  1. Good morning folks, I have a 2003 Boxster S in which I've recently installed a Kenwood DNX 8120. I presentely have the Navigation antenna placed under the plastic cover by the security light in the center of the dash. I plan to add Satellite radio to the unit and was trying to brainstorm as to the best place to install the satellite radio antenna. I'd like the install to be as stealth as possible. I've read of some people installing the antenna under the plastic cowling which houses the winshield wipers. This type of installation certainly is stealth, but does it impact reception? Any other cool ideas as to where this could be installed "out of sight" without compromising reception? Also, can I install the antenna on the dash without impeding reception? If I were to go this route, how far away from the GPS antenna would I need to be? Thanks in advance for your comments. VJH
  2. Trieu...What year is your Boxster? Model years 2003-2004, that have the CDR23 (6611-6612) have the Most optical rings. Do you remember the version of CDR you had? Here is the link that I used to dig this stuff up. http://www.beckerautosound.com/Porsche/Porsche%20Menu.html
  3. Hello folks....I've been contemplating the 4 stalk OBC and Cruise hack. I've ordered what I think are all the parts...and have scoured the boards for the most up to date information. My new steering wheel has finally arrived, so I'm waiting for is a warm, sunny day to tackle this one (I live in the Boston area). There is a lot of info floating around on this hack. I have a 2003 Boxster S. Can anyone point me to the most up-to-date instructions? I've read the sticky regarding this project, but there is a ton of year specific information. Also, does anyone have any good pictures of the 12V wire splice into the B7 fuse box? That is the only part of the project that is making me nervous (I've already done the OBC button hack, so I'm cool with taking off the instrument cluster and playing with those connections). Any help would be much appreciated. It would be great if non-cruise cars came with the wiring...and not the 4 yoke stalk. Thanks in advance for your help. One afterthought. Any part number recommendations for the 12V wire to run to the fuse box? Thanks.
  4. Thanks Loren....."Handbrake" was the only word I didn't try....I did try every configuration of emergency brak I could think of..... I'm embarrassed.....
  5. Good morning folks, I recently purchased a carbon fiber shift knob and emergency brake handle. I've used the search function to try to find directions to swap out the e-brake handle but have had no success.....Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
  6. I hadn't thought of that. I should also clarify that it only happens when I've shifted the care into second gear and begin to let out the clutch.....Does this make it more likely that it is a synchro issue?
  7. Hello all: I own an '03 Boxster S with approximately 25K miles....I purchased it as a used vehicle a few months ago. Had a PPI done and was given a clean bill of health. I have been having an occassional issue however. Once every 100 shifts or so, when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the transmission doesn't seem to engage all the way and I grind the gears a bit. It happens so infrequently that at first I passed it off as a sloppy shift. It tends to occur more often when the car is cold, but has happened when properly warmed. It only happens when shifting into second gear (either up or down). There is no noticible clutch slippage to speak of....Just this occassional grind. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks in advance for your help.
  8. Thanks for your help everyone. I've replaced the heated seat switch with a rocker switch. All seems to be working properly now.
  9. Thanks for all of your help. The internal light does not illuminate when the instrument panel lights are on. Nor are the internal lights switched on when I turn on the headlights. I've ordered a simple footwell rocker switch as used/described in the hack. I should have it tomorrow. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. In your opinion is there any danger in leaving the switch as is overnight?
  10. Thanks for the reply Rich....The heated seat switch does have the same "physical" configuration. I too am using the 3 center terminals.
  11. On a side note: Nick, I grew up in Greenwich. Right by exit 5 (on 95). I now live in the Boston area. I've been up here for about 16 years now.... I went to high school at St. Mary's. Graduated in '87....but hung out with a lot of Greenwich High kids.
  12. It does not turn off after I lock the car.....I put the car in the garage last night...locked her up....and it was on this morning. It could very well always do that and I just never noticed it. The speedometer (on the left), the odometer (in the middle) and the clock (on the right) all seem to be on all the time now. So to is the little red light in the switch that I installed. I'm more concerned about battery drain if I don't drive the car for a few days. I'd also be concerned if there is any potential for "serious" electrical damage. Thanks for your continued help on this.
  13. Hello folks. I own a 2003 "S". This weekend I installed the OBC Hack using a switch as opposed to a stalk. I used a Heated Seat switch (as I had one handy for some reason). Anyway, after a little bit of trouble shooting, I was able to get the OBC display to function properly. The only problem that I now have is that the computer stays on after I've shut the car down and removed the key from the ignition. All else seems to function properly with this one exception. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? My initial thought is that maybe the heated seat switch is not appropriate for this hack as it is a 2 stage switch. Otherwise, it might be a problem with my wiring. Any ideas would be truly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance for the troubleshooting help. Vince
  14. Is there anyone in the Boston, MA area that has done this hack and wouldn't mind walking a neophyte through it? Thanks
  15. Toolpants, Is the "Switch" hack covered in your DVD? I thought I saw in a thread that you have a single DVD now....yet the forum page is still showing a set of 3. I'd just like to make sure that I purchase the most recent version. Thanks again for your help.
