I have to replace the o-rings and the oil protection tube on one of my cylinders. I noticed that the description in PET for 996.105.325.52 (pipe) states: "use also: grease 999 917 788 00".
Is this for the o-rings? I thought that one could use soapy water for that purpose - did something change? If this grease is required, is there a commonly available alternative that I could find at a local auto store?
Thanks.

John V & RFM - Thanks for the input.
I actually went so far as to back off the fastening nut (dampner shaft) and remove the spring compressor - the mount didn't budge. I also tried improvising with a gear puller, but with no luck.
I tried penetrating oil per RFM's suggestion, but with no luck. Any other suggestions, or is it time to get destructive?

I attempted to replace a failed strut tower bearing today. I removed the strut, compressed the spring, removed the fastening nut, and removed the stop plate. However, I could not, for the life of me, remove the mount.
I was expecting that it would just slide right off. Is there some sort of trick to this?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Mark

I've got the same (intermittent) problem. However, I don't have a fuse in slot E6 either. Should there be a fuse in this slot on a 2002?
Thanks.

Don't know about Ct, but in Ca if the machine senses a CEL it's an auto failure regardless.
From my test results:
"MIL Commanded On: NO"
-
My '02 Boxster failed Connecticut emissions today. The only thing on the results listed as "fail" is "MIL Engine Off".
A cursory google search suggests that this is just a visual of whether or not the check engine light illuminates when the ignition is switched to on while the engine is off. My check engine light does in fact illuminate.
So what am I missing? Is the "MIL Engine Off" portion of the test something more?
THanks,
-Mark

You will have to splice 2 wires together to make the amp work but that takes just a few minutes. You are also supposed to run a reverse signal wire from the radio head to under the seat but that is optional.
Where did you get 4763 since that is the official Porsche version. We have been using 4773 which says Becker instead of Porsche.
Haven't purchased it yet. Didn't know the 4763 was hard to come by.

Fom my failing memory. 2002 was the first year for Bose but Audio Pilot did not start until 2003.
Does it have speed sensitive volume? The gal setting does not seem to do anything.
-
Would an '02 base w/ Bose have audio pilot? My CR220 has a gal adjustment, but I thought the Bose package had audio pilot rather than gal. Furthermore, the gal setting does not seem to make any difference at all.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I would like to install the wipe interval control thumbwheel (like that found on an 'S) in my '02 base.
Does anyone have install instructions? What parts will I need? Is a harness available or will I need to make my own?
Thanks.

I'd like to install the Traffic Pro 4763 in my '02 which has Bose and a CR220. Is the traffic pro plug and play, or will I have to splice wires to make it work?
Thanks.

Dave:
Thanks. I would still be interested in pictures when you change yours out.
Steve:
Perhaps you were referring to the housings. I had read that the louvres had been redesigned at some point, but I didn't realize the housings were different.'
All:
Anyone know why they are different? That is, why Porsche designed them this way? Also, out of curiosity, when (what MY) did this change occur?
Thanks,

Hi-I also have an 02 in guards red--i am putting on carbon fiber side vents and have had the louvers painted guards red.--so i have really looked at my vents. Yours look just like mine. Even though I also am new to this,I pretty sure yours vents are just fine. I will post pictures after the switch.
Dave
Your passenger and driver side housings look just like mine? That is, one is flush and one has a lip?
Thanks.
-
Were the housing ever redesigned? I initially thought it needed to be pushed in, but on further inspection they almost look like to different housings.
As far as repainting, I really hope not. I just took delivery today.
Does anyone have more detailed pictures regarding housing removal? I looked at the link above, and although it is helpful, it is not detailed enough to make me comfortable to attempt this.

Pictures of both housings.

Steve:
Thanks for the reply. However, I think you are referring to the louvres (sp). My issue is with the way the housing itself is mounted. The passenger-side housing is nice and flush with the body. The driver side housing is actually raised a bit above the body.

I picked up my "new" '02 Boxster today. When I arrived home after a long drive, I noticed the driver's-side vent appears different than the passenger side.
I'm hoping that it was just installed incorrectly. Can someone confirm this? If so, how do I fix it?
Thanks,
-Mark
Air Oil Seperator (AOS)
in 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S)
Posted
Hi All:
Every morning, my car smokes a bit when I start it. Such smoke on startup has become increasingly consistent over the past few months.
I pulled the tube connecting the AOS to the throttle body, and found a bit of oil in it. I've attached pictures below. My question is: how much oil, if any, should be in this tube?
Thanks,
-Mark
