  1. Does anyone know what lip is on his bumper because 2 board members are interested, thanks. :help:
  2. I am new to the Porsche world but I own a 996 C2, Audi S4 and previously owned many japanese imports with many jdm parts and I 'm in the process of building a 94 Honda civic vx hatch with a Acura/Honda K20A2 2.0 engine fully built. I am in the import performance business and have always found the term "rice" only apply to "Fast & Furious" fans with cosmetic and sound enhancements as the primary gold. Besides "ricey" is an insult targeting japanese import fans not german or domestic built cars. We would be called "sour krauters" :D . By the way what front spoiler is on that guys GT3 bumper?
  3. The best way to express my feelings about this mod is :jump: :jump: :jump: . This is my first mod on my 01 996 c2 and I am so glad I did it. I knew I would have to deal with the louder tranny noise but it is one small price to pay for the performance gain. The car feels so much quicker from take off and that's were the 3.4 needs a bit of power. I highly recommend this mod but beware of the slight clutch chatter sound you get at idle when the clutch is not engaged. I am also looking to buy an exhaust, intake & chip combo and headers and will dyno each mod back to back. I have done plenty of searching on this forum and other Porsche related forums and the back pressure loss argument is about 50/50. I have heard of many so called butt dyno feedbacks but I want a better idea for myself and other engine performance enthusiasts . I understand that the 3.4 does not have much more to work with but I was told the same about my Honda S2000 and with pricey parts and dyno runs I found 25 more horses from the 2.2 F22c motor. I also understand the debate about consistant dyno runs but as long as I get an average gain I will be happy. Wish me luck.
  4. I recently had my motor replaced at Boardwalk Porsche because of the RMS leak. They quoted me at $1100 but when they measured the crank they found a bit of play so they said my motor was heading for the grave. I had no warranty but they covered 75% so I paid about $2800 for a fresh crate motor from Porsche and I now have a 2 year warranty on the labor and motor. I also had them install a Stillen light weight flywheel(13lbs) and the car feels so much more responsive! Talk to Sid in service and tell her Anthony from HDA Autosports sent you, she will work with you on the price, just bargain. I have my own shop and try to work on most of my own cars or have my mechanic look at it but I was very pleased with the work and respect I got from Boardwalk and to top it all off they gave me a 06 Boxster for a loaner. Good luck with your car.
  5. Thanks for the response guys. I will look into Porsche helping with the bill but in the worst case I guess I will do further research and post my complete swap info if I go that route.
  6. I might be in need of a new motor for my 01 C2 and I have no warranty so before I go looking for another 3.4 does anyone know if a 3.8 from a new 997s will work or what major mods would be needed for the swap. I heard of the work that Roock has performed for Boxsters but have not heard of any 996 motor swaps. There are a couple of 997s motors here in Texas so I can get a good price on one. I also would like to use the newer tranny but I'm not sure if there are significant performance differences. I promise I have searched but found nothing relating to my question.
  7. Will this happen often or once a blue moon? Is there anything to prevent it? Kind of embarrassing if I'm out somewhere and my pricey speed yellow Porsche puffs out more smoke then a 70's Pinto. I guess I can tolerate it in my driveway early morning but out in public on a Saturday night is kind of :(
  8. Thanks so much to everyone who has replied. I have started the car about three seperate times today and have not seen any smoke. They were all cold starts but not as cold as a overnight park. I guess I'll wait and see what happens this week and I will check my oil level.
  9. The car has no mods and I seldom hit redline. It is my daily driver and its running Mobil 1 synthetic. I do get on it at times but not to frequent. The tint of the smoke was more white but had a light blue tint to it. The first time this happened I had a check engine light and my mass air sensor was bad so I replaced it. Ever since the new mass air sensor I have not seen this and that was three months ago. On my 30,000mi service Porsche techs found no problems or told me of any problems to look for so I've been pretty relaxed with my car. I guess I will drive it with precaution until I see it occur again. Do you think that is wise or should I take it in for a check up? I feel without the problem occurring during the check up that I'll just be stuck with a service charge but if it happens to me again then I will push them to find the problem.
  10. Started my car this morning and I almost sharted in my jeans because large clouds of smoke blew out of my exhaust. It only lasted for a second but the one puff that came out was basically enough to cover the car! Can someone tell me if this has happened to them and what I must do to aid my baby. I have a 2001 996 c2 with 36,000mi and a 30,000mi service under its belt. I understand that going to a Porsche service department would be best for her but as long as I have a heads up on would could be the problem I can feel more secure with there diagnosis. :help:
  11. I have a 2001 996 with gt3 sideskirts and taco wing which I love but unfortunately stock front bumper. I need some feedback on were to find a good replica gt3 bumper or a used gt3 oem bumper. I know that Getty Design makes them but how is the quality for a street car? I really want to avoid any other styles because I love the older gt3 style and I'm not a fan of mixing kits. Please if anyone knows a good reliable company or have a friend that is willing to part with there bumper please let me know. :help: :help: by the way I meant to title the thread advice  (fixed - Loren)
  12. Thanks for the reply c928jon, I will do a complete inspection of my engine bay and look for those possible problems. I see this forum is as helpful as the S2k international forum, thank you all for your quick and helpful tips
  13. Loren thanks for the reply, the car does not smoke any more. It had one puff at wide open throttle and never came out again until the car was shut off and restarted. After that it was ok. When I reset the code and pushed it hard there was no smoke. Are there any pics of the parts you are talking about or is there a source with diagrams to help me find the locations of these parts?
  14. I just bought a 01 911 2 with 30,000 miles. I love this car and always been a big fan of Porsches. Today while driving my baby I had my cel light come on and before I could go back to my shop I gave it some hard acceleration and on a 5th gear shift a large cloud of smoke came out. I jumped off the gas took it easy and went back to my shop to plug in my scanner. I got the p1128 and 1130 codes and have already done a search but I saw no one mention the smoke. Please tell me this was just a lean mixture that caused this and nothing serious got hurt. My car idles at 760rpm and one board member said 680 is normal. Is this my problem or is 760rpm normal? When I started my car again there was a cloud of dark smoke but since a quick drive and reset I have not seen any smoke. Please help! Also note that my Idle does not surge up and down.
