  1. Hi All:

Every morning, my car smokes a bit when I start it. Such smoke on startup has become increasingly consistent over the past few months.

I pulled the tube connecting the AOS to the throttle body, and found a bit of oil in it. I've attached pictures below. My question is: how much oil, if any, should be in this tube?

    Thanks,

    -Mark

  2. I have to replace the o-rings and the oil protection tube on one of my cylinders. I noticed that the description in PET for 996.105.325.52 (pipe) states: "use also: grease 999 917 788 00".

Is this for the o-rings? I thought that one could use soapy water for that purpose - did something change? If this grease is required, is there a commonly available alternative that I could find at a local auto store?

    Thanks.

  3. I attempted to replace a failed strut tower bearing today. I removed the strut, compressed the spring, removed the fastening nut, and removed the stop plate. However, I could not, for the life of me, remove the mount.

I was expecting that it would just slide right off. Is there some sort of trick to this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Mark

  4. My '02 Boxster failed Connecticut emissions today. The only thing on the results listed as "fail" is "MIL Engine Off".

A cursory google search suggests that this is just a visual of whether or not the check engine light illuminates when the ignition is switched to on while the engine is off. My check engine light does in fact illuminate.

So what am I missing? Is the "MIL Engine Off" portion of the test something more?

    THanks,

    -Mark

  5. You will have to splice 2 wires together to make the amp work but that takes just a few minutes.  You are also supposed to run a reverse signal wire from the radio head to under the seat but that is optional.

Where did you get 4763 since that is the official Porsche version.  We have been using 4773 which says Becker instead of Porsche.

Haven't purchased it yet. Didn't know the 4763 was hard to come by.

  6. Dave:

Thanks. I would still be interested in pictures when you change yours out.

    Steve:

Perhaps you were referring to the housings. I had read that the louvres had been redesigned at some point, but I didn't realize the housings were different.'

    All:

Anyone know why they are different? That is, why Porsche designed them this way? Also, out of curiosity, when (what MY) did this change occur?

    Thanks,

    -Mark

  7. Hi-I also have an 02 in guards red--i am putting on carbon fiber side vents and have had the louvers painted guards red.--so i have really looked at my vents. Yours look just like mine. Even though I also am new to this,I pretty sure yours vents are just fine. I will post pictures after the switch.

    Dave

Your passenger and driver side housings look just like mine? That is, one is flush and one has a lip?

    Thanks.

  8. Were the housing ever redesigned? I initially thought it needed to be pushed in, but on further inspection they almost look like to different housings.

As far as repainting, I really hope not. I just took delivery today.

Does anyone have more detailed pictures regarding housing removal? I looked at the link above, and although it is helpful, it is not detailed enough to make me comfortable to attempt this.
