  1. Great write-up...any idea where I can buy a replacement CD reader from? My one is dead :(
  2. It's to a joke about how the Germans pronouce Porsche - i.e. Porsch-A sounds like Porker (from a brit!)
  3. One on behalf of a friend with a 996. When we were on a slight hill and he pulled off up the hill in 1st gear I heard a groaning noise coming from the back of the car. Everything seems fine with the clutch (doesn't appear to have a judder in pulling away) and when I tried it the car felt smooth. Went back to the hill afterwards and we recreated the noise. On the hill believe he was on the brake and went straight to the clutch/accelerator - I cannot recall him using the handbrake and getting to biting point before releasing the handbrake...but he may have done ? Is this a clutch issue ? Noise lasted for about 1-2 seconds as we moved off then disappeared. TIA.
  4. Thank you - this is really helpful :)
  5. Thanks Wross I'll give that a shot. Thank you for all your kind help.
  6. Is this a laptop based thing or something I can do at home? (willing to try anything!!!) I'm wondering whether the CD reader laser has failed or perhap's the motor which turns the cd has stopped working? PS No other issue apart from sat nav (yes it can play audio cd)
  7. It's the original disk - which I've also copied and tried (to eliminate the disc element).
  8. Thanks for the response - the car is a 1998 I'm guessing a specialist will need to check those fault codes?
  9. Hello Everyone, Hoping someone can help a noob. I find that when my 996 c2 alarm is engaged and someone tries (say) the drivers door handle, the next time (could be a few mins later) I disengage the alarm the drivers door will not open (from the inside or outside). You have to get in through the passenger side, put the car ignition on and put the door lock on, then unlock it with the internal handle. The issue also happens on the passenger side. Is this a known issue? Thanks in advance. Steve
  10. Hello Everyone, Can someone please help me? My recently purchased 996 (1998) has PCM 1, however everytime I go to use the Sat Nav it says "CD is Upside Down" even though its not ? Does anybody know of a fix? (I've copied the sat nav disc and tried it on a new one and that doesn't work). Thanks for your help. Steve
