  1. I've been wanting to do the exhaust bypass mod on my 03 Boxster S, However I'm thinking of doing it between the cats vs after both cats. I also want to add valves so I can adjust the volume and sound. I'm thinking of adding 1" pipe, before the second cat. It would also give a slight HP increase as well. Anyone have any input? Anything I should watch for? Any reason it shouldn't be there? Thanks,
  2. I figured out the problem and just wanted to post the solution for anyone else. The heater and AC run at the same time. There is a central flap that swings to adjust temp between the two. For me, the motor to the central flap had just become disconnected from the flap. Its at the bottom of the unit towards the center console. I just plugged it back in and it worked. The test was that the air would stay cold on the lowest fan setting, but when I turned it up, The velocity would grab the internal flap and close it so that heat only came through, You could hear it close internally. Hopefully, this will help someone else. Gotta love a free fix.
  3. I have an 03 S and love it. It had an engine replacement in 07, so the engine had all the upgrades and updates. Just 20,000 miles on the new engine. That played a big role in my decision. Each year they add a little more, and address issues. I think as a general rule newer is better, unless you just find a great 02 or 03 for the money. Soon, I will be looking at an 07 or 08. Love these cars.
  4. I take mine to 6500 rpm quite often. It will actually run smoother after I do. They LOVE to be driven. I don't recommend it, but I got mine up to 155mph top down and there was still room to go. The faster you go, the more it sticks. Definitely do some DE events. You learn more about the car in one day then you might ever learn otherwise. They can handle corners, much faster than you would think when you do it right. They are also very intuitive. Once you take it to the edge, you can really feel when it's on the edge and about to slip out from under you. They have a very controllable slide. They are a blast to drive on the track.

  6. Well, I got excited too soon. It's still doing it. Does anyone know how to test the inside and outside sensors? I have a multimeter, I just don't know what to look for.

  8. I have a 2003 Boxster S. When I turn the AC on, It blows heated air. The fan controls turn up as it senses it geting hotter, but the air is hot so it just keeps getting hotter and faster. The compressor is kicking in. Is there a relay that controls heat/cold? It acts as though it's stuck on heat, but everything else works as if its blowing cold air. I was hoping it is a relay, but I looked at the charts and didn't see one that would pertain. THX
  9. Hummm. Mine makes a click click noise when its set to outside air. When I turn it to recirc it quits. Mine is the flapper motor which is literally the last part between the AC unit under the dash and the wall of the car. You might take a look with a flash light. I can see mine twitching.

  11. One other question. Will the clutch get stiffer as it wears, or is someone full of S?
  12. I wonder if there is a way to know this without pulling the transmission. Would the dealer that replaced the engine have the record? If it is retrofit-able, I'd like to get the parts and do it all at once so that the cars rear isn't in the air like a cat in heat for 2 weeks. Also is there a clutch kit # for the 987 clutch? I just see separate components online. Thx,

  14. Thanks Wayne. Are you saying that if my car had a rebuilt engine put in it in 2007, that I wouldn't be able to replace the IMS without actually going deep into the engine? There is no longer a removable flange? If so, do you think they addressed the issue enough that I shouldn't be concerned? Love your articles on Pelican BTW.
  15. Pelican parts says that the 987 will interchange with the 986 and has more clamping power. I don't know if it's really necessary, but I thought hey, why not.
  16. Thanks JFP. That's what I was hoping for. It's a lot easier than learning how to dislocate my elbow and wrist. That is pretty much what I used. That dang spiraling metal tube causes me a lot of choice words. Could it possibly be more in the way??
  17. Porsche parts typically wear faster than a Toyota. They are much higher performance and will wear faster. The payback is that I have an 03 S that handles almost as well as a new one. There is more maintenance involved, but they are wonderful cars if you are a driver. I took mine to my first DE racing event the other day and all I can say is that you can have my Boxster S when you pry it out of my cold dead hands. :)
  18. Just reach up through the wheel well? Do you have to have ape arms. :) Maybe I can push my 3 yr old up in there. Does any special wrench help?
  19. Is there a trick to reaching the bleeder valve on the clutch. I've bleed it before, and it was a total pain to get to. Any tricks?
  20. I have a 2003 Boxster S with 47,000 miles. The dealer inspected it for a DE event and said the clutch was stiff. They said it was a sign that it is worn and will need to be replaced soon. The current clutch has about 27000 miles on it. The engine was replaced by Porsche in 2007 and has about 20,000 miles on it. 1.) Should I purchase the 3 piece kit or the complete kit that replaces virtually everything including the flywheel? The 3 piece is about $470.00. The full kit is around $750.00 2.) While I'm there, I hear I would be nuts not to replace the IMS bearing. Should I just replace the bearing with original Porsche, or should I put out the $600.00 for the L&N ceramic bearing retrofit? 3.) I hear the 987 clutch will fit my 986 engine and is stronger. Should I?
  21. Those are nice seats, but for the money, maybe the ROW suspension would be a better purchase for now. Not to hijack my own thread, but what are your opinions on that? I've never really liked the fact that the Boxster looks like it sits slightly lower in the rear. Maybe it is just an illusion. The ROW kit should take care of that. Any input?

  23. I have a 2003 Speed Yellow Boxster S and recently participated in a DE event. If you haven't done it, you gotta try it. These cars are pretty amazing. The stock seats aren't that great for racing. You tend to want to slide out of them in hard corners. I am planning on doing more events, so I am considering purchasing racing seats. I know nothing about this. I want an adjustable seat, something I can use everyday as well. Are there any racers out there that can offer any advise or input? I am looking at these. I think they would look great in the yellow car.   24. For whatever reason, if I keep a CD in the player it doesn't reset. I can listen to FM or whatever as long a CD is in, it works fine.
