  1. Hate to post a stupid question but what exactly do you mean by firmness? I haved the same car (2000 Carrera 4) and the clutch engages right at the top of the travel. It doesn't slip but I take this to mean that I need a new clutch. However, the clutch travel seemingly is pretty standard...not light or "heavy". This is why I am asking what do you mean by "firm" Thanks!
  2. Hi: I have been using the Recaro Vivo for a few years now. Before I installed it, I removed the leather seat and the backrest from the car. I would not say the fit is perfect, but its very good. Without removing these two items, I would say it would be difficult to install this particular car seat. Hope this helps.
  3. Hi there I just finished this job on my 2000 Carrera 4 last week. They were so corroded that i just ended up buying a new pair from Suncoast. I tried soaking them in oil, but quickly resorted to an angle grinder. Literally 5 minute job this way. And i could have reused the clamp and juust bought new bolts, but i wanted a shiny new clamp sleeve in the end. Hope this helps.
  4. Thanks, I also thought the ROW M030 option looks like the best option, but I was concerned about whether it drops the car a bit (I heard it does), and whether I really need new sway bars. Any thoughts?
  5. Hi Everyone: I have a 2000 Carrera 4 which I am very happy with. Trying to do most of the maintenance myself, but I outsource the difficult jobs to a local indie who I trust (at least with other German vehicles). The upcoming jobs are clutch and suspension, both which have not been changed. The car has 65,000 miles on it. Regarding the clutch, while in there, I'll have them replace the RMS which is leaking a little it seems. After it comes back, I would like to install the 997 shift kit to make things a bit more fun, or at least thats what I've heard. My question is really about the sus

  7. Hi everyone: Spent the weekend changing my oil and spark plugs. The posts here were really helpful. For anyone thinking of changing their plugs WITHOUT removing the mufflers, don't even think about it. The mufflers were a breeze to remove. I've actually wanted to replace the clamps for a while (due to age) and so did that as well. Anyway, I've had this recurrent oil leak from the rear of the car, passenger side. I've attached a photo of where I believe the leak is coming from. It appears to be from the gasket around this sensor (where the black wire terminates). The photo was taken fr
  8. Balefire...thank you for the clarification. Very helpful. There is just one thing that I still don't get. Hopefully this doesn't come across as obtuse.... Fronts: Got it...I need a 7mm spacer to bring the offset in line with my current OE setup. No questions. Rear: Is the issue one that my current wheel is 10 inches wide versus the 11" wide wheel that I want to buy. It's not a tire issue then? I figured that mounting the correct tire size (295/30) and playing with the offset would work. What if I go with 285's. I guess I have to keep looking for the Carrera I wheels made for the 9
  9. yes, that is the relay box. As Loren says, third from the left...the big black one. Swap it out for the one that works with LEDs. I bought mine from superbrightleds.
  10. Found another set of the same tires! I really love the 5 spoke design and I like the fact that they are not chrome as on my 2000 C4 So, the new set are the same as the other ones I found (I guess people don't like them): 235/40/18 ET 57 295/35/18 ET 51 Interersting how Oggie says the correct tire fitment is 245/40 and 295/30. So, if I buy these I'll need a 7mm spacer up front and 13 mm spacer in the rear. Can anyone confirm this? Thank you!
  11. Agreed...a good job for a saturday...couple of questions though... 1. I have one of those small pancake type air compressors used for nail guns...would that do the job with the airlift. Its a pretty small tank. 2. What are the right depth sockets 3. So, no silicone on the gasket? Seems like cheap insurance. 4. Lastly, what do you mean that the "new WP are 4 revs newer"? Thanks! Confidence is growing.
  12. Ouch! I was just quoted "about $1200" from Porsche (Arlington, VA) and a little less from my indie to do the water pump. The indie did say, that that price included a new thermostat and serpentine belt. Still.... I want to tackle this job...seems easy enough...I just don't like the "supporting the engine" bit, as explained in DIY Loren's writeup.

  14. I'm also going to be replacing the water pump + LT thermostat before spring. I'll be buying the parts and going to my local mechanic to install them. I also want to provide the Porsche coolant. Any idea how many 1 gallon jugs I'll need for a complete coolant flush? Thanks! Greg

  17. Thanks everyone....I used a clay bar this time with Mother's detailing spray and it looks like it all came off. You can actually hear the difference between the the parts of the bodywork that are "clean" and the parts that have an overspray coating. Pretty amazing. Car looks totatly different now.   18. Hi again everyone So the other day i drove to the local supermarket and parked my 2000 Millenium edition at the far end, away from the entrance. I normally don't do this, but it was just washed and i wanted to keep it clean. To my surprise, i come out with some groceries and i find a guy parked a couple of spots down spraying some wood pieces with spray paint and the slight wind was carrying some of the white paint over my way. After letting him know what a complete idiot he was I left and went home to survey the damage. So the one side of my car and the hood now have a very faint but

  20. Hi everyone: Going to be tackling a spark plug change in the near future. Bought all the required parts and was ready to start by removing the mufflers to make it easier....and.....it seems that I can't get the muffler clamps off either side! They are rusted pretty bad. Totally ruined the momentum. The car is a 2000 C4. I wanted to order new clamps from Pelican(?). They seem somewhat expensive but I guess what isn't. The model number I believe is 996-111-220-01. My real question is aside from drowning the bolts in lubricating oil, it is safe to use a propane torch on them? Any oth
  21. Just an update to this thread. I ended up installing 4 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus tires and I can't believe the difference from my older, worn PZero's. I know All-Season's are a comprimise, but since I use the car as a daily driver in DC, to me anyway, they made the most sense. They've actually made my commute that much more enjoyable....especially at this time of the year!
  22. Can someone please indicate where the turn signal relay is housed. I bought one to eliminate the hyperflash of the new LED bulbs and thought it was in the fusebox in the footwell. Nope, not there. Alas, i cant find it.
