  1. they sell just the reflector that can be taped onto the back of a C2. search the internet for this!

    Jason

I have a 99 c2 cabriolet and would really like to add the horizontal reflector on the trunk that that C4s has. However, it doesn't look like it's possible to do this right on a narrow-body. I don't have a C4s at my disposal to do a side-by-side comparison, but the things that concern me are:

    1) Trunk design - the C4s appears to have an indented lip on the bottom of the trunk lid for the red reflector, whereas my C2 trunk does not. This means that I would have to replace the whole trunk frame to make the reflector look right. Is the trunk frame on a narrow-body C2 the same dimension as the trunk on a wide-body C4s?

    2) The rear tail lights on the C4s are different - rather than being smooth from top to bottom like the C2, there is an edge separating the upper and lower area. I assume that these tail lights do not fit a narrow-body C2. Therefore, even if I were able to install a C4s trunk lid, it would not match up well with the C2 taillights, right?

I'd really appreciate any clarification on the items above that anyone can offer. If it is in fact not possible to do this, is there an aftermarket alternative to accomplish the same thing?

    Thanks!

    John

  2. I have been lurkin on this forum and it's been a lot of help just by doing searches, but I've just hit a brick wall and need help, here goes:

The car is a 2002 Carrera 4S and we're trying to install a 996 GT2 wing. I got the engine bonnet and wing itself, the other hardwares the attaches the wing to the legs are on the way. My question is: can I use the C4S fan on the GT2 engine bonnet, is there a way to retrofit the bonnet so I can have the air duct at the correct side. We haven't taken the C4S bonnet apart just because we want all the information we need before dismantling it.

I hope somebody in here has done this mod. Any help is appreciated.

i don't think the oem gt2 wing fits the C4S. you have to get the one from www.mashaw.com, email the guy, he has one for the C4s. I'm getting it soon, i'll post pics once it's installed.

  3. hey, i had my car towed to the dealer on sunday and they found the cam actuator bad? they said it was a pretty big job to change but it was under warranty. can anybody tell me how a cam actuator goes bad? my car had around 10,300 miles on it.

    jason

did the car die? or was it a noise?

the car would stall out by it self a few times and a few times it was just too rough of an idle for me to leave it running.. like the entire car would vibration hard and the check engine light would flash...

i got the car back today. n/c since everything was under warranty.. also got an oil change, brake flushing, and my new carbon fiber steering wheel mounted... total on mastercard, 730 - 10% coupon service coupon = 650?

  4. hey guys!

bad news. i was in a really bad mood tonight and i think i broke something in my transmission...

i was at a light and when i saw it turn green, i decided a little gas will cheer me up... so i gunned it..

sadly, my mind must not have been paying attention since i must have let out the clutch before shifting completely into 2nd gear.... some of you knows what horriffic sound i hear next... clik lcikc lickkkciclicic....

uh... so tell me, did i break something???!?!?!?

i drove home without any problems and 2nd gear still works.. but i want to know the long term effects of this and if i need to get anything checked out...

    thanks for the advise!

    regards,

    jason

  5. 997S. I never paid any attention. With a GT3 I'm surprised to hear you ask, really. I wonder if there's a Hummer forum somewhere where they discuss MPG?! The metro area in which you reside will make a significant difference, especially if you deal with rush-hour traffic in a city like LA or SFO.

i must drive pretty "gas wastingly" since i only get 14mph in nyc and 23mph driving on the highway.

  6. There are trade-offs; if you want sticky tires that really handle well, then you will burn through them within 12k miles, less if you push the car. Sure you can find plenty of tires that will last longer, but you'll pay for it in performance big-time. Stick with good ones. Check out discount tire online to find the right tire and you may even save some money at the same time.

thanks for all the help guys!!

i was worried that it was a problem with my driving style for a while.. hehe.

    thanks!

  7. Can anyone tell me if it is normal to get the smell of burning rubber from the rear wheel arches after using car. Done it since iv,e had it , Checked tyres for catching, heating up binding brakes, & nothing amiss. The silencers are right behind so is it just bits of rubber burning on them, Baffled, No water leaks either, Drive belt seems fine too,

my car has the same problem. very strange..

  8. hey guys!

my 04 c4s is doing very well. however, it has around 8k miles now and i just noticed extreme tire wear, espeically for the rear tires.

i think i have maybe 1/3 of an inch remaining on the rear and about 1/2 of an inch remaining on the fronts. is this normal tire wear? i know the oem tires are pretty soft compound. is it because i am driving using the summer tires through the winter?

i was thinking about going with 19" techart rims, but any recommendations on tires that will last a little longer? i think i'm not too aggressive of a driver, but i guess i am? hehe, anyways, anybody else experience this? how many miles are you guys getting with your tires?

i think the worse tire wear i ever had as on potenza s-03s on my S55 that lasted me maybe 15k miles, but i think the rear on the porsche will only last me a few thousand more...

