  1. So I presume is an urban legend the matter of the reconfiguring of the throttle body settings at the PC, I've the official dealer so far. I remeber "no touch the throttle butterfly" Thanks for your kind help
  2. Thanks Loren, my idea was to clean the throttle body for the next oil service. Just a question, can I open the butterfly by my fingers to clean the two sides or I risk to reprogram the e-gas. I've the intake spray cleaner but I prefer the "finger solution". I remember it was possible on the first 996 but I don't know if it works on 997.
  3. Hello to everyone, just a curiosity about the minimum rpm after a cold start (garage temp.20°C - 68°F). My 3.6 997.1 started near 1200 rpm then, when warm, settles regular idle near 1000 rpm steady. I remember the last time I drove it (few weeks ago) after a cold start it was near 800 rpm. What is the right idling speed for a M96.05 engine? May be my Carrera has a throttle body problem? Thanks!!! Peppe
  4. Hello to everyone from the crazy Italy, few days ago, I talked with my POC in order to book a minor service. As I use my Carrera especially during spring and summer with continuous heavy use, lots of acceleration with low average speeds in an extremely hot climate. For this reason, my idea is to change the stock M1 0w40 with the M1 5w50 . The boss of POC, told me that the engine runs best with the 0w40 because the 5w50 gives problem to VarioCamPlus system, increases fuel consumption and reduce engine power. As mechanical engineer, I can be in agreement with him but, in the other hand, my experience and also other authoritative sources, suggest to use the best 5w50. What do you think about? Most important, anyone using the 5w50 on his 997? With wich results? Thanksssssssss
  5. Hello from Italy, yesterday inspecting the conditions of the ritual RMS leakage on my 997 3.6, I noticed some blue spots near the attack of the exhaust manifold of the right bank. I enclose a photo: I thought that it might be residual of anti-seize compounds used in the assembling. What do you think about it? Thanks
  6. Hello, firstly thanks for your initial help. Please note that photos do not show my car. I've found them in internet so I used because they show the missing part. The missing part, is the gray plastic cover indicated by the red arrow on the first photo. It is better enlarged on the second photo. I would like to know its part number as well as the part number of the pollen filter housing. My 2005 Carrera Coupè mount this type of cabin filter box. Now I ask you, the recent Carreras, I mean those produced from 2006 onwards, are eqipped with a different cabin filter box (housing & cover)? It's an important detail, because maybe that the Carreras built during 2004-2006, were equipped with the cabin filter box ref. 997.572.529.00, and after thay have mounted a new type of housing covered with the grey plastic piece. Maybe after he noticed about the problem regarding the excessive amount of condensation on the windshield after raining or washing, Porsche engineers decided to redesign the pollen filter box. Please check if there's a different part number of the pollen filter housing. P.S. As regard the strut brace, I totally agree with you. I am a structural engineer and I can assure you that the 997 Carrera requires any stiffening bar on the front. It's a toy only for those who have money to spend unnecessarily. Greets from Southern Italy
  7. Hello everyone, I have a problem on my Carrera 3.6 of 2005. After washing, the windshield fogs up in an unusual way. I found that this happens because the absence of the cover of the pollen filter. This part has been forgotten or lost, in the past during a service. May be they have forgotten to put the part in its place, it's so important because the particular function. The filter absorbs water and transmits the steam in the cabin and must be replaced because loses its shape. In practice, on my car, after removing the filter compartment cover, the element appears directly instead of the grey rectangular shaped cover (as shown in attached photos). Please could anyone tell me the part number of this cover. Could anyone kindly checks on his Carrera because I didn't find it on my PET file. Unfortunately last week PCS ordered a wrong part (external cover) so my problem wasn't solved. They have misunderstood what I needed. Thanks.
  8. Hello from Italy, I need of your kind opinion about a strange bad smell from my 997 clutch. This's my third Porsche, all the time manual (Boxster S, 996 3.4, 997 3.6) and never happened, never felt a bad smell like it. This afternoon I stopped halfway down a slope. After starting with engine near 3000-max3500rpm (I was furious because I has been fined by a stupid drunk cop, I must pay 380 euro), I smelt clutch bad smell (never felt before today). I know very well it was the stressed clutch, but IMHO I think it's very strange. I was driving down so starting must be helped by gravity. But putting aside this detail, I wish to know if a fast (and furious) starting, can generate a great level of clutch overheating and in your expert opinion, if my clutch has suffered damage (I think no). Thanks in advance for your opinions and experiences.
  9. Hello guys, I'm writing from Italy and I need of your kind help. In the next days I will replace the tyres on my 2005 Carrera so I need of Aluminium Paste (Optimoly TA) to lube the wheel bolts, as suggested in owner manual. In Italy is impossible to find the product called Optimoly or Optipaste TA. A friend of mine, told me that Porsche shop has a similar product (150 grammes tube). Can you help me with OEM part number or with the name of similar product or grease. Thanks!!
