I got the same, I went into Microsoft's free Paint tool and resized it to 20 or 30% (can't remember exactly) and it uploaded fine, with decent size.

I hear so many bangs, clacks, dinks, bongs, whirrs on my 2003 C4 cab, particularly with the top down, all of the symptoms in this forum cause me an ulcer - it's hilarious.

Is there an encyclopedia or index of noises a 996 engine makes?

My 2003 C4 signal stalk just went too.....

Same symptoms, left turn is fine, but won't reset itself and the right turn has to be held to use the signal. If I had a dollar..........

Agreed, I got mine from Pelican Parts website. I did the whole job including cleaning the housing area in about 10 mins. I think I left a note on what I did and how on the Pelican site, to help others. Not quite as easy as changing a light bulb, but only just.

I have a creak in the rear driver side, seems to come and go. Sounds like the springs on a bunk bed. Local dealer used a crow bar to jimmy up and down and replicated the noise but said they were unsure what it was and maybe needed lubricating. How many of you can say you're dealer went at your pride and joy with a crow bar. Hilarious!

I am also in Montclair and I have to say that short of Grove Street, I practically need a chiro visit after driving the local roads as they are in a really bad state in general. Also hit a hole a snow plow made in March and cost me $700 to get an undriveable dent out of my front right side wheel. That said, get thee out to Pennsylvania, open her up and the smile will still be there a week later. BMW? I think I saw a Z4 this morning in my rear view mirror as I roared back from Rockaway on Route 80. Mind you, someone in a 997 TT did let me know who was boss just before that

My 996 C4 cab 2003 uses a similar amount of Oil, quart per 1,000 miles. Would love to hear more on this subject. I did not have any cap issues.

Just got my 996 2003 Carerra4 back from the PowerTech in Rockaway, NJ. My engine light came on Thursday, and I could feel the engine mis-firing slightly in low gears, though otherwise performance was normal. Posting this in case anyone else gets the same symptoms and panics the way I did when the engine light comes on (apparently solid light I had is better than flashing/blinking engine light). Anyway, with all the (often justified) hysteria on the 996 engines, I thought I'd post the details so that anyone else searching can maybe find some useful information.

In this instance, I got off lightly, turns out it was the ignition coil and mis-firing in cylinder 6. Spark plugs showed oil discharge from cylinder 6, but once all was replaced purring like a lion again. I only dropped the car off yesterday, and I got it back this morning (my choice not to collect it yesterday evening as I didn't want to hit the Friday night traffic on Route 80 that would be taking advantage of the good weather to head out to the Poconos or wherever) .

All in all, pleased that it wasn't something major. :thumbup:

Mine whined, I didn;t believe dealer it was tires (which were at or around 50%). Replaced them and it duly disappeared. We're even now after his false oil leak diagnosis.

Also, get a user's manual off of eBay, worth the weight in gold. Especially if you come to get a hard top (I also got my user manuals and hard top off of eBay). I have no affiliation to eBay, it's just bloody useful for secondhand stuff.

I got a 2003 C4 Cab last summer. To put things in perspective, I drove 10+ Boxsters. I drove 1 911. I love the Cayman's looks (from the back), but if you've got the extra dough the 911 is an all round better car in my opinion and doesn't suffer from the Boxster's depreciation. That said the Boxster is a great intro to Porsche driving.

I think I'll go with Loren's opinion and stay away. I got to drive both a Lamb. Gallado and the new Ferrari California in recent weeks and have a bit of power envy versus my C4 right now.

I keep seeing these Google ads around the margins of emails I receive from the local porsche dealership.

Anyone have any experience of whether or not they are worthwhile?

Can anyone advise on trustworthy places to have servicing and repairs done in Northern New Jersey? I have been to two dealers and a few independents this past 24 hrs and they all seem more interested in being vague and selling scare stories than being helpful. I am committed to doing what's best for the car, which has an ever-stiffening clutch the past 1000 miles or so, but I just have a feeling my lack of technical knowledge is gifting these guys the opportunity to see me as a quiet season cash cow.

Also, has anyone had a clutch replaced recently, that can advise on the cost I should expect? The clutch is stiffening, but otherwise is working fine - not slipping out of gear, etc.

51k, no issues yet. 2003 C4 convertible

Wanted some guidance on how easy it is to install over the soft top and any tips that might help (I didn't get the owner manuals when I bought the car). Are they even worth installing?
