  1. Hi,

Driving my 2000my 996 c4 the other day. a couple miles after starting when the car was still warming up it just cutout. tried to restart and it just cranked over and would not fire. After a few minutes it started fine and I drove off. A few miles later exactly the same thing happened...

I put my vag obd2 reader on and no codes were displayed. after reading the forums it looked like the crank sensor was the likely culprit so i have just bought a new one and replaced today. Started the car up in the garage and about 3 or 4 minutes of idling during warm up it cutout just the same. after a few minutes it starts fine again.

    So what next??

I also read that the cam sensor may be the issue. I have located them and they look very difficult to remove and replace. When investigating more on the left bank one is conected to any wires. the r/h side one is in place but not connected to anything? Firstly is this correct? I guess so as I can not find any loose connectors that may have come off.

If so I was going to see if I can swap the two over rather than buying a new one. Looks like the AOS will need to be removed though for the l/h one.

Any other thoughts on what it could be.

I am trying to source a durametric kit at the moment as maybe my obd2 is not seeing all the codes.

  2. I'm changing from factory OEM springs to Champion Motor Sports springs (lowering springs) which appear to be made by H&R. I've had my shocks checked and they are in great condition, but the indy didn't mention if there are any other wear items above / below the springs where they make contact. Are there any wear items or rubber donuts / spring plates that I should order ahead of time? I don't want him to get the thing in the air and *then* get a call from that he needs to order some small part I could have given him ahead of time and now I have to wait extra days to get the car back.

    (FYI:I've got a 99 C2).

    Thanks.

    Hi,

The front top mounts were shot on mine. depending on your mileage and budget these might be worth considering. Mine had approx 98000 miles on the clock....

  3. O2 sensor, pre cat if I remember right. It all three cylinders come on at once it is usually an O2 sensor.

Isn't there a dedicated P code for bad O2 sensor? I've been having CEL issues for the past 3 months which led to new plugs, packs, and replacement of lifters. During the entire time, we never saw a code for O2 sensors.

So my question is if you think replacing a $150 dollar part would be a wise? I don't know if the P car oxygen sensors are known to go bad without throwing out error codes...

    Thanks for your help everyone.

    Hi,

I am by no means an expert but my experience may help. I had a tank vent valve go bad which caused the l/h bank to run slightly lean giving some fault codes. I believe the vent valve purges fuel vapour fumes from the fuel tank (carbon canister). Could this be related to the 1/2 full tank and cel you are experiencing?

Those that understand the system better will be able to explain more. But I think there could be a link

    Hope this helps
