  1. Thanks Loren. I had seen this article on the web. It's actually how I found the product. It looks really good. Have you used the product. Can you use a paint stripper on the rims. Mine have some areas where it looks like a chemical like brake fluid had gotten on the rim and wore off the paint in areas. It was like it when I bought the car. Refinishing it looks like an easy enough job. Entertaining and cheap.

  2. I have an '02 Boxster base with about 50K miles on it (80K km). I get the reported problems with engine mounts: vibration down-reving at 3000 and trouble shifting especially 1st to 2nd. So I suspect the engine mount and will be bringing in to a shop to get a new engine mount in the next few weeks.

Any opinions on whether I should get just the engine mount replaced or engine mounts & transmissions mounts replaced?

I would sooner not spend the extra bucks on the transmission mounts but also don't want to make two trips to the shop.

I have an 03 S with 45,000 mi and from what I understand it is mainly just the front. I will be replacing mine next week. The part is only about $100.00 and it doesn't look so difficult to replace. http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Install_Front_Engine_Mount.html

  3. Could this be battery related? At best there may be a loose connection at the battery. Was it recently disconnected? Also, does the starter sound more sluggish when you start it in the AM (cold start) as compared to later in the day? It is possible that the voltage may drop below a certain threshold for the radio to remain operative.

I'm no expert but this is just a thought.

This would be my thought too. I had a 944 that seemed to be possessed. The radio would turn on and off randomly somedays, the keyless entry was iffy, sometimes the gauges would die while driving, and worst of all sometimes the moonroof would unlatch itself. (That's seriously bad news in a 944) I just got a jeep too that would misfire on 1 cylinder whenever it rained. It was corrosion on the battery terminals both times. Get a wire brush and clean the inside of the terminals and the battery posts till they are shiny silver and then try it. It's good thing to do regardless and is a very cheap fix sometimes.

I'll give that a try. Funny, I didn't even think about that. kinda reminds me of "ain't got no gas in it".

  4. The other day while replacing my half axle, I noticed that the wiring to that sensor was rubbed and almost broken. This was in the left wheel well. I repaired it. I'm not sure what was rubbing on it. I would check it. You just have to remove the left rear wheel. The sensor is attached to the control arm. It's pretty flimsy. The arm might have also detached or something.

  5. Hi all, my first post of any forum (!)

My 03 Boxster does exact the same thing. It also only seems to do it after being sat for a few hours, either over night or after a day at work. Been doing it for months now and I'm no closer to finding a solution.

In addition after running for several minutes, usually at least 7 (yes I have timed it!) the radio tunes out and doesn't tune back in again until the ignition is switched on/off - do you have the same problem ?

I haven't had that particular issue. I still haven't figured it out. I'm am guessing it's just a problem with the head unit at this point.

  6. I haven't pulled the radio, because I don't have one of the Becker tools to pull the unit. I guess I'll have to order one. Does anyone have a photo of one. Maybe I could just make it.

There is nothing that I know of that comes on 30 secs after starting. I also timed it and it is sometimes around 20 secs and sometimes a minute. I have also completely turned off the Climate Control and it still does it. I have also wiggled relays and fuses. Next step I guess is to pull the unit. What a pain.

    Dang Loren you're good. Thanks.

  7. I wouldn't use Mobil 1 0W40 in my lawn mower.

I wouldn't use Mobil 1 0w40 in a lawn mower either, or any other 2 cycle motor

Please don't turn this topic into a Mobil 1 bashing discussion! That was never my intent in posting. There are plenty of other Mobil 1 comes straight from hell topics

But it's soooo easy and it's fun. :)

  9. I have used the Porsche top sealant on the top, but I need to do it again and don't feel like driving all the way to the dealership. Is Scotch guard the same thing? When you use the Porsche sealant the water beads nicely on the top as if it were painted.

Can't beat RaggTopp cleaner and protectant. Much easier to apply than the Porsche stuff and same, if not longer lasting, protection.

Make sure you get the one specifically made for fabric tops, as they also make a formulation for vinyl tops.

    Regards, Maurice.

The Porsche stuff was a pain. I had to tape it all off like I was painting to keep it off the paint. I have heard the RaggTopp is good. Do you know of any local stores that sell it? Walmart, Autozone, O'Reileys, Pepboys, Napa etc.
