  1. I posted earlier in the DIY section about a frustrating Litronic problem I am having. The lights refuse to ignite; they just flash and flash and flash and nothing. But, every so often they will surprise me and ignite. I guess any sort of consistent behavior might lead to a solution, huh? Ballasts? Ignitors? Who knows? With each light having its own ballast and ignitor, I would suspect that both sides having the exact problem (they both either ignite at the same instant...or they both do not) that the culprit might be "upstream" of the lights. So...does anyone have a headlight wiring diagram for an '01 Boxster? Or do you know where I can get one? Too, I understand (from studying the TSB's herein) that a Porsche dealership can diagnose the ballasts. True? Lastly, the original battery that was in the car died a few weeks ago and a new one was installed. Could there by any issue concerning the battery...or maybe the ignitors/ballasts not getting enough "juice" to do their jobs?
  2. Well, I don't know if this helps or not, but here are my experiences. I have an annoying door jamb creak that I cure--albeit temporarily--with a WD-40 coating. It's gross. I just open the door and spray it on both surfaces. But it doesn't creak for a good while. My clutch pedal also has a squeak that I cure with WD-40. It's hard to get to the source (even with the little red straw thingy), but it sure helps it and it lasts for weeks. That about covers it for the creaks and squeaks in my car. With the exception of the convertible roof frame. But that doesn't bother me--and I really wouldn't know what to do about it anyway. The door jamb creaking is by far the most aggravating to me. I would love to find a permanent solution (rubber stick-ons? what?). I agree with you that it'd be a really nice Porsche-customer care thing for the dealer to give the cars a complete lubricating when it's in for service.
  3. New suspicion. It may be something "upstream" from the ignitors/ballast (officially known as the Ignition Control Units and the Headlight Control Units). I say that because after two days of no headlights, I tried them tonight and...they worked. They illuminated together--which makes me discount the theory of separate ignitors coincidentally going on the fritz at the same time. All I did differently was to play with the switch some; I turned on the various parking and fog lights and pulled on the highbeam flasher a couple of times. Then (with engine running), I clicked the switch to "on" and the headlights flashed on. BTW, I looked at all the connectors as Loren suggested (thanks, Loren!) and they all appear to be in good order. So...any thoughts as to what switch or device that's between the headlight assembly and the on/off switch that can malfunction?
  4. I have an '01 Boxster with Litronic headlights...and there is a problem. Neither headlight illuminates properly. When switched on, they will flash intermittently and, then, illuminate. Or never illuminate at all. Any ideas? I called a dealer parts department guy who said it was indeed strange that both lights began behaving this way at the same time. While that is true, I now can tell that one "gives up trying" to illuminate while the other one continues to flash for a while. The parts guy suggested two parts that might be involved. One is termed an "Ignition Control Unit" and the other is a "Headlight Control Unit." Seems to me that the ignition unit might be the culprit. Any way to test this maddening problem to narrow it down? Any recommended source for these parts? Many, many thanks in advance for any discussion!
