    I am changing my rear console, I'm not doing a short shifter install....Is it possible to remove the rear console without taking the shift knob off....If I seperate the leather boot from the silver bezel, is there enough room to slide the console over the knob/boot......I just really don't want to take the knob off...... I have the B&M instructions etc, which don't help regarding my question Thanks in advance

    Hi, I'm changing out my rear console, and want to take the oddments lid off my old console and put it on my new console.....Is it just a case of unscrewing things, or is it the same procedure (using rivets etc) as in the TSB for replacing the hinge on a 996 oddments lid....I have a 997 S Many Thanks

    I was cleaning my car today, and I noticed that the rear wing on my 997 C2S squeaks (quite loudly) when it's raised or lowered...Is there some adjustment to make or do I need to apply grease (where?) Thanks Jason

    When you pull out the plastic plugs, you will need to insert a hex wrench and loosen the screws which are about one inch inside. Once they are loose, just pull hard and the piece will come out. The sill is held secure by plastic ridged screws. Be careful and do not pull too far because you must detach the sill from the attached wire. I installed carbon fiber inner sills. New piece will snap right in after you re-attach the wire. Now tighten the hex screws and put back the plastic caps. Great...Thanks for the info jason

    Loren I'm not trying to take off the scuff plate (the part that says carrera) I'm trying to remove the inner door sill (that houses the trunk/hood release) Thanks

    I'm trying to remove the driver's side inner door sill....I can see how to do it on the passenger side (remove the mat in the storage tray and undo the screw) but I can't figure out the driver's side. There are 2 plastic black plugs on the side of the sill, but when I took them out, all I could see was carpet...Any ideas?

    Geoff You can't fix that...it's sound pressure....sticking your arm up disrupts the airflow, that why the noise disappears

    Lous Don't know if you are installing the IHF100 BLNC (Motorola) but if you are.....I've just had it installed and would offer the following. connect the constant, ground and mute, from the radio wires. FYI you'll have to make a lead for the mute as the radio mute wire isn't present...I believe it is pin 3 (your installer will find it no probs)....DON'T take the ignition sense from the radio area, take it from a spare switched fuse (found in the fuse box, by your left foot)..... I found this out the hard way....Basically the ignition is pretty unique on the 997, in that you can for a limited time operate the pcm without the key in the ignition, or after you switch off the car. Because of this, when you deactivate the alarm, it switches on the bluetooth for a few seconds, and more importantly if you are on a call, then switch off the car, the bluetooth remains in handsfree mode (doesn't transfer back to the cell phone). This keeps the radio switched on for as long as the call lasts....There is a possibilty this throws a 'system fault' to the Porsche onboard computer as it isn't able to switch off the pcm. Finally, when you program the handsfree kit, I suggest you have the engine switched on, again because of the above.

    Lous If you mean the telephone module for the PCM, it's not compatible with your cell phone...It has its own sim card module (there's a drawer underneath the number pad...If yours doesn't have the little draw) I don't think you can add the module. Basically the car has its own cell phone I didn't order the telephone....it's not bluetooth & frankly is old technology.....I didn't find the fact that the address book can be accessed from the OBC display very compelling. I especially didn't want a new number for my car, and wasn't prepared to swap the card out from the phone to the vehicle everytime I went for a drive. I had a Motorola BLNC ihf1000 handsfree kit installed last week.....I'm very happy with it.....It seemlessly transfers calls from handset to handsfree and vica versa....it's bluetooth and I believe it's the first kit on the market to offer digit dial...ie you say a number such as 555 1212 and it dials (and you say it all in one go, not 5-5-5 1-2-1-2) The recognition is superb....it hasn't misunderstood a single command yet!!! It looks pretty slick too

    Hi Does anyone have the part number for the lower dash trim piece next to the steering wheel....Is it a single piece (incorporating the holes for ignition and headlight switches) or is it posssible to get just the part directly right of the steering wheel...I've attached a pic, as my description may be hard to understand Thanks

    My money is on 'losing' them when the car is valeted....I HATE valet parking....Had a Mercedes SUV that was delivered back to me as half a Mercedes SUV......And to add insult to injury they claimed they hadn't done it!!!! (car was barely driveable, and still had half the wall on it!!)

    ......."and wait for them to be stolen".....You're all cynics!!!! I always thought that the colored wheel cap centers looked like easy pickings.... Do I take it that they are a little trickier to remove. I think this will make a good social experiment.....The car's arriving in about 1 week. I'll put them on and report back if/when they get stolen

    How do you install the crested valve sleeves? They came with the valves as well. Do you have to replace the tyre valve, or can you just screw the sleeve over the original valves You can see the two parts in the attached photo Thanks

    I've just ordered a 997S, and downloaded the owners manual from the "Porsche manuals" section. Is the PCM 2 manual applicable to the 997, or is it for a 996? I'm actually trying to find info related to the Navigation unit...Basically, I want to know if it is possible to enter a street name & number and have the nav system suggest the city. I can do this with my Mercedes....if you enter a street address, it provides a list of relevant cities to choose from. I find it particularly helpful as I'm relatively new to Los Angeles, and often I don't know if the address is in West Hollywood, Hollywood, Culver City, Bel Air etc..... Thanks
