  1. I changed the oil the weekend after purchase and used 10W-40 Mobil One which was recommended by an owners manual I found online for climates associated with living in the desert. I see no mention of anyone here using 10W-40 - hence my initial posting. Any feedback on this viscosity? I realize everyone has an opinion on oil brands - however I'm more interested in correct viscosity. Here's my .02 cents worth on oil brands.... I have several other cars and use Mobil One exclusively and have had tremendous success over the years. I am 39 and this Porsche is my 47th vehicle. Others currently include: 1991 Miata - many performance enhancements 10W-30 Mobil One 125K miles 1998 Isuzu Rodeo - many off-road enhancements 10W-30 Mobil One 178K miles 2005 Mercedes C320 - stock Mobil One 0W-40 70K miles 2007 Suzuki XL-7 - stock Mobil One 5W-30 11K miles 2002 Jeep Wrangler - off road monster 10W-30 Mobil One 76K miles
  2. I purchased 2001 986 Boxster 2.7L - the air bag light is on. The code reads "passenger ignition circuit" - I was told this is related to the pressure switch in the passenger seat. Any idea what this code really is? If it's in fact the pressure switch where do I find it and/or suggested repairs? The Bentley's manual says the pressure switch is part of the heated seat harness / assembly. I don't have heated seats. Please help. Thanks, Phil
  3. That's just it....no one seems to provide a clear answer only opinions. What does the owners manual recommend?
  4. Again I've read several posts concerning oil with no solid conclusions. I have a 2001 986 Boxster 2.7L and no owners manual. What is the recommended oil weight? The online manual suggests 10W-40 in desert climate - I live in Las Vegas. Suggestions? Also have the infamous engine "tick" - suggested weight / viscosity? Thanks.
  5. I've read several posts on here concerning the engine "tick" with very mixed conclusions. I installed new performance headers this weekend and after installation now I have the infamous VW engine "tick". If I remember correctly and it's been a few years since I owned one but this was pretty common in the earlier 911's. It was common and expected. I now have a 2001 Boxster 986 2.7L. The tick is always there and increases with frequency with RPM but no volume or pitch change. The car runs like a champ and I'm enjoying the additional HP. Is the tick common and expected from the Boxster? Thanks!
  6. Again just purchased an '01 Boxster with 89K miles. Whenever I purchase a new toy I like to give it the once over whether it needs it or not - I'm just picky that way but has served me well over the past 15 years and 40+ autos. I've had an '83 Porsche 928S but that was different technology. I am accustomed to flushing the motor with an over the counter moter flush available at any parts store before my first oil change. It's a great way to loosen up the sludge, etc. I'd like to know if anyone would discourage a motor flush for the Boxster and why? I flushed my '05 Mercedes when I bought it last year and had great results - german=german? LOL thanks!
  7. I just purchased a 2001 Boxster with one key and the remote is completely trashed. The transponder "pill" is intact and the car still starts and runs fine. The dealer wants a ton of $$$ to replace the remote and key blade, etc. There are a lot of used remotes and key blanks for sale online. Is it difficult to reprogram the remote and how is it done? I understand I will have to relocate the existing "pill" and blade to the new (used) remote head. I don't mind paying the dealer to reprogram another key but if I can program the remote myself that would be great. Thanks!
