  1. I dropped my newly acquired 03 at the dealer tonight for a baseline service and road force tire balancing... I asked about pricing on ROW 030 and side skirts for grins, and he mentioned they had a new porsche software upgrade that could liberate some HP for me, and they could sell that, and keep the warranty ! I had never heard of such a thing. Have you ? is the guy on crack or is this something new that stayed below my radar ? If so, is it any good ?
  2. Thanks ! It doe slook like a passport or Valetine 1 nose. But it won't turn on using either switxh or knob, maybe something was plugged on the button's jack on the picture, but no cable to be found either. Given the rear mount (somewhat useless) - I will remove it and see if the detector is still good ! Too bad about the rest of the install I guess !
  3. Sorry if those are newbie questions, but my new-to-me car came without any manuals or history... Does anyone have any idea what the items on the pictures circled in red might be ? They look stock but I think they are not ! Initially I hoped for a sort of Ipod setup, with what looked like volume knob and jack to plug it in... But the back window thing looks like a passport radar detector stuffed in a box... Could it be ? Is that back window thing standard ? The carpet looks similar but it really looks like the nose of my old radar detector ! If so, then maybe those other knobs might be related to remote activation and power, but nothing seems to work ! Clues welcome ! PS: Could it be for a phone ? 2 distinct things ?
  4. Thank you guys! I swapped in my 987 for an 03 996 last w/e and that very same problem was driving me nuts ! I was starting to worry ! I had it pegged at 3200 rpm, so 3250 is close enough ;-) I will ask the dealer to check my DME for a software update but barring that, will learn to live with it too !! One less worry !!!
  5. I just got an 03 with the regular "fish mouth". Can you guys confirm/disprove that a C4S front bumper will fit but requires some adapting, and that I am better off buying an anniversary 996 front bumper (that will just bolt on) ? How bad is the C4S one, if that is true ? It's a lot easier (cheaper) to locate than the Anniversary model ! Thanks !
  6. > Complete newbie here. I am shopping for a 2002 Targa and am wondering what sort of things I should be aware of about this car. I'd drive it.... This w/e I had a choice between a very low mileage 02 targa, gorgeous car, and a more mileage 03 coupé. I wanted the targa, I lusted after the targa, my wife too... we ended up with the coupé. The doors on the targa closed witha fling, instead of a thunk... it felt flimsier all around. It might be just that car, I don't mean to badmouth targas, they are gorgeous cars, but drive it for a nice test drive before you decide !
  7. I'd think so... Keep in mind it's the overall wheel+tire diameter that matters... a 19" wheel will tend to have a lower profile tire, say a 35 (like in 265x35x19 of rinstance), vs say a 15" wheel like on my 73 911 which yould have 70 side, high profile. But overall the diameter of the wheel+tire combo should be close and keep the car level. Even if it's not perfect it beats waiting 2+ hours for the tow truck like I had to do! But I'll let experts confirm this !
  8. As a 987 owner (also no spare) looking at a 997 next year, I have to say the lack of a spare sucks... I blew out a tire last week and it took Porsche 2.5 hours to send a flat bed. Then they "doinked" the wheel while driving the car on the flat bed... Then I had to get the dealership to order one and charge me dealership prices ($404). I've bought a spare from a dismantler from an earlier model (986 for 987, I am sure 996 for 997 works too). That fits in the front trunk fine fully inflated if you tilt it a bit, straight up if you deflate it.. Porsche wanted $371 for a new spare wheel and $190 for a jack !!! I got it used and bought a 944 jack ! I would definitely buy the factory solution with a new car, you cannot rely on the 1-800-Porsche tow to be quick....
