  1. Hi Guys

my C4S coolant temp light was flashing, temp didnt go up,i picked up the pink porsche coolant and with 50/50 distilled water i topped it off, took a little over a quart, surprised it was that low, dont see any leaks or signs of intermix, can coolant level go down over time?,how can you know if there is air in there,i have read that it is hard to bleed these

    Thanks in advance

    Albert

  2. Two questions, since I have an 02 C4S that had a mysterious noise that finally was fixed: are you sure the noise is coming from the front; what type of noise is it (sounds like . . .)? Over the months that I tracked down my noise I picked practically every part of the car as the source of the noise and the cause ended up not being where I thought it was - it was a bad weld between body panels at the rear of the car. Hope this helps some.

it really sounds like its coming from there, the noise is hard to discribe, its like a rattle but not a steel to steel rattle,i did think that it may be somewhere else so i am going to check the whole car out,how did you find the weld?

  3. Hi guys

i posted a while back about this, have a 2003 C4S 27000 miles,im the 2nd owner, clean fax nice car, had(still have) a noise that seems to be coming from the front left wheel area and changes with road surface, its been to a porsche dealer and 2 indy shops, porsche dealer thought it was wheel bearing, changed both sides and still have noise, they said it was normal road noise, one indy said it was road noise, the other indy said something is causing the noise but cant see anything,he also said it may be the axle or front diff but wont know for sure unless he takes it apart, have also changed tires have Sumitomo's,no change in noise, new rotors and pads(it did need them anyway,no change, new front diff oil still no change,i dont believe this is road noise, getting pretty fustrated, what do i have to do to find the problem, any input please

    Thanks Albert

  5. Here is the tools that makes this simple. A 19mm Crowfoot wrench. Use this with a 3/8" universal, extension and socket wrench and the removal is simple.

Jack up the car, put in a jackstand, remove rear right wheel, slide the crows foot wrench in from the bottom, you need the universal to get the wrench on due to the angles around the spark plug shield. A little twist on the socket wrench and it loosens right up. the just spin it out from the top, spin the new one on and tighten it down with the crowfoot. Really easy and fast.

Got the crowfoot at NAPA, here is a link

Probably available from other sources. Made the job incredibly easy.

  6. I have read a few forums on how to get to my trunk when the battery is dead...well i took out the battery and closed the hood ( i know i'm a idiot).

    I have a 1999 C2 Cab.

    1. I have heard and read about jumping the hood release using the fuse box, what i have found on the net it doesn't have a pic off a 1999, 996. Will this work for my car?

    2. All tools are in the trunk so i can not take off the front tire, so do i have another option (like take off the cover to the manual lever's inside the cab)?

once again this is my first post and my first porsche. I just got back from Afghanistan and i want/ need to bring home my baby.

    Thanks for the help

    Jerid

  7. 2003 C4S 1 owner,no accidents,25000 miles

posted on this a while back, have a noise when driving coming from the drivers front wheel area, sounds like a coffe pot perking fast, cahanged tires, wheel bearings, front diff oil, check the whole front end, nothing loose, the noise is less when i go from a rougher road to a smooth road but still there, please any ideas this is driving me crazy and tough on the pocket

  8. Model & year of your car please.

I think somebody is taking you for a ride.

My C4 2001 cab, Hardtop has a wire with a plug connector on the end,

(which you, well yes you guessed it,) connect when you install the top.

And this powers/controls the defrost function in the glass.

Maybe the wire's where damaged when the top was once removed,

in the cars manuel they say not to forget to disconnect the plug before removing the top as to not damage the wire/plug.

    its a 1999 C2

  9. I'm not sure if this is the same noise, but my C4S makes a noise that is also more noticable on the highway that sounds like a pulley or air conditioning compressor, only it seems to come from the front of the car. I've got new tires and have had my front wheel bearings replaced.

In mine, it seems to be related to throttle input. If I'm cruising at 65 mph and I let off the gas, I don't hear it. If I start to press on the gas pedal, I hear it immediately. it doesn't change in pitch as the engine RPM increases. If my windows are open or if I am giving it lots of gas, I don't hear it. It is most noticable when I barely press the gas pedal at highway speed.

Does this sound like the issue you're having? I'll be interested to see, because I haven't found a solution to it yet. I was wondering if it was drivetrain noise related to the AWD sysem.

its hard to tell without hearing it yourself but it may be a similar noise,i discribe mine as a coffee pot perking fast at the end of the perk,it does get quieter or louder with different road surface, dont hear it as much when i gas it because of the engine roar,i too changed 2 front wheel bearing and got new tires and the noise is still there,im wondering if it has anything to do with front differencial oil low or need to be changed, like i said i had 2 porsche guys check it and they say its normal(i disagree),please keep me informed if you get any soulutions on your end and i will do the same Thanks Albert
