  1. Hello, Today I noticed that the light in the hood of my 996 C4 (Nov. 98) did not go on. I checked the lamp and the fuse and both were OK. Only after I had repeatedly pulled the hood latch, did the light go on again. I assume there must be some kind of switch under this latch. Perhaps cleaning the switch (contact spray) solves the problem. What is the best procedure? Thanks for your advice, jo996
  2. Hello, I can see two, but where is number three? jo996
  3. Hello Djantlive, Thanks for your reaction. I'll try to be more precise. I already took out the two screws, but the mirror did not come off. Perhaps I should have given the mirror a stronger pull. Are you quite sure the mirror is only held by these two screws? What should I do? Pull harder? OK, suppose I succeed in removing the mirror, then I also (if possible)want to remove the exterior triangle plastic piece. This plastic piece is surrounded by rubber. Somethig is wrong with the tip of this rubber. It no longer covers the exterior triangle plastic piece, so I guess that's where water can seep through. I can push the rubber back over the plastic, but each time I open the door, it comes off again. I guess something is wrong, but the rubber will have to come off, so I can see what that is. Also at the bottom of the exterior black plastic piece I can see some rust developing. I have already sprayed this with Tectyl (I hope you are familiar with this product), but I would really like to find out what is wrong. If there is one thing I can't stand it's rust. Thanks, jo996
  4. Hello, I few days ago I noticed that the rubber which surrounds the black (triangular)panel on which the mirror is mounted no longer neatly fits. At the very top the rubber is even a little torn. When I close and open the door on the left I notice that the rubber fits too tightly. I have already slightly adjusted the door striker plate. I have also noticed a little rust. Now I want to remove the mirror, the panel and, of course, the rubber to see what I can do. My car is a '99 (November) C4C. Thanks for your help, jo996
  5. I had a similar problem with my windshield creaking and ratteling in the channel. TSB 6420 fixed the problem for me. It took about 30 minutes to do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hello, What is TSB 6420 about? By the way what does the abbreviation TSB stand for, technical service bulletin perhaps? According to another Porsche owner, the fluid Porsche dealers use, is some kind of silicon-oil. I haven't asked my Porsche dealer yet. J9000, should you be interested in this fluid, I could contact my Porsche dealer and ask about the number. jo996.
  6. Hello J9000, If I am not mistaken you currently drive a Porsche 996. My guess is you have the same problem I had with my car (Porsche C4C). I also thought there was something loose in the dashboard. My Porsche dealer told me this was a problem many 996 Porsches had and that it was caused by the way the windowscreen is mounted. The window can move in its plastic setting, causing these horribly irritating noises which are impossible to locate. Porsche have developed some sort of liquid they put on the window and by means of compressed air force the liquidis forced between the plastic lining and the window. This procedure may have to be repeated once or twice, but it will end the noise. The treatment, by the way, was for free and took less than 5 minutes. A bottle of this liquid costs about, I guess, 50 dollars. I am thinking of buying a bottle myself so I don't have to drive to my dealer should the problem re-occur. I hope this advice is of use to you. jo996 (The Netherlands)
  7. Hello Peter, I have only just discovered that my 99 C4 Coupe has the same problem. I have (as yet) very small rust blisters between the striker and the door seal. You said you would address your OPC and refer to Porsche's Long-Life Guarantee. What about the outcome of your talk with your OPC. Have they agreed to solve the problem and ,of course, at their expense? I intend to visit my Porsche Centre some time next week and show them this problem. I hope you have been successful. Please let me know. Jo996 (The Netherlands)
  8. Hello, Indeed, it is the rubber hose near the door hinge. At some point the plug must have been disconnected and the wiring twisted one time while re-connecting the plug. Jo996
  9. Hello Porsche enthusiasts, Only half an hour ago, while cleaning my 996 C4C, I noticed that the rubber seal connecting the body and the door on the right-hand side is twisted. This rubber seal (too bad, I don't know a better description in English) prevents the wiring linking the door and the body from getting wet. I think I had better untwist this seal as quickly as possible, as I think that at some point the rubber will tear away. I hope someone can tell me how to loosen the plug/rubber seal so I can put things right. Someone must have loosened it before. Shoddy workmanship. Thanking you in advance, Jo 996 The Netherlands
