  1. I guess if I ensure my over-all dimensions remin the same I could run the 19"?
  2. I wanted to share this with you guys as a followup: I ended up talking to Spencer of Fuchs performance group. He confirmed that the 19" wheels should be ready to order in the next few weeks. He indicated that the 18" wheels will be ready about the first of next year. He seemed to think that putting the 19 " wheels on my 03 C4 Cap would be just fine, though I have read on this site that it is not a "good" idea? Additional comments on this solicited. One attraction is that when it is time to upgrade to a 997 I might be able to just swap the wheels from one car to the other (with spacers for the rear). I asked him about his wheel compared to the Ruger wheel, he was quick to tell me that he is suing the company for patent infringement and further more the Ruger wheel he tested was of poor quality e.g. mating surface out of plane causing a wobble. His product is also American made forged wheel produced by APP Forging, compared with the Ruger being Chinese Cast. Seemed like a nice enough guy well spoken and knowledgeable. I can not attest or verify the accuracy of these claims, just sharing the conversation FWIW. The Ruger wheel set retails for ~$1500 Fuchs FP-1 Retail price ~$5200. Anyone have experience (advice) with putting the Ruger Classic on a 996 C4? I might go with the new Fuchs 18", or 19" when they become available, for now my goal is to be as informed as possible. Thanks guys!
  3. Hi Guys, I sure like the look of the Fuch wheels I saw in Excellence magazine. Question: does anyone have any experience with theses new wheels? I am entertaining the thought of new wheels for my 03 C4 Cab. Any thoughts, experiences, opinions, etc. solicited. Thanks Greg
  4. Cell, sounds like a great deal...you must have done it yourself...if not...where did you take it and are there more of those dealers around? Thanks..Chumly +1 please share
  5. here in Roseville, Ca I have had the top down all week. enjoying 60 + american degrees. Love it! Cheers!!
  6. followup. Picked the car up and received a detailed write up of potential watch items, no charge. Nothing significant. As far as the top, the technician said he was inspecting all the components and all looked good except the need for topping off the fluid which he did no charge. Top works great now! Still like to see what a reasonable replacement would be, but for the present I am pretty satisfied.
  7. Decided to take my dealer up on the offer of a free inspection for my new to me 03 C4 Cab, getting a glimpse of the service records was also a motivator for me. The top comes up slow, stalls whirrs and moves again, thinking it might be low on fluid I went to the parts counter for the Porsche approved fluid thinking I would be more than prepared if I got everything open and needed to top off the system. A technician came out about that same time (convenient, but lets not get suspicious) and told me that they could run some codes for free and give me an over all opinion on the state of the car. Out of curiosity I asked what a new top costs? The reply---"about $8000.00 installed. Talk about an "up sell" WOW !!!???? Is this for real? I was thinking $2 maybe $3K but $8000.00 that seems out of hand. So my question: What is a reasonable cost for a new top? Any other tips are comments appreciated. I get the car back in a couple of days so I will be sure to have a follow up. TIA
  8. Drove back from Sedona to Roseville, Ca the other day in my 03 C4 and noticed severe feathering on the rear tires (Sumitomo tires), with the worst being on the left rear. I had correct tire pressure. Any thoughts on the cause? Alignment?
  9. Me too....well where is the best place to buy that clutch :-) Cheers guys!
  10. Agreed, not worth the wear and tear and I am in no way going to go out and abuse ny new baby, but now I want a ride in DC's car!! I am amazed at how well these cars hook up! Cheers GK
  11. Ok, aside from being responsible, adult, proper and civilized I do enjoy hearing the occasional "chirp" as I muscle from 1 to 2nd gear. My 530i does this no problem. My new, to me, 2003 996 C4 pulls strong and the clutch seems fine as well, but no "chirp". All kidding aside, does this car have so much foot print that it precludes "busting 'em loose"? Just curious... B)
  12. can you tell me a bit about your wheels. Are they stock wheels and polished? They look great
  13. + 1 on the Simple Green. Orient gave me this tip some time ago. A lot of that gunk will rinse off. I like to spray on the Simple Green on the wheels and rotors and let it sit while I wash the rest of the car. Make sure you rinse the wheels and rotors thoroughly with a strong jet of water. I also have a 4hp vacuum that is a warm air blower as well. It has a very strong blast of air and will get rid of all most all the residual water on the rotors. Then when I pull it into the garage there are just a few drops to wipe off. I'm a real freak about clean wheels... Well I tried simple green and the blower and that worked great. But your wheels are super sharp! Not over done, just the right touch of polish.
  14. Thaks guys. Neighbor has a good technique. After washing he uses the leaf blower to dry the wheels. Going to give that a shot.
  15. Any idea what this might be (see pic) and how to prevent it. right after I wash the car and drive it I have this goop on the wheels. looks like rust and is wost on the front. TIA
  16. my .02 I just sold a wonderful low mileage 2007 530i I picked up in Germany on a ED deal. I got my current 2003 high mileage C4 cab. to replace it (yes, I pocketed a bunch of money). My SO thought me crazy. Now she is on board, the P car is more a life style meeting people making friends talking and fretting about this or that. The 530i was almost too perfect and "white bread". No risks in jumping in the beemer and going to the market. With the new car I might swap ends in the rain, get in a race with a kid, or just get a nice look from a hot girl. Not much of that going on driving my 530i. Life is short take some risks and enjoy.
  17. Super, I did oder the ragg top kit and will try. Other than that, I would really like to see a new top on this old car. So much rather talk about cab tops than RMSs :P . 'course that will probably jinx me. B)
  18. Thanks, I used a shampoo that the Porsche dealer sold me. Seemed to clean the dirt really well, but the stains are there and it just looks dingy next to the paint that is in great shape. Would Ragg Topp cleaner give me different results than Porsche wash shampoo?
  19. I have a 2003 996 in seal grey with a grey top that is in ok condition. No holes just creases, abrasions and creases. Toying with the idea of replacement. saw some tops on the net for about 500+ $ that claim are made from the original material type. Questions: Would putting a black top be odd for this color car? i.e. was it an option? In the Roseville, Sacramento area is there a specialist that anyone might recommend. Oh and any idea on cost? Recently purchased and enjoying this high mileage car (76000 Miles) but would not mind sprucing up the old girl's look. Tips, experience etc. appreciated, did a search and did not see anything specific.. TIA Greg
  20. Hey guys. Just joined and am learning a lot for all the posts. I just bought a 2003 C4 6 speed cab with 68000 miles for $25k. It had most of the records and a recent mechanical inspection. I hope this turns out to a great experience. so far so good.