  16. Anyone have any experience with this tool? http://www.durametric.com/ Does it perform all of the functions of the PST2? Thanks in advance for your replies.
  17. Hello folks, I've tried searching the forum prior to asking this question, so please forgive me if my inquiry is redundant. I just picked up a 2003 Boxster S. It currently has 2 stalks. I'd love to be able to activate the OBC so that the outside temperature is displayed. I'm not at all concerned about any other functionality that the OBC can/may provide. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what is required to make this happen? If my research is correct, I am assuming that it will take more than just turning on the OBC (as I've done in the past with earlier model Boxsters). I'm not averse to purchasing a new stalk or rocker switch if it isn't price prohibitive. I'd just really like to get the outside temperature working. Thanks in advance for all of your help.
  18. Thanks for the reply. You mentioned getting your car back from the "shop".....are you doing the swap yourself or is the shop doing this actually switcheroo? The reason that I ask is I was curious of your pricing included the cost of labor. I live in the North East and would likely have a shop perform this swap for me. A labor ball park comparison would help me know what to expect. The only nice thing about living in New England is that in about another month, I can send the car to a shop and forget about it until April....If I lived in a sunshine state, the anticipation would kill me. Thanks again.
  19. Hello all. I have a 98 Boxster with just over 40K miles. I am beginning to consider what my next "toy" will look like. I don't know if I want to spend the cash on a new "S"......I'm not wild about the Cayman as I love having the convertible....I would like more power however. I've read all of the commentary about the 3.4 conversion on this site (an others)....but I can't seem to remember what an estimated price for this conversion would be. I realize that there are several variables to consider (i.e. new engine vs used, DIY or swapped by a shop, etc...) Would one of you mind providing a range that I could expect to encounter were I to proceed with a swap? Thanks so much.
  20. Hi guys. I have a 98 Boxster that I am considering putting in aftermarket heated seats. (I'm thinking about these: http://www.heatedseatkits.com/). I've checked out Dennis' DIY guide, and while handy, I'm not in that league....The only problem is that I would like the seat switches to look stock. Today I picked up a Porsche heated seat switch for around $45. It has 5 connectors or plugs on the underside. Does anyone have a schematic for these connectors so that I can wire the aftermarket seat heater wires to the stock switch? Thanks in advance for your help.
  21. The hack only works on Boxster models whose trunks are controlled by mechanical levers as opposed to a push/pull switch. I can't remember the exact model year the change from mechanical lever to switch was made....but I think it was around 2001 or 2002. Essentially there is a small gap between the mechanical levers. Controlling the release cables to the front and rear is an "H" shaped cam....the H lays sideways where the crossbar to the H would be parallel to the door sill.....If you take a thin screwdriver and place it between the vertical bars of the "H" you can rotate that cam a few degrees (I believe clockwise). If sucessful, you will have moved the cam just enough that you can manually pull the latch to pop the trunk.
  22. Before I ask my question, I'd just like to say that these boards have been invaluable in helping me maintain my '98 Boxster. You may find it funny to learn that perhaps the most valuable insight that I gleaned was how to "jimmy" the trunk latch after having locked my keys in the trunk....Maybe not the most valuable piece of information from a $$ perspective, but certainly from a pride perspective...:-) While spring cleaning the interior of my car, I noticed what I considered an unusual amount of "hardware" under the seats for simply adjusting the backrest. While I don't have heated seats, I was curious to learn if these cars came with the heating units already installed in the seats. If you selected the heated seat option at the time of purchase, they would simply install the "switch" in the center console. The reason I ask this question is that Porsche has done something similar with the on board computer. If you want to pay for the option, they will turn it on (temp, trip odometer, etc...), but all cars come equipped with the computer. If this is the case, I'd be off to purchase the switch and try to install the unit myself. It is still chilly here in New England in the mornings.....and the heated seats work wonders for keeping an aging back comfortable after some strenuous exercise. Thanks in advance for your help. Happy Driving. Vince
  23. Good afternoon folks, As an independent consumer, I was wondering if there existed a way for one to reset their Check Engine Light, without bringing the car to a service center, thus no access to any computer equipment. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks Vince
  24. Would anyone mind posting the link to the 4 to 3 spoke steering wheel change instructions? Thanks in advance for your help. Vince On a side note, I recently purchased a '98 boxster. Does anyone know if I need to do anything inparticular to swap the shift knob? I get the feeling that I will need to purchase a knob boot for a '99 or later in order to install my Momo Eva 16 shift knob. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks again.
  25. Well the weekend has come and gone...Happy father's day to all. I was hoping for a little more help before making the plunge....but alas, none came. Now that I own the '98 boxster, I'd welcome commentary on any/all items that I should scrutinize. Thanks again in advance for your experienced insight. Regards, Vince