  9. o What are the long term effects on the lens, mirror and headlamp housing?

there should be no long term effect on the lens, mirror, and headlamp housing since OEM is designed to handle the HID heat.

    Any personal experiences?

HIDs use 35 Watt bulbs, supposedly produce less heat but output more light in the visible range.

o What are the effects on the beam pattern?

a GOOD set should produce the same beam pattern, even though the bulb is longer, the "light source" should be in the same location as normal halogen bulbs.

The HID bulbs are longer and therefore may mess up the beam pattern.

    What are your experienes?

from my experience with HID retrofit kits, since the entire headlamp pops out with a porsche, I'm not sure where you would mount your ballast. people usually mounts the ballast somewhere inside the engine compartment near the headlamp and OEM hid units mount the ballast inside the headlamp.

  10. a little offtopic but regarding clutch wear factor, between what range of rpms should i be at for normal driving? and how many rpms do you guys launch at (assuming at a normal red-light, not trying to race the guy next to you)?

i have a japanese friend who tells me he usually cruises around 3-4k rpms in his japanese little import, which appears to me kindof high.. and he also says he lauches at around 3-4k rpms too... my point of view was always launch at the lowest possible rpm without bogging down the engine to minimize engine wear. around 800-1.3krpms? and i usually cruise around 40mph in 4th gear, i think around 2k rpms? anybody? these questions are probably really newbie-ish, but sadly i'm still figuring out how to drive a manual car!

    thanks!

  11. hey,

i am getting a set of rims and tires and want to make sure they fit (don't want any disaster incidents here)

the wheels are oem 996 turbo rims

    FRONT P/N 996 362 136 04 SIZE 8X18 OFFSET 52mm

    REAR P/N 996 362 142 11 SIZE 8X11 OFFSET 45mm

and the tires are 225-40VR18 front and 265-35VR18 rear tires, Pirelli Winter 240 Snowsports

i know i should get 17" tires but it's so hard finding a set that fits. anyways, how does that setup sound? anybody tried hte pirelli set? they are suppose to be oem for porsche snow.

  13. Start driving right after you start the car. This lets the entire drivetrain warm up at the same time. If you start the car and let it idle, you're putting excess wear on your catalytic converters and the transmission and everything else are still cold.

thanks for all the advise guys!

i always let my car idle for a few minutes before i drive it (i thought it would be better, less wear) but apparently not. :help:

there has been times where i drive my porsche without warming it up and it never seems to drive right. have to rev is up a little higher than usual to get it started...

    help of this matter?

i mean, some people say never to idle your car while others say you should always idle your car. people who tell you to idle your car says it will wear less if you do and people who tell you not to idle your car says it will also wear less. hehe. :help:

  14. hey guys!

i was wondering if my 996 C4S with around 6.5k miles will do in the winter season in NYC. this is the first winter my porsche will be experiencing and does anybody have any good advise? like, i keep on feeling it is not designed for winter use. hehe. i mean, yesterday it dropped under freezing and i noticed that the LCD screen for the radio was kindof laggy while updating what it read. my amg mercedes never had a problem in the winter season, how reliable is my c4s for the winter?

    thanks.

    regards,

    jason

  15. Been there, done that, got the t shirt!

PSE, zero hp. Fabspeed/GHL probably a small gain.

Airbox, 1-4hp, a guy dynoed a fabspeed one awhile back (with BMC1 I believe). One guy actually lost power on a dyno with the evo box, who knows.

Really the best mod for a C4S is the X73 suspension, total transformation of the car into a very aggressive Mr Hyde. Usually go on sale a couple of times a yr. at Suncoast, Braman porsche at a descent price. Gert sells it too, but with the exchange his prices blow.

I may have a set of GHLs for a C4S if you're interested. PM me

    what is a GHL?

  16. hey guys!

this is kindof embarrasing to say but is an bmw m3 faster than a C4S? i'm probably not the greatest in manual shifting yet (since i just started 5 months ago with no formal training). i've kind-of raced 2 M3s recently. it seems that it's not that easy to chase after one, those things seem to handle as well as a c4s and seem just as fast in accelerating. anybody know whats going on? i know the specs are similar, but it's a porsche!

    thanks,

    jason
