  1. I'll have a look at it this evening. Thanks for the help. Let you know.
  2. Google St. John's NL> Closest Shop is in Nova Scotia. Gotta be another way to isolate this problem. Where in the engine compartmnet are the parts you refer to?
  3. Can you tell me where to find them? I dont have access to smoke machine.
  4. Just tried the oil cap. Came off fairly easily. Read codes and had Pii24; 1126 an 0124. Cleared. What's next?
  5. Where should I start .. From most to least likely. Closet dealer is 1500km and a ferry ride away so I am on my own. I am handy enough to work thru this with some instruction.
  6. Thanks. Over the weekend I got some advise from a VW mechnaic who suggested disconnecting MAF. Sure enough the engine starts and keeps running , perhaps better than before. Reattached the connector and engine stalls. I guess it was just one of those strange coincidences that it occurred just after I replaced the switch. Anyway thanks for the contribution I appreciate you taking the time. I have a new IS on order. Should arrive this week. Hopefully it will clear op the weird dash lighg problems. Cheers, Kev..

  8. My car is a MY99 2.5L Tip. I have disconnected battery several timers and retried with no success. It will start every time fine but dies after a few seconds. Even if I rev it hard it will die off as if starved for fuel. Do you know if this could be related to some anti theft protection since IZ did mess with the ignition switch? Thanks for the reply I appreciate your help.
  9. I recently had some problems with dash lights staying on , clock blinking etc and it was recommended I replace the ignition switch. I ordered one from Pelican however when it arrived it would not fit and it turned out I ordered the wrong one. I put the old one back and oddly enough the dash light, clock issue cleared however now I have another problem more serious than the original. The car will start easily however after initial start up the engine runs very rough and shuts off. If I apply gas it misfires has no power and shuts off. It wll restart easily but will not idle. I tried disconnecting battery and retrying but same problem. Does anyone know what has happened. I have the proper ignition switch on order but am concerend I have caused another problem. Any ideas?
  10. Yes I had and was looking for a way to eliminate the switch before I ordered a new one.
  11. Recently I noticed that when I turn of the ignition the dash lights stay lit and the clock starts to blink as if it needs to be set. If I restart the car the clock continues to blink for about a minuite and then returns top normal. After further analysis I noted that I cold get the lights to off by using central locking or the door key however after a few seconds they come on again. Problem is that this drains my battery. Any ideas???
  12. I'm OK with the headlight assmbly, no damage. Thanks I did some more digging and found Pelican Parts.
  13. I have found out 2 reasons; firstly the lock on my Boxster is actually faulty and I am getting it replaced. Secondly, apparently if you leave the car unused for a while the remote stops working to save battery. It could also be your car battery has run down (unfortunately this happens pretty quickly, especially if you have a tracker installed). There are other posts that tell how to re-engage the remote (can't remember off the top of my head). Failing that you may need to get some one to airbag the window and start the car (much less painful than it sounds!) Hope that helps! Thanks. MY battery is OK so I will have to investigate the lock mechanism as you said. Where did you find a replacement unit?
  14. I have just enccountered the same problem. My key will not open or lock the doors from outside . The key just turns freely in the lock. Doid you find out the cause of this?
  15. To make a long story short I recently replaced the drivers side low beam headlight in my 1999 Boxster (just the lamp). In the process of replacing the headlight assembly in the fender I heard a loud crack and discovered I had broken the plastic retainer for the removal lever and the retainer for the main headlight plug assembly. Anyway I managed to McIver the thing to get it back in place but I really need to replace the plastic assembly in the fender that holds the headlight and it's power connector. Is anyone able to help me source this thing. I have googled it but can't find anything.
  16. Maurice , Thanks so much for this advise. Just took my 1999 Boxster out of storage and put down the top. Guess what, the windows would not go all the way back up. I live in Newfoundland Canada so I get fewer opportunities to have the top down and worse problems if the windows don't go all the way back up and I panicked when this happened. However I did a search, found your feedback, tried the cardboard solution and now I don't have to drive around with snow coming in thru the open windows. I sprayed some cleaner and lubricant up into the latch space so maybe it will free up the switch plunger. Thanksl again..
  17. I have a 1999 Boxster 2.5. I bought the car in Florida and noticed when I rec'd it the headlight lens had faded yellow. Uv exposure I assume. Any suggestions how to restore them. They look terrible.
  18. Could not ifnd a match in Costco catalogue in the store. I guess size code 48 ( as per other replies) will be OK as long a s cranking amps match up. Some light reading on Batteries for your Boxster: http://www.renntech...._1entry151909 Regards, Maurice. Thanks a lot. Really helpful

  20. I have a1999 Boaster 2.5 and need a new battery. Anyone know if an aftermarket is available? Costco or something?
  21. I just imported a 1999 Boxster to Canada from the Us and needed a Daytime Running light mod to get the RIV approved. Canadian Tire wanteed almost $400 to do it. I did it myself for $10 in parts and my own know how. I'm going to remove it as I beleive it does shorten lamp life.
  22. I have already replaced the batteries and have gone thru the unlock with key senario a few times but no luck.
  23. I own a 1999 Boxster. I want to replace the Air filter in the engine compartment. Can anyone direct me to the basic procedure to access the engine compartment starting with getting to the compartment cover. I have the 1162 and 1164 codes and want to eliminate this as a possible cause.
  24. I recently purchased a 1999 Boxster. I have found that neither of the 2 keys with remote entry will not operate the door locks. The LED falshes when unlock is pressed but nothing happens. I was told battery went dead while being shipped. Any ideas?
