  1. Hello Porsche fans, I have just purchased my first 928 and she is a beauty. It's only been a few weeks. Now I'm doing what I love the most which is tinker and make it even more perfect. On a recent cruise, I noticed that the engine temp got really hot (after being idle for a minute or two). I was just around the corner so I went home immediately. The red light litt up as I pulled in the garage. I parked it immediately and turn her off. the previous owner mentioned that the fan should run even after you turn the car off and remove the key but no such thing happen. I also notice that coolant started dripping on the floor. I determined that it was just coming from the reservoir from the overheating. with that, I was confused because the fan didn't kick in. I took the car out again today and she seems to stay cool when running at speed (35mph or more). but once again would heat up when stopped at lights or driving at slow speeds. I could not hear the fan kick in at all. But I noticed something strange, the fan inside the car cabin would kick in on bust for about 10 secs randomly. At any point it would just blow at top speed even with the control knob turned off! what's up with that? this is my first 928 and I'm looking for some direction. I should also mention that the fan was changed to an electric one. Hopefully that doesn't complicate things too much. Any help is appreciated. Roch.
  2. typical codes were p1128, p1130, p0507 etc.... So here is where i'm confused. if the MAF doesn't affect anything at idle, then why is that when I change it to the new one it won't even hold and idle and sputters, then I put the old one back in and all is fine (but it just idles high after a while)? I did clean the TB during the summer and butterfly. All looked pretty clean. I haven't looked at the TB control valve though. Is that hard to get at? is it buried or can I see it when I open the lid? Thanks.
  3. Hello gang, My 2000 996 C4 was throwing codes and idling at 1200 or even higher in spurts. I was told I should replace the MAS. So I did. When I fired it up it wouldn't even hold an idle before dying and it was very rough shaking the car. I put the old one back in, cleared the codes and lived with the high idle for the summer. I was then told that I should have disconnected the battery and drain any juice before reconnecting the battery after a new MAS instal. Supposedly the ECU needs to reprogram. So, I did that. Put in new MAS, disconnect battery and reconnected. Started it and it won't hold an idle. When I give it gas it's really rough and sputters gasping and coughing. Is that because it's not reprogramed and needs to be run for a few cycles? I'm at my witts end on this. Any help is appreciated. Roch.
  4. So...Can anything be done to fix that? I would rather lower the front than lift the rear. My 914 was a quick fix, just tighten the torsion bars to lower the front (did it myself in the driveway). But I assume it's a little more involved for a 996 C4. Thanks in advance. Roch.
  5. Is that located in the "box" or is that in the shock tower.
  6. Hey Gang, I have had a squeak progressively getting worse in the front of the car. it's sounds like a "rusty hinge" on a door (think scary movie). now it's very loud. Seems to occur when the car is at slow speed and being shifted side to side over uneven road or when I turn the wheel back and forth. I had the hood open and pushed up and down on the fender to see if I could locate and isolate the sound. It appears to be coming out of the "box" in the trunk (this is a C4). My take on it is that it's coming from the front differential. Maybe a CV joint that needs to be greased? Has anyone ever had this happen? Thanks Porsche fans!:thankyou:
  7. Hello Porschephiles, I would like to upgrade my horn to something more aggressive (maybe dual tone). Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't like my 996 sounding like Herby the Love Bug. Thanks. Beep Beep! Roch.
  8. Hey Loren, That's what I used in the first place to disassemble. the solenoid looks like it's working fine (moving in and out when I lock and unlock doors). I disconnected the cable at both ends and it won't move when I pull from either end. Are these prone to seizing (rusting inside)? It feels jammed or pinched. Aaaarrgggg!!! It worked fine up until a few months ago. It just suddenly quit on me. R.
  9. so I took it apart at both ends. The cable looks jammed somewhere in the middle. Both ends are intact but I can't move either of them. Is it possible that it's pinched somewhere in the middle? Does that cable run inside the car or on the outside (under the car)? thanks. Roch.
  10. always something to work on my 996!

  11. Thanks Loren, So what's the first step in finding/fixing the problem? Roch.
  12. Hey gang! I have a little problem. My rear hatch release on my 2000 C4 is broken (wire snapped or something let go) I am able to open via the emergency cable in the left tail light. However, I would like to fix the release mechanism. Any ideas or steps I should follow to see what the cause is or how to fix it. I thank you all in advance. Roch.
  13. Thanks guys, reverse lights are working so it's not the fuse. I guess it's the switch. I'll have to take it apart and get another one. R.
  14. thanks guys, I'll examine a little closer for cracked line. It's not the temp. the car is in heated garage. I'll keep you all posted.
  15. Has anyone ever encountered low pressure for the windshield washer fluid? When I pull on the wiper stalk I hear the pump but it barely spits anything out. It's just leaking back onto its self. Any ideas? Roch.
  16. I don't have programable memory seats. so I doubt that's it. Having said that, I have disconnected the battery for various fixes. Would that have anything to do with it? Thanks. Roch.
  17. Hi folks. This site has been a great help. I have my 996 running in tip top shape now and all the bugs worked out. Well.... except for one. I just noticed that my power mirrors are not working (both sides). it's a 2000 Carrera 4. Any ideas on where to start looking? Thanks gang! Roch.
  18. Thanks Paulspeed. Unfortunately, that does not reveal the inner "guts" of the mechanism that retracts the belt. Any other thoughts? Roch
  19. Thanks Loren! That answers that question. I am missing a couple of parts. Any idea how to unlock the seat belts? I popped off the covers to reveal the inner workings and it looks like a swiss watch in there! There seems to be a piece (white) that sits on the outside of the sprocket. On that piece is a small counter weight that actualtes a small lever that locks into place to prevent unwinding. I'm not sure of the position of this piece. Any help is appreciated. Roch.
  20. Hi there Porsche fans, I am piecing back together a 2000 996 Carrera 4 and need help with the rear seat backs. The hinge pin located on the center tunnel of car seems to be too short to mount both sides. Is there a piece that I'm missing (an adaptor or extension or something). Then the outer hinge, I could use a picture to show how that mounting bracket is put in. And then it looks like i'm missing both pins that hold and lock the seats in an upright position. Any idea where I could get those? or a part number? And finally, i am also re=installing the rear seat belts. Can someone tell me how the release the tension on the belts? they are all wound up and I can't pull them out. They seem locked in. Help! Thanks. Roch.
  21. Try www.oklahomaforeign.com. They buy wrecked Porsches and part them out, so chances are they have what you need. Thanks Dennis!
