  1. My 99 C4 seems to be invisibly leaking coolant. I first noticed about 2 weeks ago when the temp warning light started flashing just after 2 hard accelerations on 2 different days. So, check the manuals and here, phoned the dealer who said it was a coolant level problem so I checked it when it was cold and yep, the coolant was barely in the expansion tank. So, I ordered coolant and refilled the tank 50/50 on Saturday morning. Seemed fine all day even under hard acceleration. The temp guage is just about at the right side of the 8 while driving and while at lights it drifts to cover the left of the zero. I checked the coolant level this morning, Sun, and it's down at min again in just one day. I refilled it this morning, drove the car around 20 miles and now Sun eve, it's back at min again and may drop further as it cools tonight. So, I guess it's dealer time? Anything I should know? I placed newspaper under the engine today but saw no leaks at all. I noticed a lot of TSBs wrt cooling, anything obvious I should arm my self with before visiting the dealer? I have a non factory warranty on the car now so hopefully, it will cover this. My biggest question is the dealer says it serviced the car at 15k, I bought at 17k. Is this something they could have spotted at that time or does it just happen? Billy
  2. I just bought 17" mille 1's from tirerack with Blizzak LM22s on them and after 1k in the mn snow, I'm very happy with them. 17s are probably a better bet than 18s in winter. Total cost around 1600. The blizzaks appear to hav superior ice traction over the dunlops but are H rated so no speeding.
  3. Anyone know if it's possible or what it costs to install belt pretensioners in a 99C4? I had them replaced at my dealer recently (SRS light came on) and it was 600 bucks. Thanks
  4. I got a 6 yr, 72K mile third party warranty when I bought my 99 C4 from the dealer for 2500, 1600 for 2 years doesn't seem like a good value to me.
  5. Hi, I'm looking at getting winter tires. My choices are tirerack and Dunlop SP Winter Sports or Pirelli 240 Winters on 17" rims. I'm also wondering about simply getting Michelin Alpin Sport A/S tires on my existing 18" rims and using them the whole year round. They aren't as good as my Pirello Asymmetricos in Summer and won't be as good in hard winter as the Dunlops above but should be fine in almost all conditions and have much better tread life. I'm looking for opinions on the A/S compromise rather than dedicated summer/winter tires. My porsche dealers says the 911 is too torquey for the pilots which my pilot dealer says is bull. He has corvettes using the pilots with no problems. He also says thread life is significantly better using the A/S than dedicated tires, he claims 30K miles on Corvette, obviously depending on how hard you drive but 30K is a lot better than what I hear for my pirelli summers (10K ish) or Dunlop winters (10K). I got a quote of 1300 all in to mount the A/S on my 18's versus between 1600 and 1950 for a winter set (tirerack or dealer). The A/S isn't cheap but if they give 30K miles then they are worth it. Any ideas or experiences welcome.
