  1. Thanks - I didn't fully understand that part initially (got just the faceplate cover with the icons coming off first) - so got a really fine tipped screwdriver to dig down in that gap (didn't look like a gap with my old eyes!). Pried it open and all worked fine. Thanks for the comeback. Glenn
  2. I've seen the posts, etc for changing the light switch but there must be a trick. I have a 2000 C4 cab - chainging light switch. Got vent off, unhooked, large nut off - now the 'slight clockwise twist' to remove switch. it doesn't twist enough to get the legs out and afraid i'll bust the plastic if i gronk on it. Is there a tab or something to release the twisting action? Thanks
  3. Thanks Loren - i'm pretty sure the guy that works on my porsche has a duramatic so will be in touch touch with him next week. Any 'common' alarm issues i could check in the mean time?
  4. 2000 C4 - all of a sudden this afternoon the remote lock/unlock stopped working on key fob and when the key fob button is held down i get two short beeps on horn????? Tried my second key (wife's) and exactly same thing (including the 2 horn beeps) so don't think its key programming as i've read on key remote searches. Keys work fine in manual (putting key in lock). Thoughts?
  5. Thanks Maurice and ratdog33!! I'll do the checks suggested to verify before purchase. Glenn
  6. Have a 2000 C4 Cab. Searched and read topics on this issue - Opening Driver Door, window starts to come down but not enough to clear the top (maybe 1/4"). I can manually push it down the extra 1/4" and reclose door and window will move up automatically for a tight fit. I used the forum and did the test of raising the window to top and trying to push down and it was firm. So I'm thinking its the window regulator (please confirm diagnosis). My secondary question I didn't see answered is the cost/part number. Is this really the $250'ish part that needs replacing - noticed it comes without motor. Do I need a new motor too? (seems to be working fine). re: part number - can't seem to find one for a 2000 (found 2002)? Thanks
  7. Thanks Lauren - I'll start looking for that part number. The porscheoem website gave me: 996.615.103.00 ('615' in middle instead of your '6013') Guess I was getting misled again. gmorris552
  8. I'm still having intermittant wiper issues after replacing the rheostat (which was bad also). I suspect either the relay that the dealer put in is WRONG or bad. I pulled the intermittant relay and the part number is 986.615.103.00. I think from googling, etc this is for a Boxter and not a 996 C4. The other part number I've found on the web is the same number but starts with 996. Can anyone tell me if the "986" relay and "996" are interchangeable? I'm thinking I should order the 996 number. Thoughts?
  9. I will check those specific connections tonight - but looks like I'll be headed to purchase. Thanks so much for the diagnosis help - excellent simple directions that even I can follow! :D
  10. With your info - I was able to make sure the relay was seated. Retested and still have issue. I was able to pull the rheostat as you stated. It has 4 pins on the back side. I used a multimeter and took random samples with no changes. Are there specific pins I should check/compare? Also the part number on the piece was 996.613.115.00. You stated a slightly different (996.613.127.00.A02). Are they equivalent parts? Thanks so much for your help.
  11. A couple of pictures would definitely be helpful - I'm a visual guy! :D Also - Orient Express - where specifically should I look in Drivers footwell for the relays? Thanks all. g
  12. 2000 C4 - my intermittent wipers will not vary with the dial/rheostat. It wipes about every 6 seconds. Does this mean the rheostat dial is bad? If so - is there a way to remove/replace that rheostat without removing the dashboard?
  13. Thanks Lauren and dharn55. I will clear it and see what happens. I did look ahead in the Tech Manual about changing out the O2 sensor. It says to remove the whole CAT before removing the sensor. Is that true or can I just unplug and remove the sensor without taking the whole cat out? Also - where do you recommend picking up the durametric SW and PST2? Glenn
  14. I'm a newbie to forums so please take mercy. I have a 2000 Porsche C4. Long story but...recently put in a rebuilt motor (same size, etc) at same time changed out the CATs (and all 4 O2 sensors) since some oil had gotten through the old ones. Have had some CEL issues since. was getting the P1128/P1130's - so thought the new CATs and/or O2 sensors were bad. Talked with the CAT supplier and he agreed to upgrade to the 'latest greatest' that were guanteed not to give a CEL. Well...after about 80 miles I got a CEL so dutifully searched the forum and saw the comments about the MAF so I took that out and cleaned it (with MAF Cleaner). Now I make it about 150'ish miles and get a CEL P1276. Have done this twice. I clear the CEL and start tracking it over - only get the 1276 and not bank #1, so can I rule out the MAF? It would be wierd to be a bad O2 sensor since all of them are only about 5,000 miles old. Also - I'm using the simple CodeKey Engine code reader - when I clear the P1276 - am I setting all the diagnostics back to default? (i.e. can I be masking that I may be about to get another code?). Ideas?
