for a day. Has anyone taken a gt3 and a TT for a test and what were your impressions..... this is the 996 model

    on another note:

I have just received notification that we will be getting about 50 - 60 GT3's here in Australia by August....

  2. Ok so Im looking at the TT and GT3 in a 997. Im really warming toward the GT3 albeit the TT has more grunt. To me its the appeal of having a road car thats from the same ilk as the supercup car. Im looking at a few pointers from people accross the board and there view. May I add no Im not going to track the car.....

  3. actually heres a question from left field. My cousin is looking at getting a 99 Boxster. He has had a quick look over the vehicle and it states 60000K on the ODO however my cuz is of the mind that it may have done a little more like 85 K. I understand that BMW has the original mileage locked into the ECU so if they do a diagnostic they can bring up the original mileage that way it can discount any clusters that have been changed to lower mileage. Does the boxster have the same thing.

I ask this after reading that the odo's can be changed....

    thanks in advance

  4. Just remember you have a RHD car and there are 2 different sided switches for the spoiler.  Also, the switch comes in gloss and matt finish.  You need matt for a model year 2004.

You need memory seats to do the mirror dip down reverse thing.

cool got the switch rhd and matt so were good to go. bummer about the rear mirror..... we have a few places were you paralel park but the kerbs are way high....... not wheel friendly...

  5. hi all,

is there any link to fitting the 996t spoiler switch as a hack for the boxsters.

    thanks.

    Update: disregard found it...

While Im here i may as well save thread space and ask this here. On the 996's they had a provision with the outer mirror to dip down when you reversed. I assume this was so you could see the kerb and save the wheels. Is there any way we can have this system for a 986.... if so mine is a manual if that matters???

  6. thanks. i believe its a matter of drilling the holes to screw it on. i would say your going to need a hoist to get the car up to do a proper job. a friend had one fitted to his boxster many years ago and loved it.......it's a toss up between a totally scratched out bumper or a boomerang that saves same and can be replaced at a later stage if needed.

  7. i assume you mean the pics... they are on the home page of renntech.org. being a nut who likes watching metal form into a car i would love to see a vid of same. i know mini had one for the new cooper a while ago which was pretty cool....

  8. i dont know where to post this but here goes. great pics from the factory. does anyone know of any videos online from the factory where they show the cars being built?????

    thanks

  9. As the part numbers are different and they are the same item (physically when you look at them) one pcm2 is for the US and the other ROW. My question to the matter is is there any internal difference will it work in australia.

example you cant use a harman kardon cd radio tuner from a japanese imported car due to frequency difference in the radio... so is there a major difference../????

  10. ok here goes i hope someone from the US can help me on this preferably with a PCA answer.

I am about to purchase a PCM2 from the US. in the TSB there is two part numbers.

    US one is 996 642 234 02

    ROW is 996 642 204 02

please please if anyone can help me here that would be great as it will help me in the way of purchasing this item

    thanks

  11. Update: I removed the file as it had not uploaded properly to the server hence the reason for the corruption messages. If you need it PM me.... Also i realised you have a file in your TSB. The file I have is dated as

11-may-04 they have changed pages 2 and 3 and classed it as a retro fit. Finally its a document from germany as opposed to the US if that makes a difference????

  12. hi all i have the retro fit guide from porsche i scanned same and saved it in a word document problem is its 7.9 meg big... I am happy to email it to whomever needs it as i am on broadband. Loren PM me your email address and i will send a copy direct to you if you want one to post in the special section......

Oh, I just picked up a new CDC4 of ebay (total cost with wiring $500, the unit to buy from porsche here in aus is 1400) And OBC turned on just waiting for the stalks.

  13. true in the way that we go by registration year rather than MY. the clincher for my purchasing the boxster was the fact that it had been compliance plated and registered in jan 05 mor so the plate than the rego if that makes sense.

Ideally it has more to do with holding value on the vehicle as for some odd reason the culture here is for example if you purchased a dec 04 plated car its regarded as a year old.

So in a perfect world if your to order a car here in australia (luxury cars that is) your always better off ordering a a car late in the year so its built after september as germanys (or europes for that fact) MY changes come into place as they return from summer break and your most likely to have the car arrive late december meaning it can get plated in january (you can actually request that the compliance plate be done this way if your happy to wait and itslikely that it will get plated in december).....
