  1. I am attempting this too. I am not quite there yet, but you can take the dash console apart without removing the shifter knob or tranny console. You do need to remove the carpet and leather side panels (on both sides of the dash console) and everything else comes out easily. As for your original question; you can find a technical service bulletin on this site, if you become a contributing member. The TSB does a good job of describing how things come apart, but... In spite of the TSB I am having problems. I have the lower console out of the car, but the AC unit doesn't want to fit in the bottom slot without forcing it. So, I am not able to get the AC unit to seat properly in the lower unit. Assuming I can resolve that issue it looks like I will need a new AC trim piece.
