  1. Trying to follow the DIY instructions for replacing the air filter and I got stuck. I can't get the air cleaner housing off since I can't get the MAF conncector off. The instructions say to squeeze the sides but it won't budge. There doesn't seem to be anything to squeeze. I've tried to pull and nothing. I'm afraid to break it. Can anyone give me the secret? Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone....another question. I've got a 2000 C4 Millenium edition with the stock chromed wheels. The center caps with the porsche logo are also chrome. I want to replace these center caps with chrome ones that have the full color logo. I think they look better. Suncoast sells the full color logo caps but it does not seem that they are chrome. Anyone know where I can find a set? Thanks much!
  3. Hi Everyone: Wondering if anyone else here have experienced this issue... After handwashing m 2000 C4 the other day, I opened the driver's side door to clean the floormats. I noticed that the area right around the gas pedal was wet along with some of the carpeting covering the drive axle hump. It clearly suggests that water had been dripping down and collecting near the gas pedal. Sound familar to anyone? In looking at the base of the windshield, nothing seems out of order. Certainly no obvious holes/cracks. Help!
  4. Hi everyone: About to embark on my first oil change since buying a 2000 C4 with 47,000 miles. THe DIY tutorial is fantastic but I need some clarifications. 1: what's the consensus on new oil. I know that Mobil 1 synthetic is the factory fill but I've also read in this forum that the Castrol Syntec may be a better choice and may help to prolong any impending RMS failures since its got more anti-friction compounds in it. 2: This question relates to the procedure of jacking up the rear of the car to get access to change the filter. If I put jack stands on both sides in the rear I would think that with the car leaning forward, I'm not going to get all the oil out. Please don't tell me to jack up all fours. If I do need to get all four wheels off the ground, what is the correct order for jacking. 3. Can anyone post a pic of a leaking RMS or just where the bearing is in relation to the rest of the car. I've got a small leak in the rear, seemingly under the AC compressor but its hard to tell without jacking up the car. I hope its not the RMS. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone. First of all, I just want to say that this is simply a fantastic forum filled with knowledgeable people willing to share their P-car experiences. Great for a novice. I recently bought a 2000 C4 Coupe with PCM (navigation system) and 6 disc CD changer under the hood. My question has to do with the radio. Is it just me or is it just a terrible design? I also need to mention that the previous owner has installed an amplifier and satellite radio under the hood as well. I checked the wiring of the amp and it seems to be wired correctly, at least according to the wiring diagram that came with it. So here are my issues: 1. the fader/balance control on the radio do nothing. Sound only comes from the front (dash/door) speakers 2. there doesn't seem to be a really low volume setting (that is, you can turn the volume all the way down and you can still hear music). Very odd. 3. the rear speakers only seem to kick in when the volume is really loud. They are certainly not working at normal listening levels. More odd. 4. how is it possible to just have the navigation map "on" but not the radio. I just want to be able to navigate but not have any music playing. The only way to turn on the map is to press the radio "on" button which also (of course) turns the radio on. Pressing the "Map" button does nothing without the radio on first. Then I get music with my GPS!! A related question is has anyone upgraded the PCM to a higher version. Apparently is costs ~$300 or so at the dealer. Can anyone confirm that it's worth it? I'm kinda of leaning towards the upgrade since the current GPS is quite slow and has limited resolution. Any help with all these questions is much appreciated. Jimmy
  6. PerryinVA: Best site ever....thanks for the tip. I suddenly feel my wallet getting lighter.... Thanks!
  7. Hi everyone. Can anyone recommend a site online where to buy a set a front/rear floormats for a 2000 C4? The ones I have now have no markings on them but I doubt they're original since they don't quite fit well. They're a little ratty as well. Thanks! Jimmy 2000 C4 Millenium 46,000 miles
  8. Hi Everyone: I'm a rather new owner of a 2000 C4 - Millenium and was wondering was the general opinion was on driving this car in the wintertime. I'm planning to use it as a daily driver (more or less) during the non-winter months but would also like to drive it on cold and snowy days here in the Mid-Atlantic? I'm mainly concerned with traction with the current rubber (I've got 18" PZeros all around), ride height, and salt and road grime. Is there anything else? Any owners out there regularly drive their 911's in the snow during the winter? I actually have seen a few driving around recently (even with their tops down!!) after our big snowstorm but haven't been able to see if they're running snow tires. Thanks a lot.
  9. Just a question. Have you gotten an estimate on this work? Private garage or dealer? Just wondering what this job is worth if I ever need to do it. Thanks in advance!
  10. Hi...just reading your post and was wondering if you could direct me to the DIY site you referenced for changing the plugs, etc. Thanks!!!
  11. Thanks for the suggestion. I bought the Recaro Vivo Lite and yes, its fits very well. As the other post mentioned, removing the seat backs would give me some additional room. Can anyone out there tell me how to do this. I took a quick look and it seem that the center hinge point needs to be removed first. Thanks in advance! :renntech:
  12. Hi everyone: I've combed all the forums but still cannot seem to get a straight answer as to which car seat fits in the back seat of a 2000 911 (millenium...) for a 3 year old girl. I see many posts indicating that the Britax seats work but I can't find which model. The ones I've tried are still too wide (max width is about 12 inches). I've already bought and returned 3 seats and the wife is getting impatient.... I'm looking for the make/model of car seats/convertible seats/booster seats that will fit a 30 lb+ 3 yr old girl (forward facing). Ohh and the porsche custom seat just really is not an option. Too expensive. HELP! Spring is coming and I can't wait to get out there with the family in tow. Thanks! Jimmy 2000 911 Millenium US East Coast.
