  1. Does the oil have to be drained when replacing the seal?
  2. Good news my car still has 3 weeks warranty left. so Porsche will cover it. Will the new RMS seal finally fix this problem? Also, the Service Manager said that his tech. was going to check my case bolts to make sure that I have the latest bolts. I am not sure what the bolt fix is about. Maybe a source of more oil leaks? My 996 is a 2003 with 11K mi. Is there anything else I should have checked before I go out of warrany? Thanks!
  3. I am going out of warranty in the next couple of months, and I don't think that I will purchase a extended warranty. Vehicle just turned 10Kmi. 2003 cab. I am the orginal owner. What issues and TSBs should I be aware before my warranty expires? I know about RMS and intermediate shaft leakage issues. Any other issues? Many thanks!
  4. I would take to Stead Porsche in Walnut Creek and speak to the service manager, Eric Shaffer. I have been having my cars serviced there for almost 20 years.
  5. Thanks Loren. It goes away in about 5-8 min. Then, everything is fine. It only does this once in awhile, especially if the car has not been started in a week or so.
  6. My engine has developed a noise on the right bank when it's cold. It sounds like a lifter noise, but I'm not sure. The noise goes away after the car warms-up. Car has about 10K mi. on it and about 4 months left on the warranty. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks!
  7. I have a CDR23 MY2004, PN 996.645.129.06 that I need to get the pin-outs for the 3 connectors on the rear of the unit. What I really need to know is which pins are +12V and ground. Thanks!
  8. Does anybody know what the warranty is on a battery for a 2003 996 that has 11 months left on the factory warrany? I called the dealer and he said that b/c I have such low milegae 9000 miles, the battery would not be covered. I thought it was 4 years or 50K mi.? Thanks!
  9. Thanks Loren! My trim looks different from the the one in the instuctions that you sent me. I have a few more fasteners and there is something holding the corner of the trim. I don't think it is a fastener like shown in the diagram. I have removed all 5 fasteners, and the corner of the trim seems to be held by something else? fastners.bmp
  10. Pleasse see attached picture. I am trying to remove #5 and #16, the inside trim that attaches along the roof ridge. I can remove the plastic rivet/clips, but can't figure how to remove the very end corner that is towards the front winshield. Thanks!
  11. Thanks wross996TT Holy Mole! I think that I may pass on this mod...too much work!
  12. How hard is it to change the 3 dash strips? It looks like they are screwed from inside the dash. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  13. Hmmm, we include instructions in ALL our painted trim, so I guess you got it somewhere else. Plastic spatula, pry from one side. If you notice the prongs on the one you have, you'll see exactly where you need to push in a bit as you ease the old one out. Good luck. See me next time. :P Thanks Eric! A friend of mine gave me some spare parts, otherwise, I would have come to you for the parts. :-) How hard is it to change the 3 dash strips? It looks like they are screwed from inside the dash. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mike
  14. I just purchased a new silver ignition switch trim and I haven't a clue how to remove it. Can someone please help me out? Thanks
  15. The product is now officially in release. We are not their spokesperson, just a distributor. But we have a large standing order that should be to us within a couple of weeks, three at most. To get on the list for the group buy, just email me your year/model, whether you have nav/bose/cd changer, and your name. I will add you to the list and when we have the actual product in hand, the order site will list it. First models are for '03 to present, MOST bus, NAV only cars. Next model in about 30 days for non nav. eric@bumperplugs.com Eric, What is the cost of the unit? Is this a DIY project? Thanks, Mike
  16. Thanks Ron, I will check with Gert, but I am still wondering if there is a Porsche P/N and can be ordered locally? Anybody know the answer, if so do you have a P/N? Thanks
  17. We produce both finishes. Until the '02-ish time frame, alumalook from Porsche WAS Arctic Silver. Then they lightened the tone and beefed up the metallic flake content. We produce exact matched alumalook in nearly all the trim. Where did the Arctic one come from? What else in the car is Alumalook? If you look at the alum/leather shifter/brake, that is true alumalook. Take a look at our Gallery page for a full blown aluma interior we did recently, and you will see why it is different from Arctic. Email me anytime: eric@bumperplugs.com I purchased the Arctic horseshoe from Jeff at Sunset Porsche. According to Jeff, the horseshoe only is available in Arctic silver, not Alu Look for 2003-2004 MY. I have the center console, door pockets, and side pocket doors in Alu Look finish. I looked at your gallery, and the horseshoe looks like my Arctic horseshoe. I know that it's hard to tell by the photo if the paint is the same. I am just not sure how it will look with the other Alu Look pieces. Can that piece be ordered in Alu Look from Porsche? Do you might think that it would look strange with only the Arctic horseshoe? Thanks Eric!
  18. Is the Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) available only arctic silver, or can it be ordered in the Alu Look for a MY2003? I have Alu Look in most of my interior, and I was told by the dealer that the Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) can only be ordered in arctic silver, if you like a silver look to your Upper Center Console (Horseshoe). I just received an arctic silver Upper Center Console (Horseshoe) but I am not sure I will install it b/c it's color is a bit different from the Alu Look. BTW, the exterior color of my car is arctic silver. Anybody know? Thanks, Mike
  19. Hi. You can try Baron von Frier in Berkeley. They replced and repainted the rear plastic bumper on my '98 Passat Wagon 5-6 years ago. The color was Nebbio Blue, a light metallic blue. The bumper was a perfect fit and the paint was a perfect match. It still looks that way. Thank you!
  20. I need to get my rear bumper re-painted, and need a recommendation for a top notch painter in the East Bay; I live in Pleasant Hill. I won't use Cook's anymore, b/c the last two jobs were terrible. Thanks, Mike
